Porter and Fry is a very nice restuarant that has all the trappings to make for an excellent romatic evening out on the town. During our visit the place was about 1/3 full, very quiet, and the patrons were dressed like you would expect at Applebys or Ruby Tuesday and not an elegant fine dinning establishment. I know society has become casual, but when you are paying $120.00+ for cocktails, wine, and dinner for two, I would hope elegance would be a part of the experience.

The service was extremely slow mainly because the bartender was waiting on us (we had a very nice table by a window in the bar area) and she had a full bar. The kitchen was very slow too. I loved my food (duck & squash risotto) but my friend felt his chicken was way too small and not good enough to justify the price. The "Happy Hour" specials were good; fine beer and wines by the glass and great "little plates". It is very convenient to Orchestra Hall, which is why we went there, but we missed the first part of our concert (even though we allowed one and a half hours for dinner) because of the slow service :( I would go back and give it another try, but my friend said "Never again!"

Hostess placed us at high traffic table due to kitchen & entrance despite other available tables & our request to be placed elsewhere. She indicated one table we indicated was near at "scrubber" & we wouldn't like it then shortly there after placed a couple there who were obviously regulars (& were even waited on before us by same server!) Honest is best policy! Service picked up (as did traffic around us) but as a 2nd visit for wife's birthday, did nothing to make one wish to return.

Great Friday night deal on wine. The appetizers and bread are fantastic, the mains are excellent, but I'd skip dessert next time. Overall, highly recommended for a meal before an event at Orchestra Hall.

This may be a great option for room service when staying at the ivy but I wouldn't go back. Minneapolis has a great restaurant scene and this one just can't compete. We were seated in the basement (and it felt like the basement) in an oversized booth.
