  • "It has been a while and many countries since we have had a meal so well prepared. High quality ingredients are innovatively and expertly combined to delight the palate. Start with the North Carolina Tureen, not to be missed. Lamb tenderloin was fabulous, filet mignon great. The star of the meal was the coconut cake. Butter cream of the highest order beautifully staged on the plate. The staff is highly motivated and dedicated to making your experience memorable. We will be back!"

  • "We chose Port Land Grille after reading reviews online and scoping recommendations for special occasion places to eat. We are foodies and tend to eat at home because we're great cooks. We only go out if we can find a place that creates dishes that are better than ours. Port Land Grille fit the bill with wonderful tenderloin with a balsamic blue cheese glaze and perfect accompaniments. Their wine selections are lovely and their appetizers are wonderful. We'd definitely return!"

  • "I had a take out pork chop and the entree was great. I went in to dine with my family the next day and had great expectation... I had the scallop and my uncle had the grouper... The scallop was good (very flavorable, the seasoning is just right-- and the grill flavor is perfect. There were 5 jumbo scallops... So for a big person... You might not get full on it), but my sides (grits and collard) were not up to my expextations... The grits were full of butter killing any tastes that they may have; and the collard taste like collard i buy at the grocery store... Nothing extraordinary... My uncle grouper with some kinds of beans for the sides... His entree was decent... Overall... I like the pork chop the best..."

  • "Found this restaurant online, looking for a place to dine on our first night, that was close to our hotel. Boy, did we hit a homerun! This gem was tucked away in a corner of a large strip mall....a little hard to find. Once through the doors, it was a transforming experience. The ambiance was perfect for intimate dining. Our waiter, Bob, was the most friendly and professional waiter we have ever encountered. ( Southern N.C. charm ) His suggestions were dead on, all delivered with a witty sense of humor. The food was amazing!!....delicious and perfectly prepared.....served like a work of art. The wine suggestion was pared perfectly with dinner. Can't say enough....We hope to visit again when in town."

The food has a southern flair, but is otherwise a good steakhouse along with superior seafood. I recommend highly."

  • "We were celebrating a special occasion and were put in a room with a large party which was very loud. There were plenty of tables so we were perplexed at why they would seat us there. When you're spending $160 for dinner, you tend to have high expectations. We asked to be moved and they accomodated us. The food was excellent as always. Our parents had called ahead and requested that they buy us drinks, which never happened. The drinks were on our check. I just think it was an off-night for them, as this is a very quality restaurant."

  • "Sadly, my husband and I found just ok food at this restaurant. We tried the smoked salmon tartar, vichyssoise, and seared scallops with seafood risotto, spinach and a tomato sauce. There were no specials, and our waitress constantly suggested that we order more food, despite the already large portions. It was surprising to me that during the height of soft shelled crab season, those weren't on the menu. Also, one of the three fish entrees wasn't available. For real farm to table cooking, try Chef and the Farmer in Kinston. In Wilmington, there are other, better choices, including Catch on Market St., Brasserie du Soleil in the same outdoor mall as Portland Grill, or Bento Box in the Forum."

The steaks were very tough which was a surprise. They should not have been that tough for the price paid. Waiter was attentive."

  • "We had heard mixed reviews on this restaurant, but decided to try it anyway for my husband's 40th birthday. The hostess was awesome and very helpful, but the server was sub-par. The food is pricey so the mind set is that you're going to get a fabulous meal, but that is not the case. The food was not impressive. There are far better restaurants in the area and for less money along with much better service. We had a party of 8 and the review is across the board. We all had different things and no one was impressed. We will not return. "

  • "We decided to have mothers birthday here for the quiet atmosphere. It was fine and the food was just ok. I ordered the Italian salad and it was warm. The lobster sliders were disappointing and dry. We also delivered a cake for the celebration and no one remembered to bring it to the table. The waiters tried to give us menus for desert. The experience was disappointing in tes if the food and the prices and the attention to detail. "

  • "This was our second dinner at Port Land Grille, about two years apart, on infrequent visits to Wilmington. Both times we had excellent, flavorful meals, beautifully presented and enjoyed a wonderful array of wine selections; even the wines by the glass are worthwhile. It's a lively place with a small, seemingly always crowded bar. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. This restaurant is worth going out of one's way for."

  • "The ambiance is lovely. The service was good. The shrimp were frozen and tough. The crab was overcooked, extremely salty, and over seasoned. The meatballs were dry, over cooked, and uninspired. The wine was very poor, even after we sent it back and tried something else. In short, the meal was Inedible."

  • "My son and I had dinner here and the ambience is very nice. All the wait staff where white jackets and lots of candle light. The food was just ok, I had halibut and he had duck and we shared a crab mac and cheese app. and a oreo cheesecake for dessert. Everything we had was good, just average, nothing to make it memorable. We have had some amazing meals lately at other restaurants and this one just didn't add up. I think you could get the same thing elsewhere for less money."

  • "Family from VA & MI were visiting Wilmington wondering where to have dinner on our last night together...something special. We have already done the waterfront thing and weren't impressed. Enter our Open Table Android App! Everything was there in print, location, menu, etc. to make an intelligent decision so we loaded up the car. Just before arriving, we noted that it was located in a shopping center...oh, damn! Dutifully following our GPS, we arrived at a private resort night spot on the very back of the center that could not have been any more inviting. our greeting was warm, the food impeccable, our wait-staff the best ever and do I ever hate what those desserts did to our collective BMI readings! It's a five-star restaurant! GO!"

  • "Dining on a Wednesday evening, we were disappointed to be told after we had studied the menu that several of the fish items were not available. The reason given by the waitress was that they had had a very busy weekend previously. At the very least, the restaurant should make sure that patrons are told immediately what is no longer available. Best case scenario would be that they restock items on a more regular basis. We were certainly able to purchase swordfish from the local fish market the next day so it was certainly available."

  • "Anne is the owner of this long time Wilmington restaurant. I went with my two teenage grandchildren becasue of the Open Table site. It was not a good experience. I took the time the next morning to write to the owner about what I considered a poor experience and she immediately called to apologize and to offer me either a gift certificate or a generous credit. I was charmed and delighted. I will return. The restaurant was very busy and it was obvious that many of the guests at the restaurant were locals and dined there often. I felt our experience was an aberration and am more than willing to give them another chance, expecially after the classy response of the owner."

  • "The setting was upscale with lovely landscaping and fountains set amidst an upscale shopping center. In making reservations on open table for a week night, we wanted a slightly later time by 15 min. ; however, open table came back indicating none were available. Yet, upon our arrival and stay the restaurant was practically empty. Overall, the food was good, particularly the Mac and cheese dish which was outstanding, but nothing else stands out in our minds after the fact. Despite bread and butter plates with butter servers being on the table thus indicating bread would be served, we had to ask for it. Staff was attentive---sometimes just a tad too eager to remove dishes before we were through "
