Diner Reviews
  • "We dined at Porcini's for the first time last week. I ordered the shrimp risotto and my wife had the special that evening which was veal osso buco, one of our favorites. The risotto had a slight tang of lemon which I really enjoyed and the shrimp were large and perfectly prepared. The Osso buco was absolutely delicious. We will definitely go back to Porcini's when we visit Louisville again."

  • "We have dined at Porcini but this trip as disappointing. They were not extremely busy but it was noisy and the service was extremely close. Good was excellent, as always but pricey."

  • "We dined recently at Porcini's with some out of town guests. We have been there before and thought it was worth a return visit. Our guests loved it! The restaurant is an attractive setting. The staff was excellent - friendly, professional, efficient. The food was absolutely delicious! We will return!"

  • "Celebrated by birthday with family... nothing on the menu that did not sound fabulous. Each of us ordered something different and we were delighted."

  • "We really enjoyed our dinner at Porcini's for our 2nd anniversary. The service was top notch and the food even better. Our waiter went out of his way to get my husband the ability to try something new , even though it wasn't part of his meal. We will definetly be back. The one regret we have is that we chose one of the specials (snapper and scallops). Though the meal was very good, we did not feel the price ($40+) was equal to what we received . Our mistake for not asking how much the special was, but never dreaming it would be the highest priced meal offered that night. Had we known, we most likely would have chosen the filet or another seafood dish that wasn't so pricey. Overall, excellent experience and would highly recommend."

  • "This was the 4th year that my colleagues and I met for dinner at Porcini's while visiting Louisville. Once again, the service and food was excellent. Great wine selection and reasonably priced. I made my reservations on OpenTable and was then able to forward to the rest of my party. Thanks for a great evening Porcini's."

  • "The food was good and was so the service. The restaurant was overbooked with crowded tables. My party was of two guests, and before we knew it, we got surrounded by large parties of six, total 12 people, almost elbow to elbow. I felt as if I was seated at the next table, because I had two strangers, one on my left and one on my right at the next table. The restaurant brought out round table tops and squeezed large parties into areas that were too small. I found myself always have to move, bend over, adjust my chair, lean either in or out to allow the bus boy, waitstaff, host, and other guests to move about the restaurant. I finally gave up and relocated my chair to another side of the four top table, still, it was awkward."

  • "First time dining at Porcini's for three of the four in our group. Service was impeccable as was the food. We will be back - hopefully soon!"

  • "We had a memorable evening at Porcini. The food was fantastic and it was just right for the momentous occasion we were celebrating (a family reunion, of sorts, after 45 years!)."

  • "This was my first visit to Porcini's. The service was impeccable, the ambiance wonderful, and the food was fantastic, especially the artichoke appetizer. However, the lamb chops that I ordered medium rare to medium came to the table rare. I ate the first one but just couldn't eat the second one, even though it was delicious. The waiter took it back to the kitchen for more cooking and brought it back, along with the chef's apology. I ate most of the second chop, but it was still grossly undercooked. I realize the chops were quite thick and it's better to undercook them than overcook them, so I understand the dilemma. I just wish it could have been closer to medium rare. The heavenly dessert helped make up for it, though. I will be back."

  • "We ate at Porcini's during he 502 Restaurant Week promotion, which meant that our 3-course meals cost $25.10 each. My wife and I each had the beef filet, which was well prepared, but a bit on the small side, as was the accompanying salad. Service was attentive, but it was nearly 45 minutes after we had ordered before our entrees arrived. To be fair, the restaurant was full when we arrived on time for our 7:00 PM reservation, but the crowd had thinned out considerably by 7:30. Still and all, we enjoyed our meals, and we will likely return at some future date, perhaps for next year's 502 Restaurant Week promotion.."

  • "They only prepare it on Thursday and luckily that was the day we dined there. I was prepared to order off the 502 week menu (which was excellent) when our waiter told us "I wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't tell you about our Thursday special." I really appreciated his recommendation. It was fantastic as was the beet salad. Great meal, fabulous service and a real authentic Italian vibe. I highly recommend Porcini's."

  • "We went for both 502 restaurant week as well as my wife birthday. Was overall a great experience. They were obviously very busy but our server was very attentive. Wine list had a very good variety. The food was good but not as good as I've had before there. The plates were sloppily put together and lacked the finesse we we reused to seeing out of this kitchen. But the food was still quite tasty."

  • "Being from NY, I often find it hard to find a good Italian place outside my hometown. This place was great! I fully enjoyed my meal, the service and the atmosphere. I would highly recommend this restaurant and I will definitely be returning my next visit to Louisville!"

  • "My wife and i visited for Valentines Day 2014. We went on Saturday, the 15th. The server was attentive, but not overly so. He made suggestions for our meals, we took them, and don't regret them. Seabass and lobster tail. Fantastic. Perfect size portion, as we had an appetizer (calimari - the clam sauce was delicious). Which of course meant we had room for dessert. Had a small dish of various sweets, like chocolate covered strawberries, caramels, and something involving Amaretto, which was my favorite. When I didn't care for the caramels as much, the waiter brought us a few more strawberries and Amaretto sweets. The experience was simply wonderful."

  • "Food was great! I put a note in the reservation because my wife and I were celebrating our 4th anniversary and the hostess sat us in the more romantic section of the restaurant. The bar area can be a little loud but we were eating at 830 on a Saturday and it wasn't bad enough to upset us. Service was great and it is in a nice little neighborhood."

  • "We dined here for Valentine's Day and it was the perfect spot. The ambience was incredible. Dimly lit with candles, but not so dark we couldn't see our food or each other; incredibly romantic. It was packed of course but the layout was good and it still felt intimate and quiet. My girlfriend's vegetarian and the pasta dishes were easily able to accommodate her diet, though the appetizers weren't quite so. It was a partial menu bc of the holiday, which we weren't aware of prior. We both ordered pasta and white wines and were thrilled with our choices. The only thing that we felt could've made our experience better was being able to order off the full menu. However, we both agreed that we'll definitely be back to give it a try."

  • "Porcini's offers a really romantic and exceptional dining experience. There are a nice variety of menu options. I highly recommend the gnocchi salsiccia, italian dumplings, stuffed with a multi-cheese blend, with spicy sausage in a delicious tomato sauce. The yukon gold mashed potatoes are, no exaggeration, incredible. The appetizer we ordered was a fried goat cheese bruschetta, which was great. The atmosphere is excellent if you like a lively environment, but there is also a quieter section, which I prefer, and which I requested in my reservation. The staff are super attentive and friendly. The prices are quite reasonable, especially considering the high quality of the food."

  • "My wife and I went to Procini to celebrate her birthday (and I mentioned that to our waiter before ordering). We had a wonderful time. Our dinners were among the best we've ever had, and the recommended wine was perfect. We found the restaurant to be cozy, and even though it filled while we were there, it never got loud. To top things off, our waiter brought a complimentary Italian Cream Cake desert, with a lit candle and Happy Birthday written on the platter - In Chocolate! The perfect ending to a good time."

  • "Always a vibrant, but low light elegant place to have dinner. We shared a delicious spinach salad and the special chicken/cheese stuffed ravioli. The split was rather small but then we shared the vanilla crème brulee and it topped us off!! The other couple had a shrimp dish and a pasta dish and loved them. Very nice!"

  • "We dined early on New Year's Eve, the restaurant was already full. Service was great, and we were not rushed. Our meals were excellent! I had salmon, my husband had chicken, and our daughter had the vegiterian pasta. Porcini is a neighborhood jem! We have many special occasion dinners there and recommend it often. sharon Stovall"

  • "Let me preface this with the fact I worked in restaurants through college and I cook pretty well. We went to Porcini due to the recent Excellent review in the paper. I am not sure how much they paid the Courier reviewer on the side, but this place is nowhere near Excellent. Perhaps they were laying back on the laurels of their most recent review. The place was 1/2 empty when we arrived so it could not be blamed for being overcrowded. The food was ok at best, but took forever to arrive. The service was sad. The server kept coming back asking how bad the food was?!. She meant it as a joke so I just thought she was new. She then bragged she had been there for 20 years. Time to move on Spend your money elsewhere."
