Diner Reviews
  • "Great food all homemade paras or most very good would definitely return during week food great very small and noisy but didn't mind"

  • "My family& I went to Porcini on the fly last Saturday. My father uses a wheelchair & though a bit challenging to get past the front door as there was a step, the owner made room through the restaurant for his chair. I order the cannelloni&it was very tasty and perfectly sauced. For $21 however, I would expect a small side salad and basket of bread. My dad order the angolloti and the chef was kind enough to indulge our request for a marinera instead of the pecorino cream sauce. Because of the small dining space, noise can be an issue. It was hard to hear members at the other side of the table, St times. All in all, you'll find a good time at Porcini."

  • "But the noise was so loud, that it took away from the positive experience of the food"

  • "My husband and I consider Porcinis to be the best dining experience we're had in the US (and we're natives!) We will revisit it the next time we're in Philadelphia. The food was absolutely fresh, exquisitely prepared and delicious. The atmosphere was amazingly inviting. The chef and staff were so friendly that it led to conversations among the patrons. Thank you, Porcinis, for a memorable experience."

  • "If your in the mood for Italian you must go! It's all about the experience. It looks like it is someone's dining room at their house. Easily the best Italian place on Philly! Food is all hand rolled pasta."
    Dined on 8/22/2014
  • "the food is outstanding but be prepared for a bustling, noisy experience if it is a crowded night. The space is intimate and thus noisy when full."

  • "I love this place. I have been going for years and never had a bad meal. David and Steve are great. They treat you like family."

  • "My wife and I ate here last Saturday before seeing a comedy club show at Helium (i.e. Kevin Nealon from SNL, very funny). The dinner/show was part of a “25” dates/year that I promised my wife for our 25th wedding anniversary. As part of one these dates, this restaurant was WONDERFUL! I have eaten at other Italian restaurants in the city and South Philly and this rivals them all. Small, quaint, not pretentious and just the right amount of ambience and food! I know that some have said that it gets “noisy”, which based on its size, I am sure. However, when we went, it was perfect! I appreciated the attention from all the staff, owner/chef, etc.. and I surely will be returning in the future! Thanks for a great night!"

  • "Food absolutely delicious! Owner very gregarious to his customers making you feel glad you chose his restaurant. Did not feel rushed at all during the whole evening. Not particularly appealing in the decor department, but other aspects of the dining experience made up for that!"
    Dined on 8/8/2014
  • "This place was absolutely amazing but the dining room is fairly small so make sure to make a reservation if you have a group of 4+. The guy that ran the floor was very friendly and the food was really unique and delicious! Great place!"
    Dined on 8/8/2014
  • "Porcini's is in a great location in the city and has terrific food. But the noise level - it is small ( approx 35 diners in one room) is almost impossible to hear the conversation with the person directly across from you. You might think it would be a good place to have an intimate, maybe even romantic dinner but think again. If you like loud, energetic this might be the place for you."

  • "Best garlic bread you will ever have! Adorable neighborhood Italian spot!"
    Dined on 8/1/2014
  • "I ordered the chicken dish - perfection in a tasty tomato sauce. My companion ordered gnocchi. Now this dish was way over the top in taste. The food was so outstanding that my companion hosted a pre-theater group dinner the next evening."

  • "Great spot for delicious, casual meal in Rittenhouse area. BYO policy makes this very affordable."
    Dined on 7/31/2014
  • "Very energetic atmosphere; welcoming staff; excellent menu and specials; A high end neighborhood restaurant."
    Dined on 7/25/2014
  • "The food was good but the noise level made it impossible to have a conversation and there were so many tables that they were practically on top of each other. Our reservation was a 7:30 but we did not get seated until around 8:00."
    Dined on 7/19/2014
  • "The tables are close, close close. And you can eavesdrop on most conversations. But the food is delicious. We tried 3 different appetizers (yum for the artichokes), 4 different entrees and all 3 desserts - and each was excellent. You feel as if you're eating food made in someone's home. It's byob as well - so reasonable for dining near Rittenhouse Square. We had a lovely time :)"

  • "We had another wonderful meal at Porcini. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu, and the evening specials are always worth it. We go there whenever we are in town. A great little restaurant."

  • "The home-made pastas are outstanding in this restaurant."
    Dined on 7/5/2014
  • "We knew we were in for a good meal when we were brought a small dish of fresh ricotta cheese with extra-virgin olive oil to go with the basket of crusty bread. Superb! The fresh pasta was delicious as were the short ribs. Our only disappointment was that we got full too fast and couldn't eat more! Even though we aren't locals, we will make the trip for the food."

  • "The food at Porcini's is superb on every visit. We picked Porcini's over the Four Seasons to celebrate our 20th Anniversary!"
    Dined on 6/14/2014
  • "After not having been back for a few years thought we'd give it a try again - however, the same level of overbooking reservations and making people wait. The food not much to say, was fine. The service was pretty iffy - over familiar on the one hand and somewhat aloof yet arrogant on the other - will wait another few years before going back again."

  • "The chef Steve is the best and David keep the front dining room fun."
    Dined on 6/12/2014
  • "The food was delicious - we had the asparagus appetizer, and the costine di manzo (beef) and cannelloni for entrees. It was a Monday night, so not busy- just us and one other table. The server was passionate about the food, but not pushy. The restaurant is not on the main drag, so probably overlooked by a lot of people - but the food is definitely worth walking an extra block or two! This was a great find, and I would suggest it to friends."

  • "The scallops were amazing, pasta so tender ~ I love the food and somehow, I find the dishes even tastier each time I dine there."

  • "Great food and great service in a wonderfully often cramped and noisy room. Love it (or don't - more room for the rest of us)."
    Dined on 5/23/2014
  • "Porcini's is everything a BYOB is suppose to be: intimate, congenial, and consistent with excellent food and service. It's a go-to place I love when I have a guest I wish to share a wonderful dining experience."
    Dined on 5/13/2014
  • "Had to bring my own wine....did not know this ahead of time"
    Dined on 5/10/2014
  • "Food was nothing to write home about. The shrimp appetizer was pretty sad, actually. My friends both had the chicken milanese and that was pretty sad too. Three small cutlets on a plate with capers. That's it. And then a random side plate of spaghetti in red sauce. No one ever offered to open our second bottle of wine, and no one asked if we wanted dessert. The place is entirely too small with one too many table shoved in. If we had had a fourth person eating with us, she wouldn't have been able to sit at our table because of the table next to us being too close. The two people sitting behind us on numerous occasions elbowed us in the back. WAY overpriced for the experienced. Do yourself a favor, go to Melograno down the street."
    Dined on 5/10/2014
  • "Never going back. Not worth the money, had to borrow salt n pepper shakers from another table, they had I.phone playing music thru some little speakers right over our head, too small. Service was nit that great. .."

  • "Open, warm hospitality, but not a great dining spot for vegetarians."
    Dined on 4/30/2014
  • "No doubt it is loud and crowded, but that just makes for a more intimate experience. You sit very close to your dining companion and no one else can hear what you are saying. Of course the food is always excellent. Overall it is an experience that may not fit every occasion, but no one restaurant is. This is a go-to place for a great night out."
    Dined on 4/25/2014
  • "It's hard to find a more authentic Italian meal. A small BYOB with a great ambiance, great service and does not rush you out the door; the true Italian dining experience. The host was genuine in his appreciation and conversation. It's the type of neighborhood restaurant where you can see yourself become a regular almost instantly."
    Dined on 4/23/2014
  • "We live in the neighborhood and eat at Porcini's often. The food is always good but tonight it was outstanding! My friend ordered the sea bass special and I ordered the mussels special both were excellent. We hardly ever order dessert but this evening we had a canoli that had the crunchiest, tastiest shell ever! The inside was good but the shell, wow. This is not a dessert Porcini's has had in the past so we had to tell the owner how much we loved it. The staff ALWAYS makes you feel welcomed! "
    Dined on 4/19/2014
  • "Small inside but the service and food was great! I would go back again"
    Dined on 4/18/2014
  • "Porcini is a very small Phily BYOB. When the restuarant is full it feels a little claustrophobic. However, the food is delicious and the staff is friendly. The service was great. I would definitely recommend Porcini."
