Dinner at Porcini is always a great experience. The creative and cooked-to-order entrees together with appetizers and salads equally well-prepared (not to mention portions which themselves are just right and never overwhelming) make for, as the over-used expression goes, "fine dining." Add to that the grand welcome of two of the happiest characters in the restaurant business, and the evening meal can be just plain fun.

Porcini restaurant serves up some great Italian food in a small environment. If you don't mind being squished into a living room with 30 other diners then this place is well worth visiting. Be sure to save room for dessert!

Porcini was terrific, loaded with personality. Both the host and server were energetic and bantered with each other and customers in a friendly manner. It was like having dinner at a good friend's house in Philadelphia. There is no wine list as the restaurant is BYOB, which we found a refreshing concept, not being from Pennsylvania. Both of us had pasta dishes and they were excellent. We imagine that everything on the menu is good. If we lived here we would dine at Porcini often.

We went to Porcini on a recommendation from a coworker, an I'm glad we did! There were three of us in town for a conference. We were all tired and didn't feel like waiting for our reservation time so took a chance and called for an earlier one. The person was so friendly and helpful on the other line telling us to come ahead and they would accommodate. But not being familiar with the restaurant we didn't know that it was BYOB. The waitress even accommodated us with a glass of red wine left over from another customers bottle! The appetizer that I had was delicious! My coworkers enjoyed their entrees also. Porcini is a restaurant that I'll remember and go to if I'm ever in Phili again!

Don't come here for a quiet conversation with your editor to talk about your recently published book (just for instance). It's a small space, and noisy. And everything that happens in the kitchen is clearly audible in the tiny dining room. (That incessant pounding? That's your veal marsala). But the food is amazing, the service is outstanding, and the owners treat you like family. It's like eating at mom's (if mom was gunning for a Michelin star).

Our reservation was 8:30 PM, we showed up around 8:25 and weren't seated until 9. After being seated, it took 5 minutes for the waitress to come over to uncork our wine and then she threw away the cork w/o asking so we couldn't even take the unfinished bottle home. The couple next to us were both seated and ordered after us, but received their meals approx 15/20 minutes before ours. Lastly, the waitress never brought us 1 of the sides we orderd, never checked in with us while we were eating to see how our meal was and therefore never gave us the opportunity to let her know that she had forgotten our order. Despite all of this, the owner did not provide any complimentary offerings nor did he ever come over to check in on our experience.

We were very surprised to find out how long the restaurant has been open. The food was very, very good and there were many items on the menu I would have been happy to order. I also appreciated their willingness to make an appetizer-sized portion of one of the pasta entrees (a very good choice by the way).

Porcini is our absolute favorite local restaurant and we are hoping to become regulars! We love bringing out of town guests here to experience the intimate setting as the restaurant is located in a very small row house with only 10 tables. And the good is the best Italian we've had in the city. I love when we get a chance to go here! It can get fully booked with long waits so I would recommend always having a reservation.

My family& I went to Porcini on the fly last Saturday. My father uses a wheelchair & though a bit challenging to get past the front door as there was a step, the owner made room through the restaurant for his chair. I order the cannelloni&it was very tasty and perfectly sauced. For $21 however, I would expect a small side salad and basket of bread. My dad order the angolloti and the chef was kind enough to indulge our request for a marinera instead of the pecorino cream sauce. Because of the small dining space, noise can be an issue. It was hard to hear members at the other side of the table, St times. All in all, you'll find a good time at Porcini.

My husband and I consider Porcinis to be the best dining experience we're had in the US (and we're natives!) We will revisit it the next time we're in Philadelphia. My wife and I ate here last Saturday before seeing a comedy club show at Helium (i.e. Kevin Nealon from SNL, very funny). The dinner/show was part of a “25” dates/year that I promised my wife for our 25th wedding anniversary. As part of one these dates, this restaurant was WONDERFUL! I have eaten at other Italian restaurants in the city and South Philly and this rivals them all. Small, quaint, not pretentious and just the right amount of ambience and food! I know that some have said that it gets “noisy”, which based on its size, I am sure. However, when we went, it was perfect! I appreciated the attention from all the staff, owner/chef, etc.. and I surely will be returning in the future! Thanks for a great night!

Porcini's is in a great location in the city and has terrific food. But the noise level - it is small ( approx 35 diners in one room) is almost impossible to hear the conversation with the person directly across from you. You might think it would be a good place to have an intimate, maybe even romantic dinner but think again. If you like loud, energetic this might be the place for you.
