  • "My wife and I ate here last Saturday before seeing a comedy club show at Helium (i.e. Kevin Nealon from SNL, very funny). The dinner/show was part of a “25” dates/year that I promised my wife for our 25th wedding anniversary. As part of one these dates, this restaurant was WONDERFUL! I have eaten at other Italian restaurants in the city and South Philly and this rivals them all. Small, quaint, not pretentious and just the right amount of ambience and food! I know that some have said that it gets “noisy”, which based on its size, I am sure. However, when we went, it was perfect! I appreciated the attention from all the staff, owner/chef, etc.. and I surely will be returning in the future! Thanks for a great night!"

But the noise level - it is small ( approx 35 diners in one room) is almost impossible to hear the conversation with the person directly across from you. You might think it would be a good place to have an intimate, maybe even romantic dinner but think again. If you like loud, energetic this might be the place for you."

We tried 3 different appetizers (yum for the artichokes), 4 different entrees and all 3 desserts - and each was excellent. You feel as if you're eating food made in someone's home. It's byob as well - so reasonable for dining near Rittenhouse Square. We had a lovely time :)"

  • "We knew we were in for a good meal when we were brought a small dish of fresh ricotta cheese with extra-virgin olive oil to go with the basket of crusty bread. Superb! The fresh pasta was delicious as were the short ribs. Our only disappointment was that we got full too fast and couldn't eat more! Even though we aren't locals, we will make the trip for the food."

  • "The food was delicious - we had the asparagus appetizer, and the costine di manzo (beef) and cannelloni for entrees. It was a Monday night, so not busy- just us and one other table. The server was passionate about the food, but not pushy. The restaurant is not on the main drag, so probably overlooked by a lot of people - but the food is definitely worth walking an extra block or two! This was a great find, and I would suggest it to friends."

  • "Food was nothing to write home about. The shrimp appetizer was pretty sad, actually. My friends both had the chicken milanese and that was pretty sad too. Three small cutlets on a plate with capers. That's it. And then a random side plate of spaghetti in red sauce. No one ever offered to open our second bottle of wine, and no one asked if we wanted dessert. The place is entirely too small with one too many table shoved in. If we had had a fourth person eating with us, she wouldn't have been able to sit at our table because of the table next to us being too close. The two people sitting behind us on numerous occasions elbowed us in the back. WAY overpriced for the experienced. Do yourself a favor, go to Melograno down the street."

  • "We live in the neighborhood and eat at Porcini's often. The food is always good but tonight it was outstanding! My friend ordered the sea bass special and I ordered the mussels special both were excellent. We hardly ever order dessert but this evening we had a canoli that had the crunchiest, tastiest shell ever! The inside was good but the shell, wow. This is not a dessert Porcini's has had in the past so we had to tell the owner how much we loved it. The staff ALWAYS makes you feel welcomed! "

  • "The restaurant was well-decorated, but very tiny, crowded and SO VERY LOUD. There was a relaxed, semi-casual feel and everyone was very informal. We ordered the assagio hot and cold appetizer sampler, which was delicious. We ordered the beef short ribs over risotto, which we asked if it had bones and the server said yes but it is very tender so it would not be a problem, however there were no bones in this dish. This dish was very tasty and well-prepared (and huge!) We also ordered gnocchi with Italian sausage medallions. The gnocchi tasted like it may have been store bought frozen, and the sausage was a bit too salty, but the sauce was great. The service was very slow but it was difficult to navigate in such a crowded place."

  • "What a mess! The maitre 'd didn't even know that we had reservations. We were seated across from a table of 5 very loud girls, one of whom was sitting in the aisle, less than 4 inches from one of our party, making the aisle almost impassable. My friend had peoples' butts in her face through the entire meal as they squeezed through the aisle. My short ribs were full of shards of sharp bones that I had to keep trying to remove from my mouth discreetly. But the kicker was the noise level, which was louder than any restaurant we've ever been in, EVER. We skipped dessert so that we could get outside and get away from the almost-screaming noise. Decent food, but how can we go back to such a mess of a place? Maybe on a weekday it's quieter."

  • "Porcini. Simply divine. You will be in close quarters but once you get used to it and have a bite of the food, you will be transported to another world. The food was outstanding! We ordered garlic bread and you would think, what's the big deal? Try it, you won't be sorry. The fresh bread was slightly grilled and had the perfect blend of garlic, cheese and olive oil. I ordered a special the night we dined that had the Bolognese on it, and it was remarkable. Not too heavy and the perfect flavor, right amount of meat. I plan to return to try the Fettuccine Bolognese. My husband had the Chicken Milanese and it was fantastic. So flavorful and perfectly presented. Make a reservation if you plan to go, it was packed. Worth the trip!"
