Diner Reviews
  • "Wonderful dinner. Food was absolutely fabulous. We will not return to SawGrass with returning to Poppy's Italiano. Also, very reasonably priced. You don't want to miss it! Enjoy!"

  • "Excellent place for good food, good service and comfortable settings"

  • "Salad was very fresh. I love fresh salad and not preproceesed type that most places serve from a bag. Bread was great and waitress was very nice. My only problem was my spaghetti with oil and garlic had way to much oil. I actually filled up entire dish with all the oil I strained out. If the manager can use this feed back and correct amount of olive oil or perhaps put a little in and customer can get more, then it would be near perfect. my wife had a different meal and enjoyed it very much. We actually went back the next day."

  • "Arrived on time and was told they gave our table away to a walk-in, had to wait 20 minutes. My fish was way over cooked. It was the most expensive item on the menu. My wife.....strangest saltimbocca she has ever had, but tasty."

  • "This was our second dining experience at Poppy's - and both were disappointing. At the one referred to in your email, we ordered pasta fagioli soup which turned out to be decent navy bean soup - but no pasta. We also ordered veal piccata and shrimp scampi. The veal was tender and plentiful, but the lemon sauce was much too heavy - more like a gravy. The shrimp (Mayport) were excellent, but the pasta had too little garlic, which is an essential ingredient for scampi, and the sauce was too gravy like."

  • " Friends were extremely disappointed food; risotto looked & tasted like cottage cheese. Chick Marsala -oily & Alfredo - floury. Parm was overly deep fried. The pasta w/olive oil was floating in garlic & oil. The basic Italian food is ok. Majority of food is tasteless. Raw not roasted garlic is used in a lot of dishes. Garlic bread - too much red pepper & RAW garlic. 3 different occasions we have taken new neighbors to Poppy's & the people didn't like the food & wouldn't eat here again. Previously, every wk 2 other couples & us would eat here. The other 2 couples don't here b/c of the bland food. He has lost 2 regular customers & 3 potential customers b/c of the above. Pls this review & make the necessary corrections."

  • "Coming from New York to Jacksonville is quite an adjustment. After living here for 10 years I have finally found an Italian restaurant that reminds me of the GREAT food back home. You will not be disappointed trust me."

  • "Moving to Jacksonville from the north I have eaten in many good Italian restaurants and Poppy's fits into this category."

  • "We have had great experiences at Poppys which is why we went back. Saturday was very slow. We waited about 45 minutes for our food and my fish was overcooked. "

  • "The former Santioni's space finally has a better than worthy replacement. Traditional menu which is fine with us. We are happy with every meal here. The garlic bread is outstanding and comes hot out of the oven! They have made the space very peasant."
    Dined on 5/16/2014
  • "We had a good meal occasion here. Waited 15 minutes past our reservation time but fine with that as it is not a huge place. Lots of locals it seems frequent. No bar. Atmosphere and decor are decidedly strip center, older crowd, family style digs. I love garlic but the bread soaked in butter and garlic actually made me ill after the meal. Next time will order the plain bread which they offer. Pasta dishes, salads and our server were all above board and the menu had a nice variety as well. You do need dressers here. Would return if in area."

  • "This restaurant has wonderful food and service but they try to fit so many tables that you almost eat together with the table next to you. We have been there for lunch and dinner and the food has always been great. "

  • "We eat at Poppy's each time we visit the Ponte Vedra Beach area. The food is great and plentiful, and the prices are reasonable. We recommend this restaurant highly!"

  • "Food was better than the first time we came. First time wasn't bad but this time it just tasted better. Need all pastas homemade including tortellini"

  • "We ate here with our two teenage sons The quality of the food matched the quantity and our server was fabulous If we are back in ponte Vedra we will make a point to dine here again!"

  • "4 of us had dinner at Poppy's on Saturday. We were early for our reservation but were seated immediately. Each of us had a different dinner and all were delicious, served piping hot, and let's just say that no one would leave there hungry!!! We will definitely be back!"
    Dined on 3/22/2014
  • "Some of the best Italian, we've ever had. Don't let the strip mall presence put you off. Inside is a family decor with some of the finest Italian food imaginable at 1/2 the price of one of the Italian restaurants with more impressive decor and location."
    Dined on 3/16/2014
  • "Excellent Italian food with awesome service. One of our favorites."
    Dined on 3/8/2014
  • "Lasagne was the best. All 5 of us enjoyed an excellent meal."

  • "The garlic bread and oil wasw fabulous, my wife wanted to take some home with us. The setting was quiet and casual, and the food was exceptional."

  • "My wife & I enjoyed it. I had the shrimp & scallops with fetticuinne sauce with a hint of marinara. It was great! Service was good and the reservation through Open Table could not have been easier. All the staff was very pleasant."

  • "Always and in all ways excellent.....from the moment we enter and up until the moment we leave we feel as though we are special. What a wonderful group of people...food, service, wine choices so GOOD...definitely love the ciabatta...only disappointment is that it is not geographically located to us...nonetheless it is well worth the drive"

  • "Our meals were ok. My angel hair pasta very light on the sauce, and maybe a little overdone. Other three meals were good. Stephano was our server- exceptional."

  • "Poppy's does not disappoint and has quickly become one of our "go-to" places for dining out when we're craving excellent Italian food. The staff is always friendly and accommodating and the variety is such that you'll always hit on something that appeals to you. If there was one small criticism, it's that we have had trouble the last two times in getting the bottle of wine we wanted. It's on the wine list but out of stock. Not a huge problem, but can be a bit of a letdown when you've decided on something and then can't have it. No matter - we'll be back!"
    Dined on 2/8/2014
  • "Our 1st time there brought visiting couple, unusual event, everyone had a different dish, and all raved over the tasty and quanity of great food!"
    Dined on 1/28/2014
  • "I discovered Poppy's by accident. The food was delicious and the service great. I've been three times in the past several months. I say it was quiet because we ate at odd times. Lunch and a late dinner. The server told us dinner is very busy with waiting times of 45 minutes. I would recommend getting a reservation."
    Dined on 1/26/2014
  • "This was our first time at Poppy's and we'd certainly go again. Unbeknownst to us, they had an early bird special. If you order before 5:30, they have a two-page portion of their menu available at lower prices and including a glass of wine. What a deal! The food and servers were all excellent. Kudos to Helen, our server."

  • "Since Poppy's redecorated and cleaned up its act, it is a great place to go."
    Dined on 1/25/2014
  • "We had a 6:45 reservation ended up being seated at 7. Menu is not progressive, but offers the usual standards that are well-prepared. How can you have no fresh parsley? Server told me spumoni had lime ice cream, so she obviously has never tried it or is misinformed. Caters to an older clientele."
    Dined on 1/25/2014
  • "I was surprised at the quality of the food. My husband had the veal Parmesan, and I had the veal franchese. Both of us enjoyed our meal, with a good bottle of wine at a fair price. Somewhat of an older crowd, so if you're looking for a lively spot, this is probably not the place. I'm very happy to have found a non-chain restaurant that does traditional Italian food well."

  • "Excellent service, and we were all well satisfied with the early bird special portions. Great authentic Italian cuisine."

  • "A great place. We took our grandchildren there, ages 7 & 9 and our waitress immediately gave them each a ball of pizza dough to play with....kept them amused the entire evening. Food is wonderful. Portions are large. We loved it."

  • "Good food, generous portions, attentive, professional service. From the one of a kind garlic bread to the fresh salads and delicious pastas, pizza and chicken dishes, our family enjoyed a memorable, great meal. We will return on our next visit to ponte vedra."

  • "Great food, the garlic chiabatta is amazing! We enjoy coming here for family dinners, they are very kid friendly, giving kids pizza dough to play with over dinner."

  • "What a hidden secret in Ponte Vedra. Lovely dinner. Food was excellent. Will recommend to friends!"
    Dined on 11/15/2013
  • "Just wasn't the best service this time, and the food was not quite as delicious as we've come to expect. Just unusual..."
    Dined on 11/11/2013
  • "It has a peasant atmosphere, including enjoyable, muted accordion music. It is a comfortable restaurant where you can chat with your dinner companions. However, I had real problems with their veal milanese. I expected a classic veal milanese, which is delicate, pounded thin and served with lemon only for flavoring. However it came sliced too thick, smothered in an unappealing sauce. When I questioned our very polite server her reply was "that's the way we do it". Too bad, because it's the wrong way. My wife's chicken milanese was equally disappointing having the same sauce over thick portions of chicken resembling a Paula Deen style southern chicken and gravy dish. Definitely not Italian! Neither dish was eaten."

  • "We decided to go for a mid week visit after not visiting for over a year. It seems the ambience and professionalism has bumped up, and the food was very good. It won't be so long before we visit again."
