PoppyGreat serviceI must say that the service at this restaurant is incredible. The servers are knowledgeable and very helpful.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMWe are repeat diners at thisWe are repeat diners at this neighborhood favorite restaurant that serves up interesting combinations and flavorful India based preparations of foods sourced locally in the north west. As usual, whether selecting a 7 dish meal or a 10 dish meal, there was plenty of variety and a few dishes that would broaden our experience. The herb infused cocktails and the unusual appetizers at the beginning of the evening started us off right, and the recommended wine pairings worked well with the main dishes. The service was attentive.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat concept for food presentationgreat concept for food presentation and healthy portion sizes5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat!Outdoor seating right in the sunshine for nice days! The non-alcoholic drinks are delicious.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMUnevenIn a town with so many dining choices, Poppy
Was unfortunately not a standout.
Of my selection of ten main course dishes, two were superb,
Two good, and six a disappointment,
It is a fun spot and the service very good, but I will not go back,
except possibly for dessert,
Which included the best cake, hazelnut,
I have ever had in my life.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulously executed, interestingFabulously executed, interesting "thalis" concept. We LOVED this restaurant.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMThe most notable part of theThe most notable part of the night here was the food. The food here is great and inventive. There are flavors melded together that I would never have guessed, which makes dining here so exciting. I must admit a few flavor combinations were pushing the envelope with what I found to be great, but after a few more bites, it really seemed to work. Our waitress was very polite but perhaps not as timely with orders or clearing the table. I suppose her taste in the food may have differed from ours. We asked for a recommendation of an appetizer and the grilled eggplant fries that she pretty firmly stated was the best did not stand up to the quality of the rest of the dinner. Overall a great dinner. Inventive food4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMThali style dining (one plateThali style dining (one plate with seven or ten items) was fun. Vegetarian options delicious. Unique offerings no easily found elsewhere.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent foodSome of the most interesting and delicious dishes I've had, all on the same platter! A very unique format of Thali's, many dishes on one platter, each tasty in it's own right. Lots of Moroccan and Indian influences with fresh herbs and unusual spices. The decor is contemporary, not too note worthy. Fun and yummy cocktails.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMA great place to have dinnerA great place to have dinner at a table with friends or sitting alone at the bar. The food is always delicious. I recommend the 7 course thali with a few appetizers to start. Poppy also has a few great vegetarian options too. Everyone on staff is always welcoming and fun to be around. It's a definite must if you haven't already been.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMA great concept excellentlyA great concept excellently executed. The food was good - both the starter and the thali. The flavours work well together and the idea is fun. If we lived in the area we would be regulars!4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMCouldn't be better!Fabulous, couldn't be better. And thanks for supporting the Dine out for Life organization!4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMHad a wonderful dining experience,Had a wonderful dining experience, can't wait to take some friends there4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMOur experience was very goodOur experience was very good -- Poppy has a lot of buzz for a reason. The food is not only good, but presented in a fresh, fun way that makes each dish more pleasant. The food is, if I understand it, a kind of twist on Indian fare, but the vibe of the place is more fun and modern than any other Indian restaurant I've been to. Try the oysters, they were delicious!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThe idea of a plate of manyThe idea of a plate of many small items is interesting and well executed at Poppy. The 7 item plate is plenty for one person - the ten item was a bit much. I just wish the food was better executed. Two of us sampled a 7 and 10 portion plate. The cod was slightly undercooked, the duck slightly over done and the beef cheeks a bit too gelatinous. The celery gratin was nice - and the naan bread was just right. But nothing jumped out. We each had a mixed drink from the signature list and, while decent, neither had that explosive combination of flavored we get from a place like The Canon for example.
We will give Poppy's another shot when the menu changes and update the review. The staff was outstanding - great service all around.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThe taste combinations wereThe taste combinations were innovative and delicious. I have already recommended it.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMMy first time at Poppy wasMy first time at Poppy was phenomenal. Our server was awesome and the host was also amazing. I would recommend this to all my friend. The food was a bundle of cosmic explosions.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful choices....veryWonderful choices....very different ingredients but all went well together...4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMInteresting food and drinkInteresting food and drink menu. Every dish is made with fresh locally grown food. Every bite is burst with flavor. I thought the dishes are so small that I won’t feel full with the 7-item thalis, but surprisingly I was very satisfied and full. All thali come with nigella-poppy naan...which is pretty good.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMWill Try Again!I've lived on Capitol Hill for a year and walked by Poppy hundreds of time. Everyone alwaays looked like they were having a great time. I finally decided to try it during Seattle Restaurant Week and Poppy did not disappoint. We were seated immediately at our 630pm reservation time. Our server was knowledgeable and described the appetizers and thalis in great detail. The black cod was poached to perfection and all of the thali accompaniments were creative and tasty. The desserts were pretty good. The half bottle of chenin blanc we chose went great with our vegetarian and fish dishes. My only gripe is that it took almost half an hour between each course.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was my first restaurantThis was my first restaurant on my seattle restaurant week list. I am glad I made reservation to dine here with my baby sister. The hostess gave us a warm welcoming and set us immediately at the table I reserve. The waiter we had was very polite, courtliest, and food was delicious. Can't wait to dine here again.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the most creative restaurantOne of the most creative restaurants in Seattle. Wonderful food.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMVery cute and friendly placeVery cute and friendly place to dine. It has its own herb garden outside of the restaurant, and you can tell the herb is freshly picked from it.. The chief makes the ordinary ingredients into extraordinary tastes by mixing the herb magically with the food. Will likely to go back again.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMthe food is exceptional, athe food is exceptional, a variety of options and with each option there are many suboptions. A starter combines with a thali of many small dishes and dessert. Poppy really offers something like a 9 course meal for your 28 Georges.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMAbsolutely fantastic food.Absolutely fantastic food. Possibly the best duck leg and non-raw oyster I've ever eaten. Highly recommend.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMunique nw asian fusion thalisThali format provides the frame for a sampling of delicious local and seasonal dishes with a Japanese, indian and northwest flavor palate. Service was great, food arrives fast and flavors are great! Wife had spring veal while I had the cod with side of chilled asparagus, nettle mushroom soup, yogurt with legumes, spiced and baked cauliflower and fennel salad which was the only taste off-par as it was too salty and vinegary. Drinks are also fresh concoctions especially their fruity non-alcoholic drinks. Overall a 4.5/5 for food!4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent selection of tastesExcellent selection of tastes that went together beautifully.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMPoppy = AzimhGood was amazing and I lived the fact that you get from 7 to 10 little dishes on a single plate. The flavors were out of this world. The cocktails were unique and amazing flavor combinations - the use of spirits like Cynar was a rare treat.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMPoppy is great!Stuff you should know:There is no main course dish...food is served as "thali" which are just small portions designed to be eaten by one person. Each plate comes with either 7 or 10 item thali---its filling without making you feel stuffed. Each item is different than the next so really, if you don't like something you have more than just one option...But everything was delicious and so fresh. Cocktails were also very good--light and refreshing but not skimpy. I would highly recommend happy hour 5-6:30. Ambiance is warm and vibrant and the waitstaff is extremely attentive and friendly. It's good for a date or a night out with a group of friends.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMI LOVE the eclectic menu atI LOVE the eclectic menu at Poppy. It makes for a delightful culinary adventure. The use of unique flavorings provides a delicious spin on both common and uncommon ingredients. The mixed drinks were spot on, interesting combinations with a solid kick. The eggplant fries are outstanding, and the Thalis format great fun to have a myriad of tastes of fine food. We were quite full in the end, sad to lack room for dessert. But the waiter was very accommodating to allow us to each order a single infamous 'nutter butter' square. Just the right sweet n' salty bite to cap off a wonderful meal. I highly recommend this as a dining experience both unique and rewarding.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMSECOND TRYWent to Poppy's a few years ago, was not impressed. Gave it a second try this past weekend. EXCELLENT. The food was presented on the menu offering much better than before. The service was also very good. The interiors is a bit too casual, Ikea feeling. But we went there for the FOOD, we were delighted.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMPoppy Rocks!Great lighting! Very welcoming atmosphere. Very attentive staff. Great drinks from the bar, both regular and non-proof! Wonderful food! We will be back for sure!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food is fantastic, varied,The food is fantastic, varied, and great for omnivores and vegetarians alike. I also enjoy the frequently-changing cocktail menu. We met with two dear friends we hadn't seen in ages. There was no pressure to vacate the table on Friday night, when business was brisk, and we were able to have a great conversation, aided by the fact that there was no intrusive music, a bane found in most restaurants these days, it seems.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMPoppy is one of those placesPoppy is one of those places that you stand in your kitchen eating left overs in the middle of the night. Each small dish has such unique flavors. While we often never get to desert, we sampled the cheese cake and would come back just for that. one of my favorite Seattle restaurants.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMWe have three small kids andWe have three small kids and don't get out very much so when we do I expect greatness. The nettle and mushroom soup surprised me by being my favorite item on my thali, and the dessert we chose (a chocolate torte with caramel sauce, soba-cha crunchies, and lime sorbet) was amazing!3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMA great meal in beautifulA great meal in beautiful surroundings.
