Poppy Kitchen is the next chapter of the Metzger family story where love is expressed through their passion for food. Brian Metzger's poppy was one of the most kind and loving man he's ever known. If ever a restaurant could authentically represent kindness, love and strength from a culinary perspective, it’s Poppy Kitchen.

Poppy Kitchen is located at the newly beautiful Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa in Tucson, Arizona. This iconic La Paloma resort is nestled on 250 acres in the high Sonoran Desert foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains and features picturesque mountain, city and Tucson golf course views amidst stunning desert landscape and wildlife.

  • "we had dinner at Poppy kitchen using a groupon....it was great! We started our meal with two glasses of wine and the goat cheese appetizer, then followed it up with the crispy salmon, and fish number two (which was trout). Both entrees were outstanding.I love the mix of the baby beet greens and the beet puree on the plate, it added a great pop of color! To finish the evening we had the made to order carrot cake. What a concept!! warm carrot cake in a skillet, cold ice cream, and crispy carrots, yum yum!! We will be back Thank you for a great night :)"

  • "2nd visit. This visit we were seated in the lower front section. It was VERY loud. I do not recommend this area. Sit outside or in the back!! The computers were having issues & our waiter forgot to turn in our drink order, app order, & dessert order. He also forgot to bring our coffee, ever. It was kind of a wrecked evening to be honest, as it took forever to get our meal. I like the restaurant, the food is pretty good, but I don't expect to go back much, especially if they will not give points for open table anymore. I like to stick with restaurants who have quieter surroundings, and work with open table for points. Makes me sad because I really used to like this family of restaurants, but lately they are kind of slacking off a bit."

The food was great... so good that I cleared my plate. All 6 of us in my party thought the food was excellent, but the atmosphere was so irritating that we would not return. Unfortunate for us and the restaurant. So much potential..."

  • "Metzger opened this restaurant at the same time they closed Jax, which was always one of my favorites. I was hoping it would be a replica. While they carried over some of the menu items (the crispy salmon, for instance), most of the menu is new. We were disappointed with the two fish entrees we ordered. Both were overcooked (this never happened at Jax). The dessert was lifeless. We'll have to try this again to see if maybe the chef was having a bad night."

  • "The advertised happy hour is only available in the bar. We weren't told this until after we sat down and ordered. They also claim to be gluten free and kid friendly, but there were no gluten free options on the kid menu. We asked if they could make something simple for our young kids. We settled on a small hamburger patty and French fries. When the bill came we realized we were charged for the adult portion Kobe beef burgers. I love my kids, but they don't need adult-sized $15 burgers. This wouldn't have bothered me if they didn't clearly indicate they were kid and gluten friendly on their website. Finally, the meals that all the adults ordered were pretty marginal, especially for the price."

  • "My husband and I purchased a Groupon to try out Poppy Kitchen. We've been to The Abbey several times and have enjoyed it. Poppy Kitchen reminds me of an upscales Abbey. I had the Crispy Salmon, which was very delicious. My husband has the Seafood Gumbo. The only thing missing from that was a starch, like rice. Otherwise, the meal and service was excellent. I can see ourselves going back!"

  • "Ordered the Steak Tartare and asked for an entree size, but did not receive. The appetizer was shockingly disappointing. Five very thin slices of french bread (Ficelle size--so about 2-1/2" in diameter) and grayish steak tartare of minute proportion...can't believe that they actually charge $13 for this. Since the meat was so 'gray'--it definitely did not look fresh or high quality. However, the rest of our dishes were very good...wish we had sent this one back."

  • "We enjoyed the table, view and patio. The margaritas were as described and very tasty. The only disappointment was the rib eye steak which had been so highly recommended. My husband is a BBQ person and knows how to cook a steak very nicely so he likes to check out restaurants that brag about their steaks. This steak was not cooked as he would have liked and it had a too much fat on it. But overall, the rest of the meal, salad, chicken pita with homemade chips were great. We will go again and give this restaurant a second try."

  • "The food was very good, both the salmon and the pork porterhouse as main courses, and an excellent carrot cake desert. My companion is allergic to garlic and the waiter was very attentive in asking the kitchen and advising about which courses to avoid. We sat indoors and the noise level was very high, forcing us to repeat almost everything we said to each other. It didn't help that an infant was constantly screaming several tables away. There were a considerable number of children at other tables."

  • "Sadly it is not Jacks Kitchen of old. Was sorry to see most of the best employees are gone and a lot of very young servers have replaced them. The food was good but not as much of a great experience as prior. We had a party of 4 and with the Ribeye Steaks for all - we all had to say it was not the Ribeye for 2 (which was a much better steak), No red-velvet cake and the carrot cake is no match--skillet much like my daughters play size and taste more like spice cake with ice cream. For years we raved about the prior restaurant but we will not be able to do the same for Poppy Kitchen. What is with popcorn for a small starter ? Jacks was smart and reminded us of New York/LA."

  • "My wife and I had heard mix reviews but frequented Jax's often and knew the caliber of food there was great and expected the same at Poppy's we were not disappointed! All was great! We started with the Oysters, then My wife had the Pasta with Lamb meatballs, I had the Sammy, that was a fun spin on chicken piccata. We had the carrot cake, which was awesome and highly recommended!   • "Jax Kitchen lives on! Relocated and renamed, the menu at the new Metzger restaurant will look very familiar. Same for the wine list. But then Jax didn't close because people didn't like it. So just go east a ways and experience it again. A lovely patio setting and the inside is spacious and airy as well. The parking lot view from inside leaves something to be desired but the staff is attentive and easy going. Enjoy!"

  • "I've been to Jax and loved it! This brings the memories of Jax with the power of being at the Westin (a great move). Server/busser very attentive, especially the busser, Ryan. I would like to see him serve next time I go. Noticed a few minor things with the servers that would take Poppy to the 5star or "fit for foodies" category like fingers touching the tops of plates and glasses (serving and bussing) and uniforms or at least synchronized clothing so you know who works there. My wife and I took longer than average to be done with the appetizer so our dinners were barely warm when served but I take some responsibility for futzin' around with the chopping block for too long. The view...gorgeous at night. Chef Pete came to the table A+"

  • "Arrived at 6 p, Very Noisy, Busy on a Wed eve. 3rd visit, Goat Cheese & Short Ribs Exquisite, Brownies frozen so solid couldn't get a fork into them.Our Waiter rushed us &, tried to pick·up bill as we were in the middle of eating dessert. Don't mind Servers in Street Clothes, but would much prefer they wear a long Apron with their outfit, don' want to feel like I'm at a picnic when eating nice food. Popcorn snack does absolutely nothing to and does nothing to enhance the dining experience. service should be paying attention to their tables, rather than running around refilling popcorn snacks. Won't be going back except for HappybHour"

The light from the restaurant to parking was a problem for me as it is poorly lit & I have low vision in 1 eye, however, my husband says he will drop me off in front (nice husband). The menu does not have a large selection, but you can tell they put a lot of thought into the preparation of the dishes on the menu.   • "We had dined at Jax at least 12 times. This was our first venture to the new location (and name). Very crowded and busy on a Thursday evening. Staff were attentive and efficient as always. The noise level was distracting. Staff had to practically yell to discuss the specials. At Jax each dish seemed to be a work of art. Here, not so much. We ordered the Kitchen Salad.. This evening the salad was presented with pepper already on it vs. the usual option of asking. I had the crispy salmon and my wife the Chicken Sammy. The salmon was good and the chicken excellent. Both side dishes were way over the top salty (risotto and chips). Had the carrot cake to go. Maybe it lost something traveling but was good at best We'll wait a bit, then return."
