  • Entertainment: We have an eclectic selection of music including classic cool jazz featuring Miles Davis, Nina Simone, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington and more! Sometimes, we even swing a little with Frank Sinatra. Andrea Bocelli and Luciano Pavarotti are also known to softly serenade the dining room with favourite arias by famous Italian composers such as Giuseppe Verdi, Giacomo Puccini and more!

Enjoy a relaxed evening of fine food in a tranquil environment and let our Chefs work wonders with local, fresh and sustainable ingredients in simple and flavourful combinations.


We bake all of our breads in house, and make all of our pastas, sauces and desserts by hand.

He treated our sons, 10 and 11, with respect and courtesy as well as us. He offered to change our sons drink when it looked like he was not enjoying it and when the food took a little longer than expected, he topped up our Prosecco, which was a nice touch. The food was amazing and the atmosphere terrific!"

  • "I enjoyed my Caesar Salad and found the veal chop tender and tasty, cooked to order. My companion said his mushroom soup was excellent and the short ribs were good, though the portion very small. (He ended up eating half of my veal chop). We decided to get two orders of gnocchi for the next day. This pasta dish was twenty dollars each and there were 32 gnocchi in one order and 33 in another!! 60 plus cents per !! Had we ordered this for dinner, we' d have starved. To add insult to injury, the gnocchi were like lumps of paste-not properly cooked! I might also point out that there were only 3 occupied tables that night. Management may have to address some issues in order to maintain and increase clientele."

  • "we've eaten here with couples. as well as large family groups.....they're very used to accommodating any size dining group as their diningroom is very spacious with a very authentic feel to the decor. The food is good and they're also flexible with dietary needs/requests. for example I can't eat onion or garlic...Italian kitchen staples but they cooked a tasty dish for me without....they even made a pasta dish for my grand daughter that was not listed on the menu. Staff very friendly and the service attentive.. we hightly recommend this Italian restaurant...."

  • "We had dinner here a couple of years ago. It was great. This time, not so. Pasta was over cooked; eggplant parmigiana dish was mush as if it had been precooked and previously frozen. Ceasar salad was average at best. Wine and cappuccino's were good."

  • "My first (and most likely only) dining experience was disappointing. Given the $38.00 a menu price for the Dine Out event, I expected a high level of quality and presentation compared to other restaurants in this price range. The beef carpaccio with the "crispy capers" came with "soggy capers" and a bit too thickly sliced. The gorgonzola risotto did not remotely resemble risotto nor did it even have a hint of gorgonzola. In fact, the rice looked like any long grain basis plain rice NOTHING like risotto. The Tiramisu, however, was okay albeit a bit too much of those lady fingers. The Poor Italien had a RICH price but POOR food."

  • "We visited Poor Italian during Dine Out Vancouver as I always like to try something new during this time. I have driven past the restaurant literally hundreds of times but never gone in. The room was warm and welcoming, as was our server. She was prompt and informative but not hovering. They had the full menu on offer as well as the Dine Out menu, which we went for. My pasta was outstanding and you could tell that every part of it was made from scratch. My husband had the beef short rib that he raved about. We will be back to check out more of the menu in the future. Highly recommend this neighbourhood find."

As a group, we've been to the Poor Italian several times and have tried many menu items, all have been very good. It's location doesn't lend itself to being a flashy or lavish establishment, but it's certainly a gem when it comes to the service and food quality!"

  • "Brought my wife and 2 adult boys there for her birthday dinner. This is the fourth time we've dined here and we always enjoy it. I find the prices reasonable and the quality as good as some of the higher end downtown restaurants. It's a good alternative for us coming in from Coquitlam. Some of us did the Dine out menu and the mussels are some of the best I've had, huge, fresh, and well prepared. We also had the homemade Porcini and veal ravioli and the Linguine vongole, both were excellent and service was good."

  • "I have booked a table for three for the first time on my birthday on Jan 18. My guest gave me a birthday card ( envelope and my name) which I had left on the table after putting on my coat and scarf at about 8:15 pm. I called the restaurant at about 12:05 am , 2 pm and again .at 2:30 pm. At 6 pm a woman from the restaurant called to tell me that a hostess had found the card and left it on the shelf but the card is not there anymore and is likely thrown away. The restaurant should not throw away guest belonging in less than 24 hours. The card may contain something inside! The restaurant should have tried to call me."

  • "We went in the waiter was courteous, but never spent more than 30 seconds with us. Iordered one of the dishes from the dine out Vancouver menu, my partner ordered the lasagna. The lasagna tasted well enough, but for an upscale restaurant (which their prices suggest) the lasagna did seem spectacular. I ordered the veal porcicini ravioli, I was glad the pasta was made in house, but unfortunately the veal and sauce left a lot to be desired. The ravioli filling seemed more like the filling from raviolis in a can with added cheese or cream. The sauce seemed like day old gravy that they had watered down. I was very unimpressed, I couldn't even finish the dish. The only good thing was the gelato and sorbeto dessert."

  • "First time visit. Ate at Dine Out Vancouver (coincidence), 2 of us for dinner. Had 3 course tasting menu with Buffalo Caprese + Mussels appie, Braised short ribs + risotto entree and Tiramisu and Lemon Sorbetto + Panicotta. More than we normally eat, and portions were full size. Short ribs were excellent, risotto was silky and smooth, not gummy. And what a treat, the entree came with vegetables, all too uncommon today, where carbs + protein seem to be the only priority and vegetables are non-existent or a side dish extra!"

  • "Made from scratch pastas, incredibly rich and flavourful meat and fish dishes, soups, risottos, salads - you won't find more authentic Italian / Tuscan cuisine, prepared with such love and attention to detail in the Lower Mainland. The fresh sheet, with seasonal specialties, is exquisite; well-balanced and a lovely addition to the regular menu (which has a nice range of options, including some vegetarian dishes). The service is courteous, friendly, and responsive. Tables covered with crisp linens, sparkling glass and silverware, and simple but elegant china come together for a memorable visual dining experience, that supports and enhances the food experience. And the food experience is extraordinary."

  • "We recently went to the PI with 2 other couples, the restaurant was full with several large tables of Birthday Celebrations happening. We all ordered appetizers and a lovely bottle of Italian wine. The Poached pear and Goat Cheese salad was wonderful I also ordered the Lamb Shank with Risotto. I have never ordered lamb before and this proved to be an excellent choice. Our server brought a small piece of Tirimisu with a candle to help celebrate my birthday."

He didn't introduce himself; so I don't know if that is normally done there. The server's pace was good - it was not rushed and allowed time for us to talk (though I think that with other groups, it might have been too slow, though I think that the server would have been attuned to the group's needs). The food was excellent. Two of us had the special ravioli with veal - it was tasty, a good, filling portion, nicely made. It was our first time and we will definitely be coming back!"
