since this restaurant was in the neighbourhood, we decided to give it a try and was quite impressed. The wait staff were very helpful and friendly, and the food was fantastic. I would definitely recommend it. We all ordered different dishes and had a chance to try all three entree's and all were fantastic, along with the calamari.....yummm. As we were leaving we received a wonderful surprise from the manager, 3 shot's of grappa. Apparently he overheard we were having a reunion. A wonderful gesture, thought. Congrat's Poor Italian, you definitely checked all the right boxes.

I am impressed by the server, he has great experience and professional. He ensured every item we ordered was met with our standard, including the wine. Food was fresh and delicious, we had ling cod, fish was crispy outside but juicy inside, very fresh fish. The veal we had was very tender and the sauce was delicious.

This place is conveniently located for Burnaby, East Vancouver and the North Shore. Parking can be a challenge. The service was good and the food was pretty good. The menu is somewhat limited, but what they do have is good. The dessert menu is fairly extensive.

This was my first experience at this spot. The food was very good, but the service was little to be desired. The waiting for each course was very slow, if my company was not entertaining I would be very disappointed. The waiteress was very good & accommodating, but the delivery of the food took forever. My husband & I dine out a lot to many great restaurants in the city & it would be questionable if we go back due to the slow service. Good thing, we didn't have an event to go to.

Sorry to say we did not have a great experience at this restaurant....we had looked forward to it for a long time mainly because we like the newscaster Tony Parson...without exception the 5 of us thought the same.....the food was just awful.....on top of that they kept messing up the food that should have been served to us....2 were eating the other three trying to sort out what had been ordered. The one redeeming factor was our waitress as she was excellent and was very upset with the kitchen staff.... even the dessert got mixed up, only two of us took that as we thought they could not mix that up....but they did and took about 15 minutes to sort it out. Will not recommend PI to anyone .....

Started out with not being seated in an almost empty restaurant because they didn't have enough menus to give out. We sat for almost 10 mins with no service. Our food came promptly , too promptly for being fresh. Tasted not much better than out of a can. We dressed as you should for dinner out only to see people I sweat pants and construction clothing. It felt like a lower class Old Spaghetti Factory

My wife and I have driven by the restaurant many times so for our 28th anniversary we chose it for our dinner. Our server was great, wine was pretty good, starters were excellent and my main course, lasagna was excellent. My wife chose the short rib as her main course and she wasn't thrilled with it. fat to fatty for her liking and she often orders the short rib at other restaurants. prices were reasonable and overall it is a very nice restaurant.

Poor Italian is our go to Italian trattoria without having to go downtown. Seafood and pastas are well prepared and tasty. The food usually comes out hot. Service is professional and friendly. Staff is very accommodating, allowing for substitutions, making dishes not on the menu, rectifying problems without question. Love the antipasti platter, mussels and the al dente pastas. I appreciate the space between the tables and the family friendly atmosphere.

Went to the Poor Italian restaurant for the first time last week while on our way to the theatre. We both started with the caesar salad which was made the old fashioned way with anchovies. Simply delicious. We then moved on to ordering our main course. My partner ordered the lasagna which was huge, and simply delicious. I had the Paccheri e Salsiccia which was homemade large rigatoni like pasta with italian sausage in a creamy tomato sauce. Flavour was good but the pasta was a bit too al dente. Wine list is extensive but a bit pricey. We enjoyed a half liter of Mesi Cabernet Sauvignon which was flavorful and just enough to share. Overall was a great experience and we will likely return.

Being a Wed night we were seated at the window with a view of the North Shore mountains and it was quiet. Our hostess and server were friendly and helpful with suggestions. I ordered the Pasta and Peroni special.I started with Insalata Caprese con Mozzarella di Buffalo. My friend ordered the day's special starting with Asparagus soup topped with shrimp. Our appetizers looked appealing. My Linguine Vongole arrived al dente and full of plump clams in a spicy, buttery fresh tomato sauce. My friend's 3 Veal Medallions were 3" thick with a generous selection of vegetables!!Our server came back to check on us regularly. I wish we had room for dessert or cappuccino! We will return and recommend Poor Italian Ristorante.

Once again we had a great dinner at the Poor Italian. The menu is not huge, but certainly caters to all tastes and when asked, certain dishes not on the menu were prepared for our group of seven. We ate family style so had platters of antipasti, then several pastas to share. All deliciously prepared. Service was awesome....attentive and unobtrusive.

The Poor Italian is a great Italian tratorria. I have been a number of times and always have great food. It is very kid friendly yet it doesn't cut corners on the food or atmosphere. Last time I went was on Mother's Day-May 11-and again it didn't disappoint. Food was fabulous; service a bit slow but, hey, it was Mother's Day and the place was packed.

We have had dinner here a few times in the the past and generally are dining experience was good. However this time was different, three of us ordered veal cutlets that were dry and tasted bland. One ordered the veal chop that was also subpar. The only food items that were good were the appetizers that night. The wait for entres were over and hour and a half! Too long! The waiter apologized and took care of the cutlets. I understand that some times their are inconsistencies but this night was not good at all.

Ambience is great, good view through windows of North Shore Mountains. Service was a bit slow for the entrees and reasonable for the appertifs and salads. Presentation was ok but nothing stellar. The some dishes were a bit on the salty side but probably good for those that crave the salt. We had their evening specials for the entree at bit over priced for the quality and presentation have had better like Gianni's on North Shore. Will most likely go back to try the basic pasta dishes to see how they stack up with other places we have eaten at.

This was a tremendous experience for us. The server was intuitive and friendly. The best service I have had in recent memory. He treated our sons, 10 and 11, with respect and courtesy as well as us. He offered to change our sons drink when it looked like he was not enjoying it and when the food took a little longer than expected, he topped up our Prosecco, which was a nice touch. The food was amazing and the atmosphere terrific!

we've eaten here with couples. as well as large family groups.....they're very used to accommodating any size dining group as their diningroom is very spacious with a very authentic feel to the decor. The food is good and they're also flexible with dietary needs/requests. for example I can't eat onion or garlic...Italian kitchen staples but they cooked a tasty dish for me without....they even made a pasta dish for my grand daughter that was not listed on the menu. Staff very friendly and the service attentive.. we hightly recommend this Italian restaurant....

    Dined on 2/18/2014
I enjoyed my Caesar Salad and found the veal chop tender and tasty, cooked to order. My companion said his mushroom soup was excellent and the short ribs were good, though the portion very small. (He ended up eating half of my veal chop). We decided to get two orders of gnocchi for the next day. This pasta dish was twenty dollars each and there were 32 gnocchi in one order and 33 in another!! 60 plus cents per !! Had we ordered this for dinner, we' d have starved. To add insult to injury, the gnocchi were like lumps of paste-not properly cooked! I might also point out that there were only 3 occupied tables that night. Management may have to address some issues in order to maintain and increase clientele.
