Diner Reviews
  • "I could not have asked for a better place to have a first date. I only wish my personality and looks were as great as your warmth & service."

  • "Pond House Cafe comes through seven days/week. Brunch, often neglected by the best of restaurants, is not overlooked at the Pond House Cafe. The choices are many; something for everyone and every age category. And the featured cornbread was like no other: moist, sweet, thick, and just luscious. Egg white options make omelets fit for food restrictive diets, also."

  • "I enjoyed the Pond House for lunch after going to the greenhouse in Elizabeth Park to see the beautiful spring flowers. We were seated soon after arriving, service was excellent . I ordered the Asian salad which was delicious and enough for me to take home for another meal. My friend ordered the fig and flatbread which also was delicious. Overall a great experience. I have also been for brunch which I highly recommend."

  • "The Pond House is and continues to be one of my favorite restaurants for its location in Elizabeth Park, food, decor, and service. I have never been disappointed in the food. It's a lovely place to have dinner and a "go to" for lunch. Even though I am writing this in March, You must visit them in October when they decorate the restaurant and grounds for Halloween. It has become a tradition for me to go there for brunch with friends to eat and see the spectacular display."

  • "Every time I am there, I am never disappointed with the food and ambience. The cutlery and tableware are clever, although I do think the plates with the uneven borders make it difficult to keep a knife perched. But that is a small thing because the food trumps the dinnerware when all is said and done. Service was rather leisurely the day we were there, but we were in no rush, so perhaps the wait staff realized this. I've been there for lunch and dinner and have eaten inside and out. All were quite enjoyable,"

  • "The food is very good, not the best in Hartford, but the the price is too high for the amount of food you receive. The dining area could use a good upgrade. Chairs are old and uncomfortable and the room was very chilly. The waitress was outstanding. we've had her the past 3 times there."

  • "I always enjoy the Pond House, especially for brunch, which adds a great mix of omelettes and other breakfast dishes to a very tasty and reasonable lunch menu. The menu is creative and delicious, the ambiance is pleasant and unpretentious and the service is very good. Dining outside on the patio is delightful in warm weather."

  • "I frequent the Pind House several timescale year. Convenient, easy to park, great food and affords a walk in thr park (if you have time). Servers are attentive and if you are in a schedule they respond and if not you can be leisurely. Great food with many specials and seasonal varietals. A favorite."

  • "We had a group of 9 and pond House easily accommodated us. Our meals all came out at the same time. We all ordered different items and everyone was very happy with their choice. StAff was attentive without being overbearing. Overall we had a deilicious meal and a relaxed evening."

  • "This is truly one of the finer venues in Hartford or West Hartford. The place is attractive and inviting, and both the food and the service are outstanding. The staff is friendly and the prices are reasonable for what you get. My guest is glutton free and the staff took her restriction seriously. The server went into the kitchen to be sure what she wanted to order was in fact glutton free. She had no trouble finding a good selection of food to choose from."

  • "We visited our son in Simsbury and wanted to enjoy Sunday brunch with him. We found Pond House Cafe on OpenTable and had a lovely meal in the large dining room. The food was great and everyone enjoyed what they ordered. The only downside was the coffee; regular brewed coffee arrived luke-warm and we asked for fresh. We watched the servers pour the luke warm coffee in to mix with warm coffee! Pretty surprising for such a lovely venue. Other than that, it was a beautiful morning. Can't wait to return in summer to enjoy the views of the gardens."

  • "I wanted to take my 5 years old out for a brunch and this seemed like a perfect spot. I am glad we made a reservation - the space is limited and the line of people was long. The food came out piping hot and very quickly. My eggs Benedicte on a crab cake were perfect. My son did not like his grilled cheese, but he likes his food a certain way, so it's not their fault. He loved his fries though and they were gracious to give us a box of them to take home. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and we will be back on a regular basis. I do recommend to make reservations ahead."

  • "We sat in the big open room with the fireplace, and felt like the food and atmosphere were both very nice. The French press coffee is a treat. The parking in winter was very difficult, circled the place 5 times before I made a spot for myself."

  • "As usual, the food was very good, and the service was perfect. Can't wait to return! Have to say, though, that, considering it was Valentines weekend, I was very surprised there was nothing special done with the decor...not even fresh flowers. (Last visit was a few days after Halloween, and the decorations were awesome!). There were also no 'Valentine' specials on the menu, which would have been nice. But decor aside, we enjoyed a lovely lunch. Looking forward to our next visit!"

  • "The menu and its beautifully presented and delivered plates are alive, upscale, notably reflective of new foods, and have something for everyone. The eclectic cafe's ambiance gives off a cozy and smart city effect, while nestled on the grounds of beautiful Elizabeth Park (no matter the season or weather!). Waitstaff is knowledgeable, friendly, and efficient. But....it is the FOOD, the glorious food, and the chef and cooks! Run, don't walk, to have their kale Caesar salad or anything with sauteed kale. Outstanding. Both the pork dish and the vegetarian mushroom Wellington were A+, and the mussels...sigh...were buttery sweet and just out-of-this-world."

  • "We went to pond house on valentine's day. What a wonderful experience. They set up their private events room in order to accomedate more guests. The room was so romantic and not crowded that you were able to enjoy your date and the conversation. Beautiful decorations including a fireplace . Very romantic. Normally we go to the restaurant potion of the building which is also very beautiful but this was a nice surprise. Food was amazing ! I had the scallops very delecious. And the dessert items were to die for as well:), if you are looking to impress your date this a nice spot. We'll definitely will keep coming back."

  • "Food should be the center of every dining experience, and at The Pond House the food is the star. This meal featured quality, fresh food, that took my palate on an exciting journey. The electronic tablet menus take some getting use to, and despite their quirks, provided images of several of the dishes. A great place to have high quality food, and where you can have a civil conversation while enjoying the fare. Return visits are anticipated."

  • "I bask in the full experience! I feel welcomed as soon as I walk in the door...the atmosphere is delicious. The menu is full of surprises...they say ADVENTURE ahead - NOT "I just made this at home last week..." It is exactly what I look for in my dining out experiences - a culinary treat. Thank you."

  • "The Pond House is eclectic and comfortable. The food is first rate, the ambiance comfortable but elegant. During the warmer months the view of the pond in Elizabeth Park is particularly pleasant and inspiring. Even in the cold months the restaurant offers a warm source of dining pleasure. We eat here whenever we get the chance."

  • "The Pond House Cafe I have always considered to be the best restaurant in West Hartford. The food was consistently delicious and interesting; their menu changing with the seasons. Clearly the small size of the restaurant enabled them to not mass produce their menu items. Then they opened a sister restaurant in Glastonbury, which is very large and not so charming. But worst of all, the food is terrible - very generic and uninteresting. Now that the Pond House Cafe inWH has changed their menu, very similar to the Glastonbury Grille, and they are expanding as well, my fear is that they are going to go the generic route and we will lose the incredible food I always could depend on in the beautiful park. Please don't change!!!!!!!!"
