A word from Pomodoro Rosso
Pomodoro, at 229 Columbus Avenue has been a neighborhood favorite for years. The beautifully prepared Italian classics and excellent service has earned this restaurant a loyal following of Upper West Siders. Beige walls adorned with decorative ceramic plates from Italy, a ceiling trellis with hanging grapes and red and white-checkered tablecloths evoke the feeling of an authentic Italian trattoria. The street side outdoor café is the place to sit and enjoy a glass of wine and savor the antipasti while watching the people stride by.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Great menu. Received chipped and cracked water glass. Clams Casino were mostly breadcrumbs. Would not order again. Monkfish special was overcooked and dry."

  • "All the pasta here is delicious! We used to come here all the time and order in from here, but since we cook a lot of pasta at home, have not been doing that. We're happy we came back. But our table was too small for 6 people(and we had a reservation so it wasn't like they were fitting us in at the last minute) so it was challenging to juggle all the food plates and the water and drink glasses- made the meal a bit unpleasant. The entrees were also very slow in coming out. The bread to start is yummy!"

  • "We have enjoyed wonderful meals at Pomodoro for many years. It never disappoints. Besides the delicious innovative specials and menu items, the courteous and warm service make it most popular with locals, faithful to return to the reliable delicious meals, generous portions and creative plates. The touch of a well seasoned staff make the experience here a treat every time."

  • "Great welcome, service & ambiance. Mediocre food even at the moderate prices. I loved the place but wish the food were a little better."

  • "I came here for an anniversary date, and the service and food were exceptional. The manager was accommodating and let us sit at a bigger table, as we had a few things with us (bag, flowers). We had the salad special to start, which was delicious. Our entrees came quickly, and I have to say was one of the best Italian dishes I have had in a while. The menu is fairly priced ($25-35 average), which is expected from a nice UWS restaurant. The ambiance is very nice and quiet. We will definitely come back here again. Very highly recommended."

  • "With so many great restaurants in NYC, I would skip this one. The staff didn't seem to care too much. just so so italian food"

  • "We came here to celebrate a birthday. We were 6 at the table and although we had different plates, the food was fantastic. The service was just as good. Great find."

  • "We had a very nice meal here. Went before a show. The service was excellent and our meals were as well. The service was fast and attentive. The atmosphere is lively .......the tables are close together.....but that was not bothersome for us....it's a fun place."

  • "When I booked this place, I was expecting a small average meal for dinner. What I found was an amazing dining experience with great service and the best Italian food I ever tasted! The service was amazing and the portion sizes of the meal was perfect! I receommend the linguini alla vongole (I exchanged the linguini for cappellini) and the baked clams for an appetizer were absolutely the best! I cannot find the words to describe this place....overall, everything was to perfection! I will definitely come back here again and again."

  • "My friend and I eat at this terrific Italian restaurant every chance we get. The food and service are outstanding. If you live or are in the neighborhood don't hesitate to make a reservation and stop in for a great meal."

  • "The food and service is consistently good. There is no pretense, just an easy relaxing place to eat. The staff could not be better and take very good care of their patrons. I've been going here consistently for several years and it is my go-to neighborhood place!"

  • "I celebrated my dad's 80th birthday at the restaurant and it was very lovely. He all had a great time and the food was excellent. I liked the atmosphere and most importantly it was nice being greeted by Peter the manager. He always makes you feel very welcome and special. I have dined there on several occasions and it was the first time for my siblings and my dad."

  • "The restaurant has been in the neighborhood around 20 years, has survived due to excellent service, food and comfort. Though small, there is an intimacy and comfort level not usually found when tables are close to each other. Somehow they have achieved the feat of privacy between the tables. Going for dinner is reliably a lovely dining experience."

  • "good wine list, great service and a broad menu make this the perfect spot to please all. we had 6 people for dinner with 1 gluten free and 1 vegetarian. the menu had plenty of options and the wait staff was excellent with suggestions and also indicating the head chef was happy to accommodate any necessary customization. had everything from the pork chop and the salmon special, with others trying the various pasta options. no long wait for food either, very prompt. while seating appears tight, the staff kept the table moving so we did not feel cramped. well worth giving this spot a visit and I will definitely return."

  • "The food is fine and that is the problem. For the price fine is not good enough. 25 dollars for "fine" chicken parm is too much. Food was not bad it just was not very good. Edible, you won't leave hungry, but you won't be asking when can we come back. They have to up their game in the flavor dept or just lower their prices so that there is value if not great flavor. Very popular and convenient location. Attentive staff."

  • "We went for pasta and salad before the opera. Service was very good and the ambiance is fine but the food was not so great. The tri colore salad was awful (5 slivers of endive, mostly limp arugula, drenched in dressing with tough slabs of parmesan). One pasta dish was ok (rigatoni alls grappa) although drowning in sauce but the mafaldina al sugo di carne was pretty much ground beef plus tomato sauce -- not very interesting or delicious. Too bad."

  • "I wanted to find a cute, charming place to take my girlfriend for her birthday before a 7pm show. I mentioned that it was to celebrate a birthday when making the reservation and then again to the waitress during dinner. I didn't expect the entire staff to sing Happy Birthday or anything, but maybe a cupcake or dessert with a candle in it would have been nice, instead of nothing at all. The food was generally good; they had a salad special with goat cheese, artichoke hearts and avocado which was very tasty. My girlfriend, however, didn't care for her pasta and although I can't blame Pomodoro for her sensitive taste buds, it did seem a bit excessive to charge her $10 for a small bowl of plain noodles to replace the meal she didn't enjoy."

  • "On a busy Friday night we arrived to a lot of people waiting, but because of our Open Table reservation the normal 46 minute wait was less than 10. The bartender was friendly and even though very busy, chatted about his favorites on the menu. We were seated promptly, the staff took our coats and a swarm of staff was there to serve with friendly, almost familial attention. My wife mentioned to our server that she didn't see veal Marsala on the menu ( one of her favorites) and they said they could prepare it especially for her. The entire meal was pleasant, tasty and made even more enjoyable by a most attentive staff. We can't wait to return."

  • "Went here for drinks and dinner after a fabulous show at Lincoln Center. The food was a abundant and excellent. I had a pasta and fish dish and I couldn't finish the fish as it was overflowing! Though the wine was a bit pricey, I'd go back to eat there in a heartbeat!"

  • "The homemade focaccia bread is always warm and fresh. Their portions are abundant - it's difficult to finish so you can have lunch or dinner tomorrow - and the price is right. The service is terrific and the manager, Peter, is extremely friendly and knows many of his patrons by their first name. Great neighborhood restaurant."

  • "I asked for a table away from children when we made our reservation, and we got one. Brought neighborhood friends for their first time and they were thrilled with this "find". Excellent food, prepared exactly as requested, excellent bread and foccaccia, sizable portions, very generous wine pour, best house cab anywhere. Reasonable prices, owner on premises at all times, snappy service. Can't wait to return. From grand kids to elder adults, this restaurant scores at the very top."

  • "Made a reservation they open table after reading the reviews of this restaurant. It did not disappoint. Food was delicious. Had mussels for lunch and pasta for entree. The mussels were delicious and a good portion of them. We asked for extra bread to dip in the sauce it was so delicious. Yummy. The entree came and I could only eat half of it b/c I was full. Will definitely be back."

  • "We decided to try out this restaurant because of its proximity to Lincoln Center. We had a great brunch--that included standard (well-prepared) brunch staples, some with unusual twists (e.g. wild mushroom omelet), as well as a breakfast drink (mimosa, bloody mary or screwdriver), and coffee or tea. Excellent value, and excellent food. Plus, the service was attentive and quick, and we made it to the play in plenty of time."

  • "Booked a table based on tripadvisor. Cozy atmosphere, a bit noisy, but inviting. Ordered a mix of appetizers, all average. Ordered the salsiccia pasta, and it was probably the worst pasta I've ever had. Would never in my wildest dreams go back."

  • "We were a party of six, attending a Lincoln Center performance and came for dinner before the show. We ordered quite a few dishes to share, and everything they put on the table was first rate. We will definitely return."

  • "If you cannot find a better table anywhere else, this is your place. Service was great, I think our server went out of the way to keep us happy, but the food was just ordinary."

  • "My friend and I are repeat diners because of the great food, reasonable cost, and great service. Despite being a little cramped, we are never disappointed with the food whether it is a pasta, meat or fish dish the food is always delicious. Great sauces. The PAPPARDELLE AL CROSTACEO that my friend had was very tasty, the pasta cooked perfectly. I had the special, Lamb Shank and it was lean and came off of the bone easily. And, if you want a treat try the lemon sorbet, it is served in a lemon and I always order it. The waitress was helpful, friendly, efficient, and above all remembered us from past visits. If in the area make a reservation and you will not be disappointed."
