We've often been asked the story behind our name, Pomme. The word means apple in French. There really isn't a story except that we like the sound of pomme, pronounced "pom". We like the colors of apples and you'll find them in our room. We like the smallness of the name. We opened during the apple harvest. We like the simple and complex associations.
It is our intent to tempt you with our ambiance, bonhomie and cuisine.

  • "I took my parents there for a nice dinner. The service was slow. I had to flag down the waiter on 2 occasions. The chairs were uncomfortable. My cucumber soup was OK, not great. The salmon smelled fishy and tasted fishy with poor flavor. I rarely ever do this, but I went ahead and asked the waiter to take it away, at which point he reminded me it was "wild salmon so it might taste different." I'm quite familiar with wild salmon and found his explanation annoying. I asked for the ravioli instead, and found the gravy on the ravioli way too salty and the ball of spinach inside chewy. My parents said their meals were really good (filet mignon and duck). Wine was good. So perhaps it is hit and miss. Given the price, however, will not return."

  • "Pomme is a gem in the heart of downtown Clayton on Central Ave. Dinner was EXCELLENT. My wife who is a picky eater decided to be bold and try the Norwegian style Sole. It was outstanding. The sauce was light but very tasty. I had the sirloin with red and green peppers and it was excellent. The dessert of chocolate cake was the perfect finish. Our waiter was personable and prompt. All very well done."

  • "The restaurant is small and charming. Our server was just superb, he knew the menu well and was helpful. The food was delicious. The vegetable pasta was excellent, loaded with wild mushrooms. The wall eye fish was delicate and prepared very well. The flour less chocolate cake was fabulous. The one, small disappointment was the bread. Thank you Pomme for a great night"

  • "Pomme always delights. Food is always outstanding. Last Friday night, we had the entrees of duck and tenderloin. That wa unusual because obe of us nealry always orders the fish special because fish is one if the chef's best specialties; fish at Pomme is prepared better than most anywhere you can try in St. Louis. The service is always professional - helpful, understated. And the wines are exceptional value -- we had the bordeaux and it was sublime. You cannot miss at Pomme."

  • "We made dinner reservations through Open Table more than a week in advance. The woman who greeted us nevertheless could find no record of our reservation on her handwritten reservations list. Despite the fact that the restaurant was nearly empty, she refused to seat us until she checked with someone in the back and then seated us at one of the worst tables in the restaurant. There were no apologies even after I showed her my email confirmation. We were given menus and a wine folder missing the wine list and ignored for a while. Unfortunately, the mixed quality of our food did not make up for the marginal service we received. St. Louis has much better restaurants."

The wait staff were knowledgeable about the food and the wine. Pasta was truly portional - not over the top like some STL Italian places. "
