I had the bass for dinner. I found it boring and tasteless. The service was a little slow. but o.k. if you just wanted to sit and chat. But I would go somewhere else next time

I went to Pomaire because I saw the $14.95 lunch price on the Menupages website, but when I got there, they had a sign advertising a $24.95 prix-fixe menu. I asked twice about the online price (before we sat down and again when the hostess/waitress gave us the menu) and she kept answering "yes" when I asked if the lunch price was $14.95. Apparently, she didn't understand English, because the check came for $24.95 each and she insisted that was the price. We would not have gone there for a $24.95 prix-fixe pre-theater lunch with most of the other restaurants on Restaurant Roe offering lowere-priced specials. My friend and I were the only ones in the restaurant the entire time! Now we know why.

We loved this restaurant. The food was excellent, the service was gracious and perfectly timed, the portions were perfect (moderate--not humongous and not miserly--just right) and the owner, as others have said, goes around the room and engages his guests in conversation. We will go back for sure.

Good wine, delicious food and pleasant service. An enjoyable pre-theater experience. One problem --they were out of several menu items. We were there at a prime time -Saturday evening so it seemed strange they were out of several items --and the menu is not large to begin with. But we ordered around the missing items and enjoyed our meal very much.

Good choice for pre-theatre. But it gets crowded and noisy. The owner is very attentive, although service in general can be a little slow. He is very interested in creating a repeate clientele and very hands on as a result. It's a nice spot, one we've been to more than once before a play.

Second visit was rather disappointing. Had to ask the waiter to see the Prix Fixe menu that had been advertised in the restaurant window and that was a different menu from the one that was given to us. Prix fixe food was mediocre at best (chicken was dry&salmon portion was scanty). Waiter was obviously disappointed that we did not order more wine. Desserts varied in quality from a heavy apple pudding with a paucity of apples to a delicious chocolate cake, which was the best thing on the menu. I suspect that the food on the regular menu is a lot better but am not sure that I can persuade my wife to return there, given the plethora of better choices in the same price range in NYC.
