Food was excellant and service
attentive. Only negative was that service was a little too quick. Pace could have been more relaxed."

Polpo is my father's favorite
restaruant so I requested his favorite spot - the room next to the bar on the first floor. I requested it via open table and then again on the phone the same day - I was told they would try but it wasn't guaranteed. Not only were we not seated in the room next to the bar - we were put in the very back room on the second floor. This room was empty - absolutely no ambiance. It felt like the mediocre Italian restaurant down the street - dated and tired tacky decor on walls with crumbly looking walls and lurking waiters. The waiters were rude - lurking, not giving us time to figure out our order, trying to rush our dinner. I was extremely disappointed and will not be back any time soon."

Very good neighborhood
restaurant--great for any day but particularly for a Friday or Saturday dinner to recover from the week and set you up for the weekend. lively scene and food and service are always great. Stay downstairs."

Went Here on Valentines Day, What
a Giant Mistake. 1st of all we were seated at 915 for our 830 reservations, which we arrived at 815 for. 2nd, the restaurant offered no sorts of apology complimentary beverage or anything for the additional 45 min wait. 3rd we were rushed through our meal, my girlfriend requested some appetizers to start because she was very hungry and the waiter rudley said, i'll come when your whole order is ready, we're to busy to take appetizers first. Possibly the worst Service ever, took another 45 min to bring us our food, the food was good but nothing special, but the terirble service already left a bitter taste in my mouth. I work in Greenwich and will be sure to NEVER recommend this place to any of my co-workers."
Dined on 2/14/2014
I arrived 15mins before my
reservation and was told to wait at the bar, my table would be ready shortly. During my 45 minute wait at the bar I was approached several times by three different maitre 'ds with three different waiting lists. My name went on each list multiple times, meanwhile, the number of people waiting at the bar continued to grow. Finally, I angrily approached the podium and told them if I'm not seated in 5 minutes I would be leaving. They were not nice about it, but we were seated and enjoyed a nice meal and a complimentary after dinner drink. This restaurant has been around for a long time, unfortunately, they handled a busy evening like a bunch of amateurs."

Excellent dinner as always ! Had
the short ribs OMG !!! Risotto was also excellent !!! Great night out !!"

My husband and I had a quiet table
in the corner. The food was outstanding. (lamb chops and chicken parmesan) Perfectly lovely, romantic Valentine's Dinner."

Polpo will always be our favorite
spot....we meet there..got engaged at the same table. The service,,,food and atmosphere is always perfect. You are never rushed no matter how busy they are."
Dined on 2/14/2014
We ordered the boulliabasse, the
lobster was dead when it was cooked. The meat in the tail and the claw was mushy and stuck the the shell. We mentioned it to the person who cleaned our table, he pointed to a bunch of dead looking lobster sitting on ice. This gentleman was one of four who stand around and help out, it was a little strange. The scallops are also very bad quality. For a seafood restaurant they do not serve good quality seafood."

A great night out with friends. We
had an upstairs table So it was a little quieter to talk. Delicious food, but Quite pricey."

ambiance. love, love, love it."

Had a so-so meal at Polpo a month
ago, but my wife and I have had so many great meals there over the years, we went back. And it was great. The Captain even remembered that we were not happy at our last outing, and made it up to us in a nice way. Branzino (always good here), fresh Salmon (ditto) and Calves Liver were all judged superb by our party. Service very good, but seems to lag a bit when the owner, Ron Rosa, departs which he sometimes does later in the evening. The decor and atmosphere is very inviting. You can eat in the bar, but that can be pretty noisy early in the evening. By the way, any guy by himself during the week, will find eating at the bar a great experience. Love it."
Dined on 12/13/2013
Our first table was next to an
incredibly noisy group...but we were moved quickly. Lunch was delicious, the service helpful and attentive. My only complaint: the line for "captain" on the credit card slip. I'm happy to tip for service received...but too many extended palms is offensive."

I have been eating at Polpo
regularly and have never had anything but a wonderful meal. I was there to celebrate my birthday with my teenagers who were treated fabulously. We all loved our dining experience!"
Dined on 11/27/2013
food was very good but it took
almost 1 hour before our order was taken."
Dined on 11/22/2013
Going to the bar at Polpo's for a
late supper couldn't have been more pleasant: well-mixed cocktail, fresh, tasty salad, half-portion of excellent pasta, and a glass of classic chianti. That's one version of heaven-on-earth!"
Dined on 11/7/2013
Where should I begin. We had a
6:00pm reservation and when we showed up they told us they could not seat us to wait in the bar. Mind you, the entire restaurant was empty besides two tables. Then, when they did seat us, they did so in the bar....strike two. We asked to be moved. I've been to many poorly managed restaurants in my life, but this one takes the cake. I thought the wait staff was rehearsing for a Saturday Night live skit. Complete incompetence and rudeness to say the least. The wait staff seem completely confused the entire night and got several orders at our table incorrect. They also screwed up the orders at the table next to us. And...the restaurant was for the most part empty when we ordered. The food was ok."
Dined on 10/12/2013
Poor service! if ur upstairs, it's
worst. food temperature so inconsistent....husband dish came out cold and then last night my GF entre was unbearable...if ur there @6pm & ur dining downstairs, they rush you! every 2 mins, they asked if you are ready to order. different waiter arrives, ask if your ready. I was not even finished with my appetizer, muscles, which i still have 5 left to eat and the waiter asked if i'm finished, i'm like no, i'm still eating, horrible! overpriced 2b rushing anyone out of their restaurant so they can turn the table....the last thing i want is 2b rushed out of a restaurant when i have made plans w/friends to enjoy an evening out. 2many restaurants 2choose from. WE R NEVER going back!"

Polpo is great, one of
Connecticut's finest restaurants, highly recommended. Fabulous food, famous faces, great crowd, busy bar, live music, and lot's of fun."
Dined on 10/13/2013
Good food, good service, great
ambiance.........can"t ask for more"
Dined on 10/12/2013
Fun atmosphere, neat spot, cool
bar, but food below average."
Dined on 10/6/2013
Although the food and service were
excellent, our table was extremely close to the other tables and the patrons were so loud that we literally couldn't hear each other, so we cut the night short and left. I would recommend you sit outside if the weather is nice. It was quiet in that area. Also, when you are given the check, along with it comes a suggested tip of $4.00 for the valet, as well as a tip for the waiter and captain! I find that to be obnoxious."
Dined on 10/6/2013
Polpo's usually does everything
just right - fabulous food, attentive, personal service - but they were so busy this Saturday night that both appetizer and main dish orders were botched. No big deal - they corrected them very quickly and the results were as good as usual."
Dined on 10/5/2013
I must say this will be the worst
review I have ever given. I am ashamed to explain the terrible attitude tonight. To start we were sat perfectly and were then basically attacked to order our drinks and dinner. No big deal. There. Wife's Cosmo was so poor like fruit juice. My was fine. Salads were so in dressing and couldn't eat. The manager or owner then screamed so loud at the waiters to get a table ready and then through the table to make it bounce on the floor. How unnerving that was. Dover sole was good. The chicken campanula was the worst dish I think I ever had.soaked in butter and oil an inch high. I had two bites. Then the waiter and manager never came near me. They knew it was so bad. Never said a word. Neither did I. Disgraceful"
Dined on 10/5/2013
Love the ambience but the food
quality needs help. The Penne was undercooked and vodka sauce somewhat bland. My veal parmigiana was soggy. The parts that were still crisp were delicious but they topped it with a runny marinara that pooled water on the plate making the entire meal mushy....such a disappointment. This was my first time there and unless my girlfriend insists we go back it is very doubtful I will return. I had high hopes for a better experience and was left wanting..."
Dined on 10/4/2013
From start to finish this was
awful. One of my guests walked with difficulty with a cane, yet we were seated upstairs at top where we were bumped by other patrons walking by. The servers kept changing throughout the meal. It was hard to get anyone's attention. When we mentioned a severe food allergy, the server mocked us for coming to Polpo (he actually said "why would you come here then?") The tomato and mozzarella starter was overwhelmed by truffle oil and the flavors were really odd. The filet mignon was so over-peppered so as to be inedible. I would never go back. Over-rated, over-priced, tired, incongruent decor, weird layout, servers who seem to not really care. With so many great CT restaurants around, bypass this one."
Dined on 9/22/2013
We arrived a few minutes early for
our 7:30 reservation. Without asking us whether we wanted to sit outside or not, we were taken to a table on a terrace. It was too cold for me and I told the hostess this would NOT do. We were then seated upstairs in a corner. There was lots of traffic and the room had NO AMBIANCE. The beets in the beet salad was listed as roasted beets; they were canned (with no taste). My husband's appetizer came out wrong and the correct item was brought. The complimentary eggplant puree was terribly spicy and hot. Our fish dish was small but good. The downstairs seating looked lovely and charming. Sitting upstairs with bare walls and food that was just OK wasn't my idea of the best restaurant in Greenwich."
Dined on 9/22/2013
We have eaten here several times
and it usually is pretty consistent. This time, however, I found that the dishes were a bit too peppery and spicy. I had to send back my great branzino because it was too spicy for me. Otherwise, it was a wonderful piece os fresh fish. I will definitely go back, but I will make sure that I mention the spiciness in advance."
Dined on 9/28/2013
We enjoyed a drink at the bar,
which was great... busy, music, nice vibe. That's where it ended unfortunately, We were then taken to a table in a back room that had no atmosphere whatsoever, and the service was poor. It seemed like an after thought in comparison to the bar and other room in the restaurant. The food was fair, no music could be heard,,,it was just a drab room, sort of closet-esque."
Dined on 9/21/2013
Very disappointing apparently our
waiter was a trainee? Staff was in conflict with each other food was just okay. Table was terrible and we left ASAP after eating about half of very generous portions of pasta. This used to be a place we would think about going to on special occasions; now we probably will not return again. To top it all off, the valet service took the headlights on our CRV off automatic which we did not notice and so the next morning, since the lights were on all night, we were lucky it started!"
Dined on 9/12/2013
Always very good. Usually very
busy. On real busy nights, if you're not a usual your table and service is lacking. Did see Judge Judy and her husband there."
Dined on 9/2/2013
We took the occasion of a warm
summer night to sit outside on the front patio. The setting was nice, the food was okay but not fantastic. Unfortunately, the service was not very warm. Aloof to the point of indignant, it seemed as if each person from the waiter to the sommelier (or whoever that was) was just waiting for someone more important or beautiful to show up. More power to them if they can fill their tables with their inner circle (which they did not do on this weekend evening), but we will head elsewhere."

Loved the mealband terrace dining.
Staff attentive. Food outstanding."

Great food, excellent service,
super consistent over time."

I went here for my birthday this
week and had a wonderful meal! The food and service was spectacular. The only downside was that there was a table full of cigar and cigarette smokers next to us and their smoke kept getting blown at us during the meal. There was a large fan in the outdoor dining area that brought the smoke over to most of the tables. We ended up switching tables and had a much more pleasant meal after the move. The staff was very understanding and accomodating."

Jammed on a Saturday night. We
were sat exactly on time. Excellent dinner all around. Seafood risotto was delicious. Salads were fresh and tasty."

I'm a Corporate Meeting Manager
and just introduced Polpo to some out of town hotel partners. They fell in love with Polpo. Food, service, ambiance all 5++ stars. Service amazing! I'm extremely picky due to the nature of my work so a good review is worth it's weight in gold. I only wish I lived closer because Polpo would be my home away from home. Thank you for doing what you do so well!!"

What a great night, service was
amazing and the food was great. Was a bit loud towards the end but still a great night......"
Dined on 7/21/2013
The food, across the board with
fish, veal, duck was absolutely delicious, every single bite. However the surly, arrogant waiter in his sloppy mismatched navy suit jacket and black pants, that were in sore need of cleaning, had an attitude longer than the daily specials. We were barely seated when he wanted to take our order. All very rushed and gruff. I felt as if Frank's bodyguard was waiting on me, rather than a trained, professional waiter. His back up waiter had equally zero people skills and was attired in a similar greasy looking outfit. If you can ignore the staff and the "very tired" conditions of this restaurant and just focus on the food you will have an enjoyable dining experience."
Dined on 6/30/2013
It took us some time to find this
charming little restaurant , but it was worth the effort. Service, food, ambiance was great, and we enjoyed our waiter. Would go again. Use your gps!!"
