The staff was gracious and helpful in making arrangements for a special 50th birthday party with friends. The waiter provided great service and the food was terrific. Guests were allowed to mingle and enjoy appetizers and wine with no pressure to rush into dinner. A fantastic evening. Love dining with local entrepreneurs. We'll be back.

We were the only customers and service was good, but could have been great. The staff was nice. The food prices are reasonable on the menu, but then the cost of the food goes up once you receive your small than normal portion sized meal. The place looked nice and was comfortable; however.

With a 3 yr old, this place is great. Offers gluten-free pastas for my daughter. Has a decent wine selection. Good prices. Great outdoor area even though it's on a busy street. Good service. They are never very busy so they often don't have some items on the menu which is a bit frustrating but we continue to go back for the consistently good food and gelato :)

The food was well-seasoned. I got their take on mozzarella sticks which had a very light and fluffy cheesy filling. It wasn't the type to be just a stick of cheese that will stretch as you eat it. The lasagna was delicious and the right portion size. I appreciated that they were also able to split the appetizer price between the group in 1/4's !!!

Met my wife and a friend for dinner. I had bell peppers stuffed with crab and shrimp, excellent. Wife had spaghetti and meatballs, excellent especially the meat balls. Our friend had grilled salmon, good sized and thick salmon steak, excellent. Less than $100.00 for the three of us. Will be going back.

I came here with my girlfriend to celebrate Valentine's day. I needed a place with a good atmosphere, good quality delicious food, and a romantic setting. This place was amazing, I highly recommend the Salmon. The waitress was so nice, checked up on us, and explained everything clearly. I would be prepared to spend some cash but it was worth every penny because we had a great time together and this place made our Valentine's day the best yet!

We had a very nice, affordable Valentine's Day dinner at Polovina. Although the place was full, our waitress was very attentive. My Chicken Marsala and his Chicken Piccata were very good. Had to cancel a previous reservation at another restaurant who chose to scalp diners with a prix fixe meal even though the menu site didn't state that; of course, there are lots of other restaurants who do that---just because they can. Love this pretty little gem!

I took my mother here for her birthday and we enjoyed the food plus the drinks. Service was quite well. We tried a cannelloni dessert with some type of filling and it was really gross. It tasted like plastic. The waitress said it was the most popular dessert on the menu. Overall, I recommend the other dishes on the menu and it's perfect for a date!

Some friends and I visited Polovina this past weekend for a friend's birthday dinner. The food was excellent and we really enjoyed the BYOB factor! While we were dining we found out about their Sunday brunches. Therefore, we went back on Sunday for brunch to enjoy the $1 mimosas and $1 poinsettias! However, they were out of champagne and their delicious lobster bisque, so we ended up leaving. We'll give them another chance on brunch though because our dinner experience was so great!

I brought my family to Polovina Cafe to carb load for the Houston Marathon this year. I had a reservation for 6:30 and we had to wait for a good 5-10 minutes until we had a table. The service was ok, the place was packed and they were understaffed. The food was good and the waitress was working as hard as she could. Overall it was good.

We made reservations for Christmas. The pasta took 2.5 hours to arrive and was cold the waiter apologized, as did the manager , stating that had lots of call ins. I would have expected the manager to jump into the kitchen and help not just tell us not to order pizza because it was taking extra time. They were out of the first three types of wine we requested. We picked this because of prior ratings and since it was the first night of our vacation wanted a great Italian place. They also didn't even recognize the Christmas drink specials advertised on the web. My advice until they improve staffing don't waste your time or money.

We were in the mood for Italian so based on others' reviews, we chose Polovina Italian Cafe. It was a pretty quiet night because right before Christmas. I have to say that the food was a bit disappointing--nothing spectacular, both pasta dishes were okay. The service was friendly and there are outdoor tables if weather permits. If we lived in the neighborhood, I could see us going more often to try more of the dishes and having a nice glass of wine outside but with so many other Italian restaurants, I probably wouldn't make a special trip here again.

Among the frenetic pace of Washington Avenue is this unpretentious casual Italian cafe. The food was as expected because we had seen some nice reviews by prior visitors. We had a nice pizza with goat cheese as an appetizer and it was great. The entrees were equally good. Service was a bit slow but it was a busy night. Many folks seated outside on the street which you can only do on rare evenings in Houston. The carrot cake which we had for dessert was not up to the quality of the other dishes. Reasonably priced. I would recommend and will try again.

My husband was looking for a new place to try and suggested Polovino. We were pleasantly surprised; first by the extensive menu. We started with sausage and peppers and when we asked that the sausage not be sliced they were accommodating. He had rigatoni bolognese with extra sauce and I had a delicious thin crust pizza. We shared an outstanding gelato to end the meal. Parking was plentiful. We would definitely return.

We visited Polovina Italian Cafe for Mother's Day brunch. I don't think they usually serve brunch, so the staff seemed a little unprepared and confused. There was something wrong/missing from every one of the six meals we ordered. The food was okay, but I don't think brunch is their specialty. The restaurant is really cute and has a lot of specialty cheeses, meats, wine and gelato. I think the atmosphere would be perfect for a casual Italian dinner. I hope to try Polovina's for dinner the next time I'm in Houston and hopefully the service will be better this time around.

I looked all over town for a restaurant that would take a large reservation during the lunch hours, and took a chance on the Polovina Italian Cafe. We had a wonderful experience! The table was ready when we arrived. The food was served timely and everyone seemed to enjoy their meal. The very best part though was that we were able to enjoy a leisurely meal, never felt hurried, nor ignored. This was a family event - a graduation - and we all wanted to catch up with each other. The service was great and there was always someone catering to our needs. We ordered Calamari for an appetizer and it was a large enough amount to share between the 4 of us. We next all ordered salads and mine ( a cesaer) was delicious. We all shared margarita pizzas and i have to say that they were probaly one of the best i have ever had. They are cooked in a brick oven and you can watch them cook your pizza. 2 pizzas was more than enough to share between 4 girls. I will definitely come back here soon.
