  • "Absolutely terrible! The server took forever to first approach our table and left us quickly and never asked if we would like to order a drink as we looked for our dinner options. We looked the menu for at least 10 min, she finally returned, we asked one question as to one menu item, she abruptly answered, turned around and walked away! We still were not able to order a glass of wine or any other items. We finally asked the bus boy if he could get us another waiter, then she returned. Her behavior was astonishingly rude, didn't apologize or take our order for food or drinks, she just walked away again! I have no idea how this place ever got a good rating, suppose the food might be great but we never got a chance to even try, we left!"

  • "The food was delicious, as always. Each dish was very tasty, from the Dungeness crab salad, two kinds of pasta, and a pizza. And all were made with delicious fresh vegetables carrying the healthful kiss of spring! Poggio is unique and wonderful and a must when visiting Sausalito. The outdoor dining at the sidewalk tables is a pleasure, with tulips blooming in the planters and the active street scene at hand, with the bay across the street."

  • "Magnificent Italian cuisine. I met my girlfriends there for lunch on a weekday. It was quiet and food was fabulous and fresh...but the minestra soup was perfectly prepared with a light broth, chickpeas and butter beans and just the right amount of chard. Pappardelle with clams were also perfectly prepared with the freshest clams. We shared a delicious soft, rich Bonet for dessert. Street parking was easy and we even had time to do some shopping. Love this place."

  • "We've been going to Poggio for years and there was a little dip in quality a few years ago but now back up with no complaints at this visit. The trippa was delicious - spicy from the chorizo, nice char/caramelization of the meat and sauce, tripe was chewy/tender. My first course of asparagus, fried egg and prosciutto, parmesan grans was very good. My friend's grilled artichoke with basil aioli was also excellent."

  • "Waited too long for food. Told the waiter that my wife was gluten free, and the dish came with bread on top. Took it back to the serving area, they removed the bread and brought it back. She wouldn't take it and they made a new dish. The waiter did not check on us once the initial order was in. And, we were right next to the serving and service area. Which was way too noisy with servers. And, waiters kept bumping into my chair."

  • "As locals we have frequented Poggio since it opened -- for dinner with friend, for business lunches, etc. Sometimes meals have been fantastic. Sometimes very good. But increasingly they have been just okay. Wednesday's meal, with our Chicago-area daughter and her family was just okay. Even our 9 and 12 year old grandkids, who were in from Chicago and had memories of fantastic meals at Poggio from past visits, were disappointed. Service is excellent. The decor is excellent. But variable food quality is not."

  • "I was meeting an old friend I hadn't seen in years, and I wanted to be sure of the restaurant, so I chose Poggio. We were not disappointed. I appreciate the valet parking, since the meter maids in Sausalito are legendary, and I knew this was gonna be a looooog lunch. Food was great--I love the "hens in the woods" mushroom pizza! Our server was professional--and very patient as we lingered on and on. You really can't go wrong with Poggio."

  • "The four of us thought the two salads, beet and burrata, were excellent. One of our party thought the pancetta pizza he ordered was one of the best pizzas he'd ever had. The mezzalune and agnolotti pastas were delicious. The papardelle was very good, but I've had better. It's a fairly noisy restaurant, but we were able to carry on a conversation. The only negative was the bossy and overbearing attitude of the waiter."

Poggio put us at a big round table in the center of the room - it was great for 8 - no holes in the conversation groups, but it could also be expanded to 10 they said. Eventually 12 people showed up. We kept adding chairs and table settings. Poggio was gracious about helping us with our ever-expanding group. We had great food and service and overall just a wonderful evening."

  • "We took the ferry to Sausalito - friends out for lunch. We'd never been to Poggio and certainly never expected, despite rave reviews, to be absolutely stunned by how delicious every (really every) aspect of the meal was. We all had thoughtfully prepared (healthy) and gorgeously present starters and each of us was reduced to blissful silence by our various entrees. I had gnudi (ricotta and spinach gnocchi) over a sumptuous beef ragu - the dish was swoon-worthy! Portions are point on perfect and we felt so fortunate and well-fed that we could't resist dessert. The panna cotta with berries was silken and sumptuous. Arriving with no expectations, we instead found ourselves enjoying one of the best meals any of us could remember. Heaven."

We sat at a round table and shared four types of delicious apperizers, plus an entree of tasty spaghetti and meatballs and a canoli for dessert. Service was very good and a good time was had by all. The menu of these dinners changes monthly. We will be back in April!"

  • "My man and I used to go to Poggio quite often, but with all the wonderful new dining options in Marin, it had been awhile since we'd gone. We went back last Friday, March 7, for dinner, and it was like spending time with comfortable, warm, and convivial family friends. Familiar and new faces among the staff, but the guests were almost 100% strangers -- and it still felt like coming home. It's a feeling of being always welcome, and of being enveloped in positivity. We will be back again very soon. Highly recommended."

  • "We arrived early and exhausted from hiking Muir Woods. Staff allowed us to leave a phone to charge while we ambled about town. They seated us 45 minutes early while we waited for our guests. Our waitress was warm, fun and knowledgeable about the wine and food. She recommended one of the best wines I've tasted in years. Food was excellent, especially my seafood stew. I'd go back in a quick minute."

  • "For first-timers, that menu is too cluttered and confusing. We had to ask the waiter for descriptions of the dishes even though I had visited the website before we went. The waiter seemed hesitant to recommend dishes, but was able to describe them when asked to do so. I had the quail, which was done well, though the polenta was mushy and a bit tasteless. My husband said the chicken was too dry and both of us agreed that the potatoes au gratin tasted like it was frozen or old. The best thing I had was the tiramisu; second best the gnudi. I liked the fact that the waiter let us decide where to begin with our order rather than starting with the wine since my husband doesn't drink wine and I get one glass. Service was appropriate."

Your server was very friendly and suggested a couple of first courses that were delicious. Don't think I will wait for a special occasion to go back, it was truly a delight!"

  • "This restaurant is located in one the bay areas finest hotels, the Casa Madrona. That being said it is not owned or operated by the hotel. The ambience is outstanding and that's where my praise ends. The menu is boring and the service is lousy. It's a Sausalito neighborhood hang out and unless you're a member of that neighborhood the wait staff & management is dismissing of all other patrons."

  • "The creative Italian food was delicious, as always. The always changing menu offers a variety of options for everyone at the table. And the dining room is lovely. The only slight flaw was the service. Our server struggled to keep up with the needs of our table and those around us. The bussers could have helped her more but moved at a leisurely pace. But we will be back, especially for special occasions."
