I have wanted to vistit Po for years. Finally got to take a friend for lunch on a beautiful fall day. We were a group of four and everyone was pleased with thier selections. The restaruant was not packed, which worked in our favor. Lovely, attentive wait staff. Delicious well prepared food. Amazing dessert! Great overall dining experience. Look forward to returning.

  • We went on restaurant week.

We went on restaurant week. The lunch was quite nice. We chose the main course of skate and chicken breast. Both main courses were excellent. The first course salads were fine. The only disappointment was the desserts. The chocolate terrine looked like a chocolate bar, and was very heavy and rich, while the cinnamon on the mint ice cream was just overwhelming.

In the 90's Mario Batali was a co-owner and it was impossible to get a table, a 30 day in advance wait and just try getting through the busy signal on the phone. The food was amazing, the prices decent. 15 years later, not so much. It was like crickets when we went and embarrassingly mediocre. I believe we were the only dinner table there which made it more awkward. I have had many great meals here through the years, even when Mario bailed,, and talked this place up to my spouse who had never been. We both agreed we could check this off of our list of must-visit restaurants.

Last ate here when Mario Batali still worked in the kitchen - he has since sold his interest in the restaurant. Still found the food fresh, flavorful and well-presented, with casual but attentive service. Our pasta and fish dishes were all fresh and flavorfull; simple, rustic Italian. Place was very loud even at 2pm on a rainy weekday, but I'd still come back.

The food here is always superb. It's a tiny place with tables very close together (but that can make it fun to meet others). My only objection, and it's why I rarely go there, is the noise level. Even at an isolated table in an alcove, we regretted not bringing earplugs.

Perfect for a weekday or weekend lunch. Great menu choices - from salads, unusual panini, pastas and main courses. So much better than the usual brunch egg-based type menus.

Po was a good lunch spot. The standout was the duck slopy joe panini, absolutley fantastic. I was however very dissapointed in my pasta dish, the gnocchi- it was overcooked and very heavy. My boyfirends pasta special was not much better being highly over salted. The desserts were a hit and miss. The mint gelato we had was outstanding but the chocolate tore we ordered was stale tasting and looked old. When you spend over $200 at lunch you really dont want to walk away having anything negetive to say about your experience, especially about the food. But we love Mario Batali and will give Po another chance...if only for those sloppy joes!

My sister took me there for a birthday lunch and it was terrific. She had eggs which she loved and I had the tuna sandwich (seared tuna) on rustic bread with olive tapenade and a side salad that comes with it. The sandwich was huge. I ended up not eating all the bread because it was too much and instead had it open-face style. Service was very good and everyone was accommodating. I have already recommended it to several people.

Our party of four had a wonderful dinner here tonight. We focused on the antipasti, insalata, Primi, and, Contorni portion of the menu, never making it to the Secondi. And why would you when they even note that there pasta is their trademark. To start, the (free) white bean bruschetta just set the stage: simple elegance. As I read other reviews of Po, it seems many folks who have been critical have palates that need food 'shock'. Po really let's the ingredients shine and does not over-season (and certainly does not over-salt) their food. Just great, simply seasoned but wonderfully conceived and flavored dishes.

A cute nice small restaurant with plenty of neighborhood patrons. Great to have a nice lunch place in the west village. Nice fresh ingredients, nicely balanced flavors in beet salad app and pear salad app. Scrambled eggs with pancetta was light and tasty, not too salty. Lamb paillard panini was very flavorful. Attentive wait staff, big italian wine list, reasonably priced.

Still delicious after all these years, though has lost of bit of its luster. Nearly impossible to score a dinner table, but lunch seating is delight - you have the place to yourselves. Lunch menu can be hit or miss - stick with the panni or primi. Papadelle with peas and mint is lovey. The grilled octopus on the other hand was nearly inedible - like charred rubber.

We actually showed up a day early for our reservation but the staff kindly seated us. Our waiter was wonderful - let us try a couple of the wines so that we could decide which one we wanted. My husband and I both had specials - shrimp for me and fish for him - and they were delicious. The waiter suggested a dessert and it was also wonderful. A very small, nice place for dinner. Our dinner was about $100 and, considering that we spent $42 on pizza and two beers the next night, it was a bargain for NYC!

    OpenTable Diner Since 2011
    Dined on 2/10/2012
Po is a great place - still. When I say this, it may be a that over the years our tastes got so much more developed and sophisticated that Po is not as exciting as it once was. It is solid and classy, but when the little toast and beans that you get as a greeting from the restaurant is more flavorful than your main course - that tells you that restaurant is becoming conservative. You won't be disappointed, but neither you will be thrilled.

Came here as part of restaurant week as had never hear of it before. The place is small but the service was not. Came early and unlike most restaurants the table was already waiting and they offered me a choice of a couple tables. I chose the table to the right of the door which is nice small nook perfect for a private night. The food does not break any grounds for creativity as no nitrogen used on menu. The food was simply prepared from fresh ingredients. Service was attentive without being hovering or pushy. The guinea hen was a bit different then expected as they pulled it off the bone and seasoned it like a steak which tasted fine but was not what the person I was with was wanting. Will definitely come back for another meal.
