PloufYum!I went specifically for the mussels. They were great but I recommend sharing, the broths are very rich.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMWe got totally PLOUFED!My husband and I usually do our own reviews but we agree on this one!. PLOUF was a fabulous place for lunch and we were so stuffed when we left we just said we had been PLOUFED! The size of the muscle pots that they served us were amazing, next time we could probably order just one. Salads and wine list was great and service was quick, which is great for lunch in the city. We have been here for the fixed price menu in DINE ABOUT TOWN which was also fantastic. Great spot for lunch, dinner or happy hour if you like french sea food. It also reminds you of Belgium too!6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMPlouf Pleases...again!This was our fourth or fifth visit, and is our go-to for guests who like sea food. The mussels are excellent (always my choice), and our friends rave about the other dishes. The desserts are magical!6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMBaited by Restaurant week...HOOKED!Checked out Plouf on Saturday night, enticed by the restaurant week prix fixe menu and $36.95 price tag. Having already dined on cookout comfort food and not having the requirement of a heavy evening meal, I leaned toward this french cuisine. The bacon crusted sole atop sweet white corn was prepared perfectly, the saltiness of the bacon complementing the sweetness of the corn nicely. I enjoyed the poire bella helene (pear soaked in wine, served over ice cream with whipped cream) for dessert.
I did have a chance to glance at the standard menu and, while short, it seemed intriguing enough to give this place a second look, especially the next time the weather is nice and I can dine outside.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMWe have been to Plouf twiceWe have been to Plouf twice in our trip to the bay. 6 types of Mussel preparations. Great vibe ,great fun.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic service and menu.Fantastic service and menu. Special gem in San Francisco.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and atmosphereEating at Plouf reminds me of being back in Paris. Patio tables right next to each other, talking from table to table. Food was excellent, I always enjoy the Plouf mussels. The fresh crab was very good, although we did have to ask them to take it back and crack it so that it wouldn't be all over us. They were very accommodating in doing that. Overall a very enjoyable evening out.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMOverall, we had a nice timeOverall, we had a nice time at Plouf and would recommend it. We enjoyed our food and in particular very much enjoyed the mussels. Having the option to dine indoors or outdoors was quite welcome.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMHidden GemTucked away on Belden Street, Plouf was an exceptional evening of dining. The mussels and clams combo were delicious as was the Coc au Vin my daughter had. Natallia was very attentive without being annoying. All the staff made us feel very welcome we would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant to our friends. A memorable experience!5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMFrench waiter was the greatest!Mussels and clams were OMG goodness, but the entire dinner was elevated to a fabulous dining experience because of our French waiter. He was charismatic, charming, and absolutely delightful. I would go back just so we could be served by him. There were 7 of us on Saturday 5/18, we ended the meal with him choosing our 7 desserts and he brought out a superb selection of 7 different goodies, all wonderful. Thank you Plouf for having such great food and especially, a great waiter!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat night outGreat place if you want to feel like you're not in the city at all... Sit outside, have a nice bottle of wine and relax. the muscles were the highlight... Food was good, wine delicious and service was very attentive yet not annoying. I'd bring visitors back any time!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMMusselsGreat mussels and fries at a reasonable price. The mains are a bit expensive but very nice. Steak was great.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMexcellent French bistroDining under the awning on the Plouf patio reminded me of similar experiences in France. The metal patio furniture was a bit awkward at first (subtracted a star from ambience), but we settled in and had a great time. The waiter made excellent wine suggestions. The baguette was a little chewy but as soon as we commented, the waiter had it heated to crisp perfection. I started with the Poulette Mussels, and the serving size was easily large enough for a full meal. Then I had the duck breast with cabbage and potatoes, which was fabulous. My mousse was decadently delicious. Plouf is a must for any fan of French bistro food.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMUpscale alley charmSearched the internet for a business lunch location in the Bush & Montgomery area and found several restaurants in the alley of Belden Place off Bush Street. Plouf proved to be the right choice for us. Slightly more upscale decor relative to it's neighboring restaurants. I found the area to be fun and will definitely go back. We sat inside for a more business-like experience. Superb service. Formal, attentive but not overwhelming and lots of personality. The whole staff made us feel like it was their pleasure to serve us. I felt like a welcomed guest. Food was good too.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMYumThe mussels were terrific. The waiter kept the bread basket full so we were able to keep soaking up the delicious broth.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMPlouf is the Best...our friends from out fo town love it...and we took our frieds from Buenos Ares and France, there
when they return to SF, they will make a point of returning to Plouf, also5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMserviceToo few servers on at lunch time so had to rush the server for our bill, but otherwise very good.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food - slow billThe food was excellent, but it took almost a half hour to get the check. The desserts were extremely good.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMSunday night was quiet enoughSunday night was quiet enough to find free parking on the street! There were few people at Plouf, and we would have liked a larger table, as the tiny one got very crowded once our plates arrived.
The mussels were terrific, as were the fries.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMas usual, the mussels andas usual, the mussels and frites were the best ever! good service, lively atmosphere & reasonable prices makes diners return4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMIn town for business and PloufIn town for business and Plouf was recommended. Great atmosphere, very good food and great service. The menu selection was on the shorter side but with a decent selection.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMFelt like we were transportedFelt like we were transported to Europe, the accent of the French waitress helped. Divine food.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food and good ambience.Good food and good ambience. We arrived a little early and were seated almost immediately. A good evening for a mixed part of adults and young adults. Would come again.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was delicious but slow to comeThe mussels were fabulous, as was the salmon. My only complaint was how long it took to get our food. We were there for more than an hour and half - not because we were lingering but because it took so long for the food to come. There was a very long wait to get our appetizers and an equally long wait after the appetizers to get our main courses. Given that there are so many business people having lunch there, I would have thought the timing would be more tailored to a business lunch crowd.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMSat by the fireplace. TheSat by the fireplace. The Moules Meurniere were excellent as was my endive salad. Sometimes it is too noisy for good conversation but since it was relatively empty the day I was there it wasn't too bad. Being a Francophile I love the French atmosphere, accents and food.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMLike being back in FranceWe love this place. The area where it is, is like being back in Europe on a nice spring evening. We especially enjoy the Moules with a side of Frittes and of course bread to dip with too. Enjoy a nice bottle of Pinot from France and you could be in a small French village. Have eaten there many times, but would particularly recommend the above.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMHave been to Plouf many timesHave been to Plouf many times and each time I visit, whether for lunch, dinner or drinks, I appreciate how the restaurant has maintained its level of friendly, helpful service and wonderful food through all these years. On a cool evening we sat outside under heaters and slurped down appetizers then, mussels in a heavenly marinere broth with frites and wine for our main course. Yum!4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMThe mussels were fabulous. The mussels were fabulous. One of the best meals I have ever had.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMA very pleasant French orientedA very pleasant French oriented restaurant with an emphasis on fish. Food was tasty, service was pleasant. Great again!3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMPlouf is one of my favoritePlouf is one of my favorite restaurants. Plouf never fails to please. Always just what I need!3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic- as alwaysPlouf is my favorite French restaurant in San Francisco. I always bring people here. The Pate was superb. The orange roughy in a light orange essence sauce was so light and truly heavenly. I finished it off with chocolate mousse. Thank goodness we were walking.2/15/2013 12:00:00 AMBest mussels everIf you are willing to run the Belden Place gauntlet, where promoters from each restaurant try to pull you in (literally sometimes), you will be rewarded for your forbearance when you land at Plouf, far and away the best restaurant in the chic downtown alley. The mussels rock, as do the salads and, well, everything on the menu! Go at 11:50 to beat the rush and watch the tippy outside tables if you order a tall iced tea or Arnold Palmer.1/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
