Diner Reviews
  • "Best filet and prime rib in KC. So good we went two nights in a row! Wonderful!!!"

  • "This was our first time here and we came for our18th wedding anniversary. We had a reservation at 6 and loved that it was still pretty quiet. We had a wonderful server that had the right mix of checking if we needed anything but also letting us enjoy our evening. We do not do this very often so it is a real treat. The food was exceptional. My prime rib was better than I expected and my husband loved his steak also. It was just what we both had wanted. We will let others know of our experience."

  • "We went here for my Dad's 70th birthday celebration dinner on Thursday, August 28th. We had a party of five and had a very nice table in a quiet area in the back of the restaurant. The food and wine was great! My parents had the filet and I had the Kansas City strip. All the steaks were cooked to our liking and the sides were great. We had the french fried onion strings (which were amazing), the mushrooms and the lyonnaise potatoes (which all were delicious and crowd pleasers). All of the side portions were very large and enough for a group of five. The service was wonderful...very personable and top notch. They even bought my Dad desert for his birthday. We had the key lime pie and the chocolate cake. The wine list was also extensive!"

  • "This is our favorite restaurant in Kansas City - we dine there about 4 times a year and stay the night at a hotel in the Plaza area. It is a quiet atmosphere but with plenty of great service and serious diners enjoying the great beef dishes. We are usually there about 2 hours so we must really enjoy it!"

  • "Dined at Plaza III twice in one week..love love love it!!"

  • "Took my wife there for a night out. This was our first time visiting the Plaza III. The atmosphere was great. Very peaceful and the ambience was great. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The only problem we had with it was the food. I ordered a T-bone and my wife got the KC Strip. The were prepared correctly, However for $50 a steak it wasn't the best steak of my life. It was not seasoned properly at all. As a home cook I definitely have prepared better steaks. That being said it was still a great experience and a great night out but just a disappointment with the steaks."

  • "We have a goal to go to all the restaurants in the Plaza, this one is one of them. I was actually expecting a lot because this restaurant has REALLY good reviews, and I was not disappointed. I ordered the prime rib (regular) and oh lord jesus, it was superb. My boyfriend ordered the large filet mignon and it was so plump and delicious. I really liked the fact that the waitress came out with a cart that showed the cuts of beef, the "side" portions and the potatoes they use (size wise). I got a whole side for myself of mushrooms, and my boyfriend got the mashed potatoes, which he reported were very good as well. The mushrooms were cooked nicely with butter and herbs, I ate all of them!. We will be coming back here."

  • "Best steak in KC. Always delicious. Our favorite restaurant bar none."

  • "The hostess was great in seating us to our table. Our waiter was not professional at all. He didn't introduce himself. When he did come around to our table, he didn't do a great job in sharing the specialties that was offered. He check on our table less than 3 times. Our dinner reservations were on a Monday and the restaurant was not crowded. He didn't start to come around and to be more friendly until most of his customers in his section were empty. This was a special night for me and my date and it was not great experience."

  • "GREAT food, GREAT service, but needs a little updating."

  • "We went for a special occasion. The steaks were delious. We also ordered the white chedder potatoes, also yummy! I appreciate the waiters knowledge and customer service. I do wish they had more wine by the glass available."

  • "Friend and I had our bi-annual birthday lunch that we've been doing for many years now. As is our tradition, we always get the same thing. Over the years, the quality of PIII has never wavered. The food is always excellent. I have the seafood bisque and friend has the the famous steak soup. In my opinion, both soups are some of the finest you will find in the KC area. I love the bread basket that accompanies the meals. The sweet biscuits go so well with the seafood bisque and the warm loaf bread equally well with the steak soup. Main course is always sliced sirloin with horseradish sauce on the side and mashed potatoes with gravy. Once again, PIII leaves us blissfully happy."

  • "A while back, my wife and I decided to tour all of the dining spots on the Plaza. With only a handful of restaurants to go, we saved the Plaza III for a special occasion, and when our anniversary rolled around we took the plunge. Rogelio, our server, was outstanding throughout the evening. Our meals were cooked to perfection and were absolutely delicious. We capped off the evening with two mouth-watering desserts. This was easily one of my favorite steaks and I highly recommend The Plaza III. (Note. I placed the noise level at "Moderate," but the evening was never too noisy. It was just slightly above "Quiet.") We had: Two Caesar Salads, 12oz KC Strip, Prime T-Bone, Garlic Mashed potatoes, Slice of Chocolate Cake, Creme Brûlée."

  • "WONDERFUL - cannot say enough about this place. I am only in KC 2x a year and I make sure I go to this restaurant every time...on Saturday - great food and Lonnie is the bomb."

  • "We have been coming to Plaza III for years to celebrate special occasions. This was our anniversary celebration dinner (45 years). While the food was outstanding as usual, the service was fairly slow and not much attention was paid to details (keeping water glasses filled, etc.) That was somewhat disappointing; also disappointing were the changes in downstairs; it used to be a fun place to go to listen to music and dance on occasion. That is definitely not the case now. The above notwithstanding, we will continue to come to Plaza III to celebrate."

  • "Plaza III is one of the premier steak restaurants in Kansas City. The food is outstanding and the service is what one would expect from an upscale restaurant."

  • "Old style fancy restaurant where you can get a great meal, especially a steak. My wife and I were celebrating our 40th anniversary, and the waiter and other staff made us feel right at home. We both enjoyed the atmosphere and our meal. A little expensive, but it was worth it!"

  • "Nothing fundamentally wrong with place but too many other better alternatives. Seems tied."

  • "This resurant was great. It on the expensive side but you defiantly get what you pay for. It's delicious!"

  • "Thoroughly enjoyed the food and service at the Plaza III but really surprised at the lack of dress code in a nice and formal dining establishment like this. What are people thinking when they come in to a nice restaurant like this and wear camo shorts and ball caps with sunglasses perched on top? Seemed like 50% of the people in the restaurant thought they were at Golden Corral."

  • "With the typical ambience of a high-quality steakhouse--dark paneling, linen tablecloths--Plaza III is an excellent place for fine dining. Service is impeccable--kudos to Kevin--the wine list is outstanding, and the food is very good. The specialty--steak soup--is outstanding. My wife had an excellent filet mignon and my salmon was very good. There is a back entrance to the restaurant from the parking garage, which is particularly good in inclement weather."

  • "We have been to Plaza III several times. Each time has been a great experience. One time we ate dinner at Plaza III the same time as 400+ prom goers and the service was still superb. The other night we celebrated our 31st wedding anniversary and we really enjoyed everything! Our waiter was excellent and the food was perfect."

  • "We each had a different meal to taste and loved everyone!"

  • "4 of the 6 steaks that we ordered were over cooked and the seafood dish that was ordered was also overcooked. Plaza III is essentially the same price point as Ruth's Chris but about have the value. Would not recommend!!"

  • "My wife and I celebrated a weekend in KC for our 48th anniversary. We have always enjoyed dining at Plaza III and was not disappointed. The waitress/server was very enjoyable and seemed to enjoy her work. Our food was delicious and was not rushed in our dining experience. When back in KC, we will always consider Plaza III."

  • "They have the best service of any steakhouse in Kansas City. I also love how Plaza III still takes the time to present each cut of meat and talk about the different flavors -- you really know that you are getting the best quality. The side dishes and wines are amazing as well -- same with the desserts! This is a timeless place. A must go and a good spot to become a regular."

  • "While our experience was good overall, the cost and older vibe of the restuarant would keep me from going back. Service was outstanding!"
    Dined on 7/18/2014
  • "The food was great - 5 of us and every dish was cooked perfectly. The menu was diverse enough to please anynone and being from Houston, Texas where we have as good as restaurants as anywhere in the world, Plaza III was a hit. The soufflés were to die for."

  • "Great food, very sparse crowd on a Saturday evening. Very loud guest nearby was clearly upset, sending back multiple steaks, cursing and clearly not going to be satisified. This was disruptive to us as well as other guests. Service was swift and couteous; however, there were very few tables full while there on a Saturday evening. KC staple showing signs of aging past its prime."
    Dined on 7/12/2014
  • "Service was attentive and friendly. Menu was interesting and creative. Noise level was deafening. This is NOT a venue for hearing conversation at your table. Ambient noise level was loud and distracting."

  • "Plaza III is a true treasure of Kansas City and a special treat for special occasions. Unfortunately, we cannot afford to eat at Plaza III on a regular basis, which is what makes it a truly special treat! NEVER had a better steak anywhere!!"

  • "I love the old beautiful set up of the entire restaurant. The window room is wonderful for late evening dining. I just don't know what all to say because any comments I would make are extremely positive."

  • "Went here for a business meeting. It was very quiet and the service was exceptional. Kevin did a superb job! The food is very good but I would say the steak is not quite as good as Capital Grill but still exceptional. Pricey place but understood that. Would recommend for business and a special occasion."

  • "Cool old world ambiance. My T-Bone was prime grade but surprisingly chewy on the strip side but the full flavor made up for the texture and the filet side was also very tasty. I'll try the Prime grade Porterhouse next time. My wife said her Filet was rather tastless and dry, most likely as they don't carry Prime in their stand alone filets so it was lacking marbling and she ordered Medium which will dry out lean filets. But the cool factor of this aged restaurant brought back good business dinner memories for me as we used to take our English masters there in the 1990's. The sommelier was great and picked the perfect cab and price range based on my requests. I will go back!"
