  • "Great little local venue for my family. Excellent and friendly service. Food was exceptionally yummy!"

  • "I was nervous after reading some of the comments here... but it was great! Our table wasn't ready when we arrived, although we were early and our whole party wasn't even there yet. We sat at the bar and had a drink. When our reservation time had passed, the hostess was very apologetic and said the people at our table wouldn't leave but that they had their bill and had been told people were waiting. Our server also came and introduced himself and said he would have the table turned around as soon as they left. As soon as we sat down they brought us complimentary chips and guac as an apology. We all loved our tacos and I can't wait to go back for more!"

  • "When you walk into playa cabana's cantina, your senses are instantly excited by fluorescent signage and artsy tequila bottles that fill up the wall space behind the bar. Although the tables are perfect for larger parties of four to six, if you swing by solo or in a party of two, be sure to hang out at the bar, where the bartender (Ray) will make your evening! He has extensive knowledge on the menu and the drinks that come with it, but most impressive was the passion he shared with his diners over Cantina's tequila list. He recommended the perfect combination of tacos and delighted us with the perfect tequila for dessert! These aren't your typical shooters, and they're worth every penny for a night you won't soon forget!"

  • "I have been here with girl friends as well as with my husband for a date night and loved it both times. Very fun, very friendly staff and bartenders. The food is delicious and different. Will be back again."

  • "If you want GREAT food -go here. If you are looking for a chill place to hang out & enjoy an evening eating & drinking w/ your friends - suggest going somewhere else. Although their website says "So stop by, relax...." Cancel relax. When I got the confirmation call- day before my reso- I was told about the 2 hr time limit so too late to change venues. That's information that should be listed on open table. After 60min of the waitress being attentive and getting our bill up to about $500 with drinks and food, she started clearing the table while we were still eating and drinking. She then ignored us with no dessert and coffee service and not refilling our drinks so we'd leave before 2 hrs. We did & went to Indie across the street."

  • "The overall experience was ok, food was the best part. I have two main observations. The place is way too loud. I did not hear a thing what the waitress said about the tacos that she served. It was too embarrassing to ask what it is for the third time. We had to shout to our friends on the other side. Also we had to wait for the rest of the tacos for a very long time. The others had already finished their meal when the two last tacos finally arrive. There was a lot of confusion. I found the waiter a bit arrogant too. Actually one of the rudest that I've met in Toronto. We just paid 2 X 80 dollars, you don't have to rude to us, okay."

  • "I recently went to dinner at Playa Cabana Cantina with my husband and 2 teenage daughters. We are all foodies and we all love Mexican food and we were not disappointed. The service was good. The food was delicious. We started with the chips and pico di gallo and guacamole and a grilled shrimp. They were all so good but ask for extra chips. We all chose different things but we all ordered the smaller plates. My husband and one daughter had different burrittos, she had steak, he had chicken. They were small and yet filling. I had the short rib taco and my daughter had the halibut taco. We both ordered 2 and it was the perfect amount. 1 would have not been enough. The taste of both was great. We also had both desserts and they were also good."

  • "The experience was disappointing. Food was extremely spicy & we were not forewarned. The drink 'special' was very steep at $14!! Having looked at the cocktail menu with prices between $7-$15, I was not expecting it to be near the higher end, perhaps something mid-range. Servers brought out the wrong dish. We ordered a beef burrito & were brought chicken. A few minutes later the server arrived with the correct dish, asking which we wanted. Assuming one would be thrown in the garbage we kept both to share, only to be told that we would be charged for it! Had we returned one, would the restaurant not have tossed the incorrect order, and accepted their loss? Instead they put the mix-up on us! Much prefer El Catrin & Grand Electric."

  • "Great food! Our server was very friendly and helpful. Service was a little slow for a Monday night, but other than that the food was fantastic!"

  • "Had a reservation 4 weeks in advance, but had to wait 10 mins so they could squish in a couple extra stools at the long bar table. The mojito was good, but incredibly small for $10. Chorizo nachos were very greasy (on account to the oily chips) and had cooled to the point that the cheese was hard when it was served. Burritos are just served up on a plate (two burritos actually means one cut in half), with no sides. 2/3 the size of a Burrito Boyz serving, less satisfying, and $13. Enchilada's were average. Sides looked like they were plated 6 hours prior and left in a warming drawer. It was so loud and crowed that we were literally screaming at each other to be heard. We were expecting a lot more from this restaurant."

  • "The food was great............the service however was really slow. Our server seemed too busy to handle all of her tables. The music was so loud we had to shout at our guests to be heard."

  • "Food good. Service very bad. Reservation is meaningless"

  • "Our server started off very friendly and chatty. We ordered food and 1 drink for each of the 3 adults in our group. She was kind enough to come and ask us if we wanted more drinks a couple of times, but she didn't seem pleased when we declined (it was a Tuesday night....so come on, one drink is ok, right?). By the end of dinner we couldn't even get her attention to get a water refill...which we kinda of needed as the food was spicy."

  • "The staff are just too high brow for me. We didn't order drinks and felt that we were being rushed out. It wasn't busy so there was no need."

  • "I ha been to Cantina before and really enjoyed myself so my boyfriend and I put it on a long list of things "to do". We decided to go last weekend and he really loved it. He was impressed with the food. Loved the old signage in the store and he was shocked with the cheap prices. He was talking about it for the rest of the night. We will definitely be back."

  • "I am a regular at this restaurant. I love the food. But I assure you that's all I go for. The waiters/waitresses are often curt/rude and make you feel like you should be thanking them for gracing you with their presence. Our waiter forgot our drink order and then came back to ask us if we wanted a drink. We politely reminded him we already placed the drink order and he rolled his eyes and sighed! RUDE. They do have some excellent bartenders and kitchen staff that keep this place afloat. They need to work on hostesses and wait staff next. Several of my friends have advised they will never go back after having rude service."

  • "Visited your restaurant because my son recommended it to us. He has been a number of times to all the locations. The food was good, but missing a wow factor in flavour. Maybe authentic Mexican food does not have a lot of flavour but compared to Chipotle Mexican Grill (burritos) not as much flavour. Now I understand they serve only a few items on the menu compared to you, but they do it well. I know good flavour because I cook at lot. Your tacos need a wow factor, more coriander, salsa, sour cream, hot sauce just provides heat not flavour. Maybe marinate the meat?? Figure it out. The servers were great, table for 2 too small, no comfort factor in the chairs. All those factors make a difference."

  • "I used to love this place. When it first opened, it was impossible to get a seat because of the hype. Coming back a year after their opening, I noticed it had gone a bit downhill. The margaritas are great, no doubt. But raising the price from $29 to almost $50 and over seemed a bit ridiculous. We ordered chorizo nachos, and they looked delicious, but were nearly impossible to eat. The cheese was like industrial rubber. We were breaking all the nachos just trying to lift them off the plate because it was so thick and rubbery and impossibly chewy. Extremely frustrating to try and eat. However, the chicken tacos were very very tasty, gotta hand it to them. Service isn't great, although the guy who seemed new serving us was nice."

  • "I came back here for my birthday this year as last year was an absolute hit. Great food, great service. This year was a completely different story. Once seated, we asked for an extra chair as one extra guest would be joining us. 10-15 mins had gone by before our chair arrived. Our server came to take our drink order and my friends pointed me out as the bday girl. He looked at me impatiently and said, "ok, are you going to get a drink or no?" I was stunned.. Once our bill came we noticed we were overcharged for an item. Brought this to our server's attention. His response, "fine, I'll take it off the bill." No apology, nothing but attitude. I will definitely not be back again."

  • "The appetizers were very good. The main course was ok as well. The service was just satisfactory as it looked like the wait staff was understaffed and it was busy."

  • "Genuine food that is packed with flavor. The server's recommendations were very helpful and would definitely eat here again. The rum punch is amazing and the tequila list is second to none that I can remember."

  • "I have been to playa cabana and cantina a number of times and loved it. It has been my favourite restaurant. The food was greasy, menu was smaller, chips were thicker and tres leches was not the tres leches we have always loved. We paid $90 for a dinner that was not worth the price anymore. $10 for a piece of tres leches the size of my palm and as dry as sponge cake was extremely disappointing. Whatever reason for the recent changes is definitely not for the benefit of the customer or quality of food. I will not be returning to this establishment again."

  • "The food was good. The chicken tinga in particular was good, nicely flavoured chicken with a crunchy shell, the whole thing came together a treat. I'd recommend that.... while sitting at the bar. The service was terrible. I would personally go elsewhere as plenty of places do the same thing better, but if you are going there, sit at the bar."

  • "The food was outstanding. We had guacamole and a variety of tacos. Everything was amazing. I can't decide what I liked best. My only complaint was that the service could have been better. It wasn't horrible or anything, they just could have been a bit more on point. We had to wait quite a while to order drinks when we first arrived and it wasn't terribly busy. I would definitely go back, the food is hard to beat!"

  • "The food here is fantastic, our waiter seemed distracted and everything involving him took forever. From getting our drinks (I got the wrong drink but obliged), to trying to pay the bill and leave- it just took waaaay too long. I'd go back, but would really hope to get another server."

  • "We had a great meal. The food was delicious and I wish I could have tried everything on the menu. We ordered a variety of tacos to share but still didn't get to try them all. One thing is- this place is maybe not so kid friendly."

  • "Everything was great. A pitcher of margaritas and trio tacos. Braised short rib taco was very good. Service was great. I would go back again next week. I felt like a had a little Mexican vacay."

  • "This restaurant known affectionately (as I found) as just "Cantina" by the neighbourhood , was very very loud and crowded. Despite the fact that we had reservations, we didn't wait for a table, but were seated near the door and it was quite cold when people went in and out. We asked to be moved but this request could not be carried out. The Food was very very good, Margarita was disappointing and the Sangria very juice-ish but tasty. Overall a good experience - especially with the food! Great Chicken Enchiladas."
