  • "This was our second visit to Plates and it was not as memorable as the first. Part of that was my entree selection, I think. On my first visit I had skate with collard greens. Both were incredible with the collards being the best I ever had outside the South. This time I had the fried chicken. It was very good, but did not compare to the skate."

Fabulous staff and management and an amazing chef with creative ideas. Anyone who loves food should definitely try Plates. Where else can you have a fried cinnamon donut for dessert!"

The blend of service and food is consistent from when you walk in, until you're wished good night when departing. While for me it's truly a local gem; it's worthy of being a destination restaurant should you not live in the greater Larchmont area!"

  • "We went for the sunday night "bottomless bbq" special. The pulled pork was cold and greasy. Ribs and brisket were too smoky for our taste. Nice large portion size for the first plate out but there was a puddle of grease on the plate. The slaw and beans were excellent. Asked for some bbq sauce on the side. The sauce was like a tangy, thin ketchup. Service was quite good though. The dining room is small and tight as expected. Our kids were welcome. The bar looked nice. I wouldn't recommend the bbq. We might go back to try the regular menu but we're not in a hurry to do that."

  • "Having been here during the last restaurant week and really enjoying it, we went back to celebrate a friend's birthday. I was really disappointed in the experience, and I'm not sure I'll go back. The menu is pricey, and while most of the food was very good, it was somewhat overpriced. The worst part of the experience was the server, who acted like she just didn't care . No apology for getting an order mixed up nor for an extra for the burger never appearing, and while she inquired into why there was an upcharge on that burger, I still think we were overcharged. It was only by $2, but at an upscale place with these prices servers should act very differently. We didn't feel that welcomed so why bother to return?"

  • "We have been to Plates twice and have had positive experiences both times. This visit we started with the special appetizers, the squid and ramen. I have high standards for ramen and was disappointed, but it just sounded so good on a cold night. The squid was ok, but overpriced for what was served. Our entrees were all delicious. The pork chops, fried chicken, duck and fish were all well seasoned and well cooked. We were much too full for dessert. For a lot of servers, it took a really long time for us to get our order in. After that though, they were attentive. It was a little cold in the restaurant so I would recommend keeping your coat if you get cold easily. Overall i enjoy Plates and will return"

  • "I hadn't eaten at Plates in some time, and I'd forgotten how reliable, fun and delicious it is. I had a fantastic steak with cheddar fries, my friends had tacos and homemade ramen noodle dish--both of which were equally good. Deserts were amazing. I was ready to go back for the same meal the next night! Ben and the wait staff were attentive and delightful."

  • "Reserved for Westchester Rest. Week dinner. Was seated in bar area, despite reservation. Food portions were extremely small, food was not at all of acceptable taste or quality, menu was very limited with poor choices, and the only rest. week desert was a choice of a "Ring Ding" (their words), or a very bad (and actually inedible), dry small donut. Service was inattentive and disinterested. Overall, a terrible meal and a worse value. I would never return."

The specials on the prix fixe menu were varied and the ones we tasted were delicious. The special "ice cream cake" dessert was incredible. A mixture of many different types of homemade ice creams with a ladyfinger crust, the flavor combination was out of this world."

  • "Plates is special for us and has been since the day it opened. The food is fresh and interesting, and the Wed. BYOB is a wonderful bonus. We usually prefer to eat at home, avoiding the over-salted, over-priced, too-predictable food at most restaurants. But Plates is exceptional. We always choose it for special occasions and are not disappointed. My only possible complaint is the desserts. Plates formerly had special chocolate desserts that had to be ordered at the beginning of the meal. We miss them and don't share Chef Karp's love for American fast food. The service at Plates is always incredibly attentive and kind."

We have dined at Plates at least several dozen times over the past three years and have rarely left disappointed. We frequently introduce our friends and acquaintances to the restaurant and most of them have had a very favorable impression of this little gem in Larchmont. The regular menu contains a good variety of offerings, while augmented daily with specials that match the season or the chef’s latest creation. The environment is relaxed and lively, with moderate conversation-level noise. A pleasant balance to be able to hear your dining guests, but have your conversation lost in the light buzz of the dining room. Great job Plates!"

  • "Perfect place for a cosy delicious meal with friends on Friday night. The Holiday decor makes Plates a very inviting space on a cold winter night. The food was really good, sea bass for my husband, great mini tacos for me. The country doughnuts for dessert were perfect to share . As locals I don't know what we waited for to start eating there. It is a warm, welcoming place, like being in someone's home (make sure to ask to look through the book of plates). All the food was excellent, including the Sunday special barbeque plate that one of us had. The Ring Dings were great, as everyone says. Go there. I'm going back."

It just happen to be Hudson Valley Restaurant week for this visit. We were not treated like "coupon people", and each item from the prix fixe was as good as (and portioned like) the regular menu.
