The food was very good and nicely presented. The service worse than slow. While the wait staff was nice/friendly, we had to keep going to find them. No reason to wait more than 20 minutes after our lunch dishes were removed to get the dessert menu and then have to ask for it twice. Dessert also took a very long time, but it was important to our little group since we were celebrating a friend's birthday. After we finished dessert, we had to go find the waiter again to get the check. That turned what could have been a great 1 hour to 75 minute lunch into a 2 hour lunch.

We had a reservation for brunch. Arrived and stood at the "wait to be seated" sign. Several people behind the bar and moving around the place. 2 ladies sitting at the bar with some food and a couple of tables filled outside. We were basically ignored for a good 5 min. I got 1 guy's attention who said that "someone will be with you in a minute". The ladies at the bar said it took them 5 min. to get someone's attention so they could order. This happens every time we come here. "WELCOMING" is not the term I would use for this place. The food is delicious, but don't expect warm and fuzzy service. Table service is usually OK, but not the "hostess" end of things.

I had never been to Plate 38 and was pleased with how many brunch options there were. As someone who cannot eat red meat, having multiple vegetarian options that went beyond just salmon was nice to see. The waiter was very attentive and there was not a long wait time between ordering food and when it arrived. Everything was delicious. I also enjoyed the variety of teas. Overall, it was a delightful brunch experience and I would definitely recommend it to a friend.

We like this restaurant very much - the food is good, the burgers are amazing, and I love the tuna wonton tacos and the $1.50 oysters during happy hour. But our server was just terrible - slow, not at all knowledgeable about the food and not a great attitude. We've had her a few times, and she is like this each time.

Second Ike we bc been here. Reserved a table on the prior for our pup. They were exceptionally accommodating. Our server was happier to see the pup than us. Lol. She was great and they are very attentive. The tuna taco are my favorites. We will continue coming here.

Robert, head chef and owner does some wonderful imaginative cooking. The specials change nightly and are very different from the previous selections. The menu changes frequently as well. My husband and I like to eat low carbohydrate foods and the kitchen is always great about substituting low carb veggies for potatoes and rice.

I love the, but their execution should be better. Food needs to be seasoned better, and service needs to improve by leaps and bounds. Biggest problem? Don't con the customer. A salad that says it has one type of greens should not be served with another. Guess what? Most diners are pretty sophisticated and we know what we ordered. When I called it to their attention, the server not only did not KNOW what the greens were on my plate, she didn't know that they were any different from the greens on the menu. AND there was no apology or adjustment to the bill because of it. I love that this restaurant is in my neighborhood and the menu is wonderful----better execution and it'll be a true gem.

I had the grilled artichokes...they were more charred/burnt than just grilled. Most of the outer leaves were black and hard. My husband ordered the classic burger...medium. After a few bites he saw that the inside of the patty was very rare/raw and asked for it to be cooked longer. It took at least 20 minutes to bring out a new burger. Had to ask a couple of times for water refills.

Plate 38 is quickly becoming one of our go-to restaurants for quality food and cocktails. I've been there for lunch and dinner, but dinner is my favorite. Mike and the crew at the bar serve up some delish cocktails (I recommend the Riddler and the Colorado Street Walker) and the food is top notch with some of the best burgers and fries in the city, though there's a lot more than burgers and fries to this place. Also love the beet salad!

I came this past Saturday 7/19/14 for brunch with a party of 6. The positives: food was FANTASTIC and everyone in my party loved what they ordered (I ordered the french toast) and presentation was impressive. The restaurant itself had a fun/trendy atmosphere and outdoor seating was available (always a plus). The two negatives were: 1.) the service- incredibly slow. I think we waited for over a half hour just for a waiter or waitress to acknowledge us and take a drink order. 2.) adult beverages- terrible. Too much champagne in the mimosas, not enough orange juice and the Bloody Mary was way too salty. If it weren't for the service and drinks, I could have easily given 5 stars. Hope they improve!

Went on a Sunday morning for breakfast after reading their menu on Open Table. Was a little disappointed that their menu at the restaurant was not the same, but we found several items that were still there. We enjoyed our meals, especially our daughter who ordered the Banana French toast, very yummy, but more of a dessert than breakfast. We enjoyed the outside dining, until a party of 12 people sat down. It wasn't the people we minded, but rather, the 6 dogs that were with them. Really, enclosed patios filled with human patrons is no place for so many dogs! I still say try the food, good, but not extraordinary.

  • Street corner, loud cars, gas fumes
    OpenTable Diner Since 2009

The restaurant is an open air type theme with a canopy and sheet of thick plastic separating our table from the sidewalk, loud cars passing by, and is literally on the street. We could smell the gas fumes from the cars. The menu contains items that resemble bar food. We ordered a cheese plate, and were disappointed. They gave us stale bread, not artisan bread or crostini. The quality of the cheese left much to be desired. I've had better cheese that came out of a can or came prepackaged with crackers. The drink and wine list was nearly nonexistent. But it's great for crowds and people who like gasoline fumes with their dinner. Between the crowd and the cars passing by, I couldn't hear my fiancé even though we were both yelling.

although the food is good, the attitude of the bartender/manager was horrible. we had an early reservation on father's day and he couldn't find the reservation, was rude and basically ignored us. we waited probably 10 minutes to get seated. when we finally got seated, even though there were less than 10 people in the restaurant we were seated in the farthest corner of the patio. i am not sure if it was because we had a 2 yr old who was quieter than anyone else in the restaurant or if it because we were the only non-caucasian group in the restaurant. either way, it does not matter because i will not visit this restaurant again.

Took my dogs here for dinner out on the patio. Had several small plates. The best being the scallops. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. Really enjoyed the drinks. Should not had wasted drink on a beer. The servers were very well trained and dealt with my dogs well.

This restaurant is always a winner. It is rare that we do not want one of the interesting specials but the standard menu is always great. Robert, the owner and chef comes up with some really wonderful food. Dennis is an outstanding server and the others are great as well.

I was surprised because I read many good reviews about this place. I ordered the roasted bone marrow for an appetizer. What I received was two small rib bones with, maybe, 2 tsp. of bone marrow in them. That dish was $14. My son ordered the skirt steak. He took one bite an spit it out. He said, "Mom, this just tastes horrible." So I tasted it, and it truly did taste horrible. They grilled it, then smothered it with the worst tasting gravy I have ever tasted. Neither of us have EVER sent a meal back, but I was not going to pay $34 for something that I doubt the chef even tasted. The waiter took the skirt steak off our bill, and brought us the Lamb roast. It was better, but still very expensive. The wines by the glass are $12+

We tried the Thursday night prix fixe for the first time, and it was pretty good, but not as good as most of the specials usually are there. The burratta on the caprese was extremely skimply, the quail a bit mushy and the pastry for the granache tart was also mushy and bland (the salted caramel ice cream that accompanied it, however, was very tasty, as were our cocktails). A note on the otherwise very good service: the server brought out our 3rd courses before my husband had finished his second, so then his plate had to sit there getting cold while he finished. We should have sent them back, but we were too confused to think about it in the moment. I will say, I'm very happy they are finally on Open Table!
