Diner Reviews
  • "The service was attentive. The atmosphere with a bar centered in the dining area made the noise level at times unfit for a conversation. The food: The scallops were tasty and cooked to perfection. The short ribs serving was ample yet a little too dry. The mushrooms overwhelmed the short ribs. We visit The Plantation when we are on Long Beach Island, and we have had really fine food in the past. It was a Monday evening this year, and Mondays are not always occasions for great dining experiences."

  • "Food OK, service OK. Very loud. Big bar scene. Decent place for north end of LBI. If you don't expect too much, you won't be disappointed."

  • "While I panned this place for Easter brunch...I had a very good experience for " girls weekend". July 4. It's fair play that I make that statement. Thank you."

  • "The food was mediocre and the noise level was fairly high. They have valet parking, but we were told they had run out of spaces. They apologized, but we still had to find our own parking spot."

  • "Great bar scene can get a little loud. More pricey than most on the island so only go occasionally but quality is good"

  • "A little pricey but the food was fresh and well prepared. I would highly recommend the Chilean Sea Bass. Fresh and cooked to perfection. Buzzing bar like atmosphere downstairs and quieter family groups upstairs. Pricey but good fresh ingredients"

  • "Our dinner was delicious Took us back to when we first visited Plantation and had excellent Chilean Seabass."

  • "Our son treated my husband and I to dinner for our birthdays. We were so impressed with our server, Erin; our dinner; and the speed with which our meal was prepared and served. Loved everything Erin recommended, and will definitely be returning in the future."

  • "Very positive experience, server greeted us less than a minute after sitting down. All dishes had a great presentation and were very good. We will definitely come back next time we're in LBI."

  • "As always the food was great. The noise level upstairs is a problem if you plan on holding a conversation (this was due to three large parties) "

  • "We've had dinner here on several occasions that we've enjoyed very much. There's a new menu; several choices looked interesting. The Sea Bass was good; the sea scallops was so so-the risotto it was served on was better than the scallops. The food, however, turned out to be just OK. BUT...the prices on the new menu were not OK (salads $9-12, entrees $29-38). At those prices, the food better be really good. It wasn't..."

  • "Very disappointed. My family of 7 were there for Mothers Day Brunch. My nephew ordered the steak and eggs. The steak was sent back twice. Very poor quality of meat. Should not offer this on the menu. The restaurant is in need of updating. Very musty smell which was an immediate turn off. Will try a different place next time we are in LBI."

  • "My husband and I had never been to Plantation but decided to give it a try for Easter Brunch. We were not disappointed! We were seated immediately and received service within minutes. Food was excellent...as was the atmosphere. Looking forward to going back for dinner."

  • "I have been coming down here for years and have lived on season locally for seven years. For Easter brunch, we were actually charged $14.00 for THREE shrimps (appetizer). When we asked the waitress if this was the correct price, she came back with the menu and said "yes. It is. " Then said they were "jumbo shrimp". We all laughed and she agreed they were not. My eggs benedict were where hard boiled. I had to send them back. (which I never do.) When they came back (somewhat better) they were actually cold. I just can't imagine where they had been. My son enjoys the bar scene at night, vibrant sports bar. Great atmosphere at that time for 20 somethings. Hate to have to write this review. "

  • "Its the shore - so don't have high expectations of food / service or anything else ... That said - you're not at the shore to cook - so its worth it for that! "

  • "Slow service to start. Salads were good, visually appealing and delicious with the exception of the caesar salad that sported chopped romaine and almost no dressing. Entrees were less than tasty and the deserts were edible. Some hits...mostly misses."

  • "Always great food. A quiet, romantic gem in the off season and a vibrant hot- spot during the summer. One of Long Beach Island's best."

  • "Menu selections were embellished with interesting items which sets Plantation far above most restaurants in the county. It is on LBI, but is reasonably priced for what is offered."

  • "My husband and I went out for a dinner date, it does not happen often with having kids at home. We hoped we picked a place we could relax and really enjoy. Well we did, we were not rushed and we loved the food and service. Angie was our server and she was amazing! She made sure we were ok but never felt like she was bothering us. We would absolutely go back again!"

  • "The food at Plantation was good and we will most likely return because of that. We were a bit disappointed with the service, but I don't believe it was the waiter's fault. It was a full dining room of 8 tables, and he was the only waiter on that night. Since it is a restaurant at the shore, and the night before New Year's Eve, I don't think they were expecting to be as busy. So, we were neglected a little bit. He said he would bring a bread basket, and didn't, as an example. He was apologetic, but very busy. So, I would recommend giving the restaurant a try. The duck meatball appetizer was awesome!!!!!"

  • "I went to plantation on Saturday night for a night out with my boyfriend. It was his birthday. We had a great time from the minute we were welcomed in the door. Every body was so warm and friendly... Especially Angie, our server. She is so sweet and very personable. If you want great service... Ask for her! Rick made our cocktails and they were amazing! I had the ice drop martini... YUM! The chicken stuffed with spinach and ravioli were out of this world! I definitely recommend all to come and try this food! 5 stars!!!"

  • "We dine here during vacation each year, and have enjoyed the food and service, but this year, the comparison of cost to product received is questionable. The New England clam chowder is always great, and we were not disappointed this time either. The bacon wrapped scallops were also good. While my pork chop meal was well prepared and flavorful, but my wife's mash potatos were cold and bland (even though her ribeye steak was well prepared). The dessert of rasberry cobbler was cold and doughy, and was a disappointment to end the meal. The service was very good. My complaint is that the meal was quite expensive ($150 +) in comparison to what was received (and we visit all of the big restaurants on the island during our stay)."

  • "Overall, disappointing. Soup (Lobster Bisque) was good, but it was luke warm. I should have sent it back, but I did not. Entrees also came out luke warm, but this time they had to be sent back. This left the meal disjointed, as 2 of us had our entrees while 2 of us waited for our entrees to be re-heated. It also took quite long (over 15 minutes) for our dessert to be served. To spend over $250 for dinner for 4, this is very disappointing."

  • "Very poorly designed restaurant. Hostess stand is just in the door in the bar so its very crowded and difficult to get to the stand. Tables are very close together and don't leave much room to sit or stand up. Very loud probably because the bar is in the middle of the dining room. Food was good but expensive for the atmosphere. Wouldn't go back."

  • "The Plantation is one of many fine restaurants on Long Beach Island, NJ. It is located in the borough of Harvey Cedars. Caribbean flair. Food never disappoints. There are clearly-marked gluten-free items on their menu and it's a nice selection. Really great wait staff."

  • "Expected "Happy Hour" pre-dinner drinks per their AD till 6:30 - NO BAR only restrictions. Told BAR ONLY at door, and accepted bar area table. Server denied service - told us must be seated at ACTUAL bar. LEFT Plantation - WILL NOT return even though we live within 5 miles!"

  • "Table on second floor was directly next to a doorway used by waitstaff and patrons. It was busy and loud. However, the food was exceptional. The calamari appetizer was a delight and the main courses we had were outstanding. This was my third time to this restaurant in the past two years and the food has been some of the best I have had."

  • "WAAAAAAY too loud. I could not enjoy my experience. You're either downstairs by the bar (very crowded and loud) or upstairs (they pack it full of people and it is extremley loud). The food was okay I guess. The place was very pretentious/expensive for what it was. I will not go back. There are much better restaurants in the area that are no where near as loud, like Ship Bottom Shellfish."
