Diner Reviews
  • "We chose PLaE for dinner to celebrate a birthday after receiving excellent reviews from friends. We were very delighted with the various menu choices for food as well as their extensive wine list. Barbara, our waitress, was OUTSTANDING. She was friendly and thoroughly knowledgeable of the entire operation. Her service was impeccable. She made our dining experience memorable."

  • "It was very good, but over priced. it was steak and a lobster cut down the middle. I basic got a half of a med. size lobster, 2 pc. of corn on cob, scallops potatoes , and 2 pc. of steak for $60.00. It should of been $40.00."

  • "The price point of the foods served seemed high to me. The server seemed more interested in catching up with old friends at the table behind us than working. We waited a long time for everything from drinks to entree and it was not crowded"

  • "Not the best meal we've had there by far. They need to step up their game a little. Maybe it was just an off night for them."

  • " Much like its sister restaurant, Brett's water way cafe, everything at plae is nice and well done except for the service. At both restaurants, a 20% tip is included for groups of. 5 or more. It is obvious that the staff knows this, because they are rude, slow and very poorly trained. They also go out of their way to make it clear that they don't like children."

  • "PLAE is a steady standby for business dinners or special occasions. They always have a very good seafood special and they offer many menu items that take advantage of the coastal waters around them. We had a good meal, but the service really drug. It seemed to take forever to get our drink order and our server appeared to be really flustered by something. With all that said, PLAE is a place we will go back to for its food, ambience and location in the Plantation on Amelia Island."

  • "We found this restaurant to be just fine. I ordered the chef's surprise expecting it to be something memorable - the server said she could not tell me what it was. After ordering our server told me it would be $60, which I accepted. It raised my expectations. What I got was two tenderloin medallions, two scallops, three four shrimp and whipped potatoes. Really? Hardly worth $60. I guess the chef's surprise is that you pay a lot for something very ordinary. Surprise!"

  • "Throughly enjoyed the experience. Food was great, wine was excellent and the service was attentive but not annoying. Our server, Amber, was friendly and very helpful in helping us make a decision about our dinner selections. (The menu had so many wonderful things to choose from.) This restaurant is a MUST when visiting Amelia Island!"

  • "When our grilled Tuna came out cold we asked the waitress if the chef intended for it to be cold, she said no and took it back to be made hot- it came out the second time still just barely warm-we asked again why it was not hot and were told they would re-cook another piece of fish for both of us - strike 3 the exact same fish came out NOT HOT and with half the plate ingredients not present- the manager couldn't be bothered to speak to us and apologise - we left and have nothing good to say about Plae, perhaps this restaurant needs to train its cooks and staff - as Danny Meyers says restaurants are a service industry-- this was just terrible service!!"

  • "Plae used to be one of our favorite restaurants. Not sure what has changed but after two mediocre meals, we will not be returning. One entree, the Hawaiian tuna, came out covered in fried wanton noodles over a bed of pasta. Much more Asian than Hawaiian and looked like an entree from TGIFridays. Our children were not offered a kids menu and when we ordered an entree for them to split, we were delivered an extra plate to split it ourselves. A $30 entree & the kitchen can't do that? Our server was so unfamiliar with the wine list and couldn't offer a suggestion for an entree pairing. The $16 glass of Pinot noir I received was bland. They only had two Pinot options available. We didn't bother with dessert. At $165 can eat better elsewhere."

  • "Nice ambiance and good service, but the quality of the food was low given the price. This is the first time in a restaurant I've had to de-vein my own shrimp. The jasmine rice tasted like minute rice. "

  • "We took our 16-year-old son out for a nice dinner during spring break. The food was excellent and the selection very good. My son, even though a 16-year-old football player, enjoys good food. His grilled lamb was perhaps the best. I had crab cakes and the Wife had mussels. Desert was excellent too. Service was great, and ambience very nice and low key. A little pricey for the food, but overall a great place for a special night out. As my teen age son said, it was an exceptional night out."

  • "My husband, son and I visited Plae on vacation to Amelia island. We enjoyed the food so much. I could describe my dish as a flavor explosion- from the sabayon sauce to the large, succulent shrimp. My husband enjoyed the bourbon salmon. We would return for a romantic dinner for the next time! I did not partake in the wine selection, but I do not doubt it's quality. Exceptional menu and quality of food. Thank you!"

  • "While visiting the outstanding Omni Resort on Amelia Island we decided to spend my birthday at PLAE based on open table's write ups. We have found these write ups to be consistently very accurate. In this case the write ups were accurate but perhaps we had expectations that were just too high for a "fine dining" experience at a beach resort. Food was pricey but not spectacular. The wine list was extensive and had some fine selections, the service was very good, but, frankly, the ambience just wasn't there for us. The kindest way to describe it was a high class beach cafe where you can easily drop $250. For that cost there needs to be something more special with the food and the facilities."

  • "This was our fourth time eating here, and we were not disappointed. The food was delicious, the portions healthy (we actually split the Wedge Salad), and served quickly. The waitstaff, particularly our waitress, were attentive and friendly."

  • "Plae has always been our favorite dining spot when we are in Amelia, but this time we thought they must have had a new chef. When my salmon arrived I knew it was not cooked as I had requested so II asked that it be cooked more. The chef sent the dish back saying that is the way it should be. So, I enjoyed a very good. Spinach salad instead. My husband's Caesar salads had way too much dressing and only 3 shrimp as the add -on. But, the great jazz in the cozy bar made an enjoyable evening."

  • "This was a nice, quiet, upscale restaurant and one of the better choices in Amelia Island - particularly if you are staying at the Omni resort as there is an Omni shuttle to conveniently take you from the hotel to the restaurant and back. The atmosphere was quiet, intimate almost, and very professional. The staff was superior and the food was very good. Price at our table averaged about $40/person with desert and soft drinks."

  • "Last Saturday night PlaE was not the happening place to be... there were no more than six tables filled...crickets! That being said, we were immediately sat. There was no vibe or atmosphere and we would like to try the restaurant again to see if our experience would be different. Ironically the appetizer for $19 was only 2 scallops... but the entrees were very large and very tasty. Of course, priced at $38 (chef's surprise) and $48, they should be large. Our waitress was great until the end of the meal... then she abandoned us. We were ready to leave and pay and couldn’t find her. Two other people stopped by our table to check on us. I think it was an off night for PLaE. That is unfortunate, because it cost us $200."

  • "I used Open Table to make my reservation for Friday night at PLAE, as suggested by the voice message on the restaurant 's phone. (The message did not offer an opportunity to leave them a message for call back). Open Table had all times between 6:45 and 8:30 marked unavailable. Reluctantly, I chose 6:45, snide our preferred time of 7:30 seemed to be previously reserved. The restaurant was EMPTY, but for 3 or 4 other tables, from the time we arrived, to the time we left at 8:30. What's up, Open Table and PLAE?"

  • "Reservations were at 6pm. We were promptly greeted and seated within minutes. "Gina" arrived moments after being seated. She had several suggestions to start with. We started with drinks, an appetizer, then the main course, and lastly dessert. Everything that came to the table was wonderfully prepared and tasted amazingly good. This restaurant is the perfect place for date night. You won't be rushed. You have time to enjoy the entire experience. I definitely will be returning. We had a superb evening."
