A word from PJ Moran's Pub & Restaurant
28 years ago, John Mahon and Eamonn Maher realized their dream. Their goal was to create a pub with old-world charm and warmth near the heart of the big city.
They wanted to create an up-scale pub that embraced its neighborhood roots. John and Eamonn had a vision of intimate booths and secluded tables with the smell of mahogany permeating through the room. They discovered a bar and restaurant that was as comfortable as your own living room. The space was in the perfect location where tourists, locals, and the business elite could sit side-by-side to enjoy a pint together. Located close to St. Patrick’s Cathedral, right down the block from Rockefeller Center and the bustling shops of 5th Avenue, they knew they had found their future home. There, in the space formerly known as "The Gathering Steakhouse," PJ Moran's was born.

Went here with a bunch of work
colleagues (13) to take one guy out for lunch on his final day with the company. I realize that it was a World Cup Soccer day, but as a result the restaurant was completely packed for lunch and thus the service suffered. Also, they need to majorly expand their menu...choices for appetizers were minimal and the ones on there were expensive. How can an Irish pub not have any "finger foods" like wings, poppers, mini-cabbage rolls (or whatever else) on their menu so that people can share? To me this place is good for lunch at best, I would never come here for dinner. Maybe I'll be back in the future, can't guarantee that."

The food was good, but the service
was terrible. Our waitress spent the majority of the time we were there leaning against the bar while talking to others. She never came by to refill our drinks, I had to approach her at the bar to ask her to do so. She never brought us the check, even after we were done eating for nearly 30 minutes. Another waitress finally brought the check to the table, while our original waitress continued to lean against the wall and socialize. "

Very good food service ambiance
decor and a wonderful photo of Eddie Kavanagh. "

We hadn't been here in a
half-dozen years and were pleased to find it had lost none of its charm."
Dined on 3/15/2014
In this day and age I believe this
place is the only place left on earth charging for refills on iced tea. The food was ok. The dining area was cramped and the 2 giant tv's located in the dining area had the patrons in the bar area staring at you while you ate. Very uncomfortable. AND we usually tip 20% which I believe is the going rate but they add on an 18% gratuity automatically no matter the size of your party. We didn't like that! But being 18% was added to our $20 worth of iced tea we let it be!"

Burgers were very good. Shepherds
pie was very good, could have used a bit more moisture. French fries were tremendous. Food prices were very reasonable, but drinks are typical of NY prices."
Dined on 12/27/2013
This bar would get a better rating
if their food and service matched their prices. It wasn't bad, just not THAT great. For the price, you could spend your money getting a better meal elsewhere."

OUR EXPERIENCE WAS THAT IT IS A
WONDERFUL RESAURAMT IN EVERT WAY !!!"
Dined on 12/11/2013
Server was nice. The booth we were
sat in was nice, cozy, and romantic, but there was one such booth. The main dishes were big disappointments. Chicken pot pie had a nice crust (thin but tasty) but inside it was watery and was just hunks of chicken. The chicken hunks were OK but I could have done better. I might have had two tiny pieces of carrots and not much else. The shepherd's pie was awful looking. Try imaging plain ground beef covered in a thick layer of dry mashed potatoes. I am not sure who thought that would be a good idea for dish. My fiancee had a hard time eating it because it was so dry. On the plus side they had Swiss Miss hot chocolate!"

An average pub. Order beer: the
cocktails and wine are so-so. A request for a pasta with a different sauce was honored and the dish was okay, but the burger was ultimately awful. Only the first bite was as ordered, medium rare, then the meat quickly turned to medium well and the steak fries must have been cooked in old grease because the smell was so strong that they were impossible to get as far as my mouth. And a smile from any of the staff might help."

Fine for a casual business lunch,
but nothing special"

Great food. Great service. Special
center booth table provided with OpenTable reservation."
Dined on 3/15/2013
Looking for a quality, but
affordable, early dinner choice during our NYC shopping/Rockefeller Center Tree trip... The table was ready and waiting when we arrived, service was both fast and friendly, food arrived after very short wait and everyone (including the kids!) was completely happy with the meal! Highly recommended for a quick, quality, simple/traditional pub fare anytime you are in NYC in the Time Square/Rockefeller Center area."
Dined on 12/30/2012
At first this was going to be a
big disaster. We were told that our table was given away eventhough we had a reservation. We had 16 people including some kids that made this situation a big problem. We showed up 15 mintues early but we were told that they tried to call us about a half and hour before we were due to arrive. I did not hear my cell phone in the hustle and bustle of NYC at Rock Center. Luckily, the manager with the help of the hostess finagled 2 tables for us to have for our lunch. A restaurant should at least give you the opportunity to show up. If you are late even a minute, then I get it. The waitress did a great job dealing with the 2 tables and the food was fine."

Good burgers, reasonable prices,
kid friendly, great location."
Dined on 12/27/2012
We had a party of 12 and everyone
was happy with both food and service. Most of the party got hamburgers."
Dined on 12/27/2012
We were well accommodated for a
large party. Our table was ready when we arrived and the service although prompt was not the greatest. This usually is proportional to party size therefore no biggy. However was very busy and several times chairs were being carried over our heads. Food was nothing exceptional in fact onion soup was totally lacking. Needed to try it probably would not repeat. To many other places to try."

I choose to go this pub restaurant
because it was close to Rockerfeller Center, I didnt want to spend a arm and a leg for dinner and decided on this place which turned out to be a big mistake the place was cramped it was way to warm, it took forever to get our food order last the food was horrible, I would of been better off spending the extra somewhere else."
Dined on 12/14/2012
Typical Irish Pub fare. Food was
good, service was excellent. I would stop by for lunch again."
Dined on 12/13/2012
We're able to get us right in with
the open table reservation. Great service and great food!"
Dined on 12/10/2012
I had researched on the Internet
for some restaurants which were within a reasonable distance from our hotel - The Westin Grand Central on East 42nd Street. P.J. Moran's came up on this search. The service from start to finish was overall satisfying. The food, starters and main courses, were served quickly and efficiently. My calimari starter was pretty good. I ordered a sirloin-type steak main course which was fine but not memorable. It simply would not make it's way on to my Top 50 Steaks of all time."

At first glance this place looked
like a nice place but things went downhill fast. First, when the hostess asked to seat us she took off leaving us in the dust and losing us in the bar crowd. We got to our table and found another group settling in to our seats. The manangement told us that it would be about 30 minutes before we could be seated. We told them that we had a reservation. They then asked the table jumper to leave the table. The food was very good and we were all happy with that. The problem was that it took forever to get our food. The worst part was the bill. They charged for soda and iced tea refills. Also, had gratuity added to bill for table of 5."

Standard pub fare, convenient
midtown location. Nothing special, but did appreciate the festive atmosphere during holiday season."

We visited NY to see the tree, and
I made the reservation at PJ's over a week in advance. I knew that it is a busy time, and I fully expected to wait for our table of 9. My issue was the hostess. When we arrived early, I told her we would be waiting outside, and asked if we should expect to sit at the time of our reservation. Her reply was "I hope so". I went back to her at the scheduled time and asked how much longer and her reply was "I have no idea." Finally, 25 minutes after our scheduled time, we asked if we could split our party and maybe get seated. By then the manager came to the station and took excellent care of us. We were seated within minutes. Food was great!"

We have been to PJ's before and
always satisfied. Although our reservation was for 5:30, we arrived early after the theater, at 5:00, and they were most gracious about seeing that we did not have to wait long for our table. It was a bit crowded, but we were comfortable, and the food and service were very good. I would definitely visit again."

My Chicken sandwich had the bun
burnt and too pricey for the sports bar atmosphere"
Dined on 11/25/2012
We were a large group of nine.
Staff was efficient but quality of food was poor. My son ordered a steak medium rare came out well done. My fish was overcooked as well."
Dined on 11/23/2012
Describes itself to be more of an
upscale restaurant but it is really just an overpriced sports bar. Decorated nicely for Christmas, but the food was just average and there are many better places to go I'm NYC."
Dined on 11/21/2012
The chicken fingers were to well
done, the chicken marsala was very well done(thank goodness for the sauce), the fish of the fish and chips was very dried out as was the shepherds pie, but we had a great table, they seated us right away, and did not rush us and our waitress was just wonderful and so accomadating, and we could walk to radio city"

PJ Moran's offers guests a warm,
comfortable environment where families and groups can enjoy a hearty lunch or dinner. Lovers of comfort food would enjoy the menu selections. The atmosphere was friendly and inviting, helped in no small part by the graceous waitstaff. We will definitely make this a regular stop on trips to NYC."
Dined on 11/10/2012
Everyone made use feel as ease.
Service was great just as was the food. Looking forward to my next visit.."
Dined on 10/11/2012
Ordered a shrimp sandwich and got
the cod instead. To be fair, the waitress did fix the bill. Also, ordered pork chops and got shoe leather instead."
Dined on 10/9/2012
Nice for lunch during work, big
portions and great service. Great value for money."
Dined on 9/21/2012
There is no reason for typical pub
food to be bad--yet it was. Perhaps going during the week for lunch is a better time to go, but the restaurant was almost empty in the early evening. Burger ordered medium rare, arrived medium well and once the waitress called my male companion "dear" it was over for me."

If you're looking for some great
pub food in midtown, PJ Moran's is great."
Dined on 7/20/2012
Had a great time at pj Morans. It
was the perfect setting for my friends and I , who had not seen each other in over 30years, to sit and relax over beer and wine and good food. We were not rushed. Service was very good and friendly staff. I will return."
Dined on 5/26/2012
PJ Moran is an Irish bar in
midtown with modest-size dining area in the back. Best dining choices are the traditional Irish fare. Loved the fish and chips. There were several dinner specials with value prices. Reservation for 8 was ready for us booked days earlier. Attentive, friendly service. And no automatic tip based on our group size--a good sign. Good drink values, including wine by the bottle, considering midtown location. 8-10 beers on tap. Four stars based on who they are, and what you expect from an Irish Pub with restaurant."
Dined on 5/16/2012
We enjoyed brunch after Mass at
St. Patrick's Cathedral. The location was good as was the food and our server was outstanding. We made reservations but it did not appear that they were needed. The friendly atmosphere and low noise level allowed for quiet conversation."
Dined on 5/6/2012
I chose P.J. Moran's for the
convenience prior to a concert at Radio City. The menu online was varied enough to please any palate. The onion soup was disappointing as it was mostly bread and broth. The Irish Steak while described as flambe was never afire. Portions were good, presentation weak and the staff was attentive. Will probably look elsewhere if going to Radio City again."

Basic, decent food at a resonable
price. there's something on the menu for everyone"
