Pizzeria Mozza - Newport BeachGood pizza, but speedy serviceThe last few times we ate here the food came out too fast. I would like to finish my appetizer before my main course arrives. Really good food but they are in too much of a rush to move patrons through.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMlove the pizza! The pizza at Mozza can't be beat. Usually go to Mozza in LA but whenever in Newport, always make sure we stop here as well. Went on Mother's Day and thought it would be crowded but we were seated right away (although we had reservations). Emily was our server and she was great. We both ordered appetizers and we were served complimentary small plates of special bread and tomato/mozzarella w/pesto in between appetizer and our lunch--- a nice treat.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazingly ItalianThe restaurant and our waiter was Italian. It made for an interesting evening and the food was amazing especially with imported ingredients. The noise level was VERY loud and the music did not match the ambience, but otherwise I enjoyed my dinner.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMAppetizers (burrarta bruschetta)Appetizers (burrarta bruschetta) and desserts (bittersweet chocolate tarte with olive oil gellatto and the Meyer lemon gellatto) were outstanding! Wine (procescco, Greco di Tufo and Sagrantino di Montefalco) were fantastic. Pizzas were just okay. The goat cheese & leek pizza was better than the salame with Fresno chilies. Both however seemed a bit average, especially compared to the other dishes mentioned.
Great, attentive service with lots of knowledge on dishes and wines. While tables are close, they are not too bad. And noise level was surprisingly not bad for such an open space.
Next time we'll try non-pizza entrees or better yet try Osteria Mozza.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMThe pizza is everything.Absolutely fabulous pizza. Perfect crust with just the right amount of salt. And the toppings are inventive. Loved it. Tables are a little close together but that's the only complaint. The service was fantastic. We were unfamiliar with many of the wines on their list so relied on the waitress for a recommendation. She recommended a fantastic wine at a really good price point. Wish I lived locally so I could go more often.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb pizza & friendly staffI came alone on a business trip. The staff could not have been friendlier and more accomodating. The pizza was superb - chewy thin crust properly charred and first-rate ingredients. The wine-by-the-glass list was small but had some good choices. On a Tuesday night the restaurant was bustling with large and small groups, a nearly-full bar, and a small outdoor patio area. I will definitely come back.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was delicious...The food was delicious... We tried several of their pizzas and each one was better than the other... We did arrive a little early for our reservation and their wasn't any place at the bar... A little awkward...
Great food, fun ambiance - we'll go back!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMReunion lunch for three at MozzaW enjoyed special tomatoes that is season for a couple of weeks on our Pizza Margarita. The desserts are fantastic from the butterscotch with burnt sugar glaze, cream and salt to the piquant Meyer lemon frozen pie. We are good friends that had not seen each other in more than a year and the server was perfect in the amount of attention and new when to leave us in the "chatting" mode.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food & service.Excellent food & service. Our server Chelsea was outsdanting, we will definitely go back.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMMozza has great food, wine,Mozza has great food, wine, ambiance and service. We enjoyed the apps (meatballs are very good) and the Bianca pizza and lasagna are excellent. While our server, Morgan, was very good and attentive, we felt slightly rushed. Maybe not her fault but rather the kitchen's, but servers need to be cognizant of time. Overall, a very pleasant experience.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved coming here as I'm aLoved coming here as I'm a fan of the original PIzzeria Mozza and Osteria Mozza and Chi Spacca. I'm so happy they've expanded to Orange County. The biggest negative is their parking is valet only so if you're looking for street parking good luck!4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMI loved Nancy's salad. TheI loved Nancy's salad. The pizza was good but I don't favor that kind of crust and if I returned I would ask if the had another option. We were with good friends we don't see often and it made the evening festive and enjoyable so the evening was positive.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, but overpriced wine! The food was great, as always. I was a little surprised at how much their "wines by the glass" were. For being very average wines (not well known like Silver Oak, etc.) their house Cabernet was $28 per glass! Our friends ordered 3 glasses and it cost us more then it would have to buy a nice bottle of wine! Their corkage fee is also exceptionally high at $30 a bottle. I would recommend getting only cocktails at this restaurant as they are of average price ($14 ea). Our bill for four people was over $260 and we had 4 pizzas, 2 appetizers, four glasses of wine and a cocktail. I think that is a bit much for pizza (albeit high end pizza).4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThe anacini appetizer is aThe anacini appetizer is a must and the Maserati cocktail too.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThe evening started out aThe evening started out a bit strange. We were made to wait for our table for one half hour and initially the hostess was not apologetic nor accommodating. Due to the fact that people use the bar as another way to enjoy a meal there is not space for people to wait for their table.
Once we sat down the evening turned into pure heaven. The only let down was the fact that our favorite dish is only served on weekends. Will remember that next time.
Excellent restaurant.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved our dining experience!Loved our dining experience! We had a late reservation but showed up early and ended up sitting on the patio which was perfect and less noisy. Very cosy and loved our waiter, Emily!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMIf you are going to go outIf you are going to go out and spend a bit of money it should be worth it. Mozza does it all.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved our dinner on SaturdayLoved our dinner on Saturday night, everything was amazing, and our service was GREAT!!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, too crowded and noisyThe food is fabulous here -- definitely worth paying the extra cost for the quality of the ingredients and the delicious pizza crust. The fennel sausage is out of this world. The decor is simple but sophisticated. However, the noise level and crowded conditions are ridiculous! The tables are packed together and the music and bar scene were so loud you could more easily hear the person at the next table than you could the person sitting across from you. Also, the markup on wines is crazy high (with a $30 corkage!). It's great if you want a happening scene, but not so good if, like most foodies, you actually want to talk while eating, or linger over a glass of wine.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was fantastic. TheirFood was fantastic. Their spring menu has some wonderful grilled asparagus and the lasagna is divine. Great desserts. Especially the Meyer lemon pie.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWe couldn't have asked forWe couldn't have asked for a better way to finish up our trip to Southern California. The burrata, meatballs and arancini were terrific starters and the pizza was out of this world. I was only sad that I didn't leave enough room to try dessert.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMVery nice pizza joint. VeryVery nice pizza joint. Very interesting and exciting menu...The meat lover pizza is a must!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were ignored by the waitWe were ignored by the wait staff at first. Got water, ordered a drink and then no one came to take our order for quite some time. The great host that night came by and we told him and another gal who was not our server and from that moment on we got very nice service. The food was so delicious, I want to come back as soon as possible. Love the dressing on the insalata tricolore.. A little piece of Italy right here in our own backyard.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMMy new little gem.Wonderful experience, the food was out of this world - outstanding. Would not say it's a romantic setting, the tables are too close together but a fun little gem.3/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWe sat at the pizza bar andWe sat at the pizza bar and were able to watch as the wonderful food was being cranked out! Everything we had was fresh, flavorful, and wonderful. The mozzarella with pesto and roasted tomatoes is a must eat, and the portions were all generous. From Appetizer to dessert, everything was special. We'll have to go back and try the whole menu!3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMAsk prices on specials!Best pizza ever, hands down. Outstanding Lunch! Only 2 complaints were:
- very noisy
- server gushed about a burrata special being amazing, so we ordered it (yes it was delish) but she failed to mention that it would cost twice as much as anything else we ordered. If an app is $25 & all others on menu are $8 or $12, you need to mention the price. There were other dishes on the menu with burrata, so we were annoyed when we got the bill. It slightly soured an otherwise perfect lunch.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMAll expectations exceeded! My friends and I have been waiting, waiting, waiting to go to Pizzeria Mozza, Newport Beach! We were thrilled to get reservations and even MORE thrilled to experience the wonderful ambiance, charming wait service and, of course, fantastic pizzas. Three of us shared two over-the-moon pizzas, the butterscotch budino e tre gelati deliziosi. Fantastico!!!3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMuncharacteristicly Newportuncharacteristicly Newport Beach; from the attentative bar keep to our energetic, knowledgable waiter (Kevin) to the ever-so-gracious & charming manager.
With these accoutrements and an execution of simple, fresh, well prepared dishes--Mozza should be on everyone's radar.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMMy vegetarian friend ravedMy vegetarian friend raved about the squash blossom/burrata pizza. Best pizza she has had since her trip to Italy a few years ago. And, she lives in West LA where there are quite a few upscale/trendy restaurants.3/9/2013 12:00:00 AMMozza NewportWe've been long time fans of both Nancy and Mr. Batali (btw, congrats to Nancy and her James Beard Nomination) and are becoming regulars at the Newport Beach Mozza (as I've closed up my LA home). Each and every time, from the warm greeting at the door, through every delicious meal (whether it be lunch or dinner) to the attentive service - Mozza Newport is becoming a weekly ritual for my immediate family as well as entertaining friends and clients. Enough said?1/1/0001 4:00:00 PM
