Diner Reviews
  • "Let me start by saying that we are fairly easy to please. In addition to that, we have rarely met a pizza that we could not find a way to like in some way. The people who work at this restaurant are nice, but he service is incredibly SLOW. The pizza is soggy and the flavor is poor. If you are a pizza snob, you will not like Mozza. In addition to slow service and bad pizza, the food is really over priced. For example, I started with a $15 Kale salad that was tiny. In total, our bill was surprising high given what we ordered. This would not bother us if the food was good, but bad food and slow service does not go well with high prices."

  • "This restaurant has become one of our favorites to go to. We have been to the one in LA twice, and are so happy that they built one closer to us in Newport Beach. This restaurant is one of those when you look at the menu it's hard just to pick one appetizer or one pizza. Everything is so good and we always try something new. You can't go wrong with pizzeria mozza!"

  • "The pizzas are amazing (thin crispy crust) but don't miss out on the other items. I enjoy the meatballs and budino."

  • "Love the creative topping combinations on their pizzas. Arugula salad was quite refreshing"

  • "Very nice, high quality food, ends up pricier that at first appears due to the numbers of small dishes. Salads were expensive but fantastic. Nice quiet tables available for discussions."

  • "The food is unbelievable!! I've been here a few times and the food never ceases to amaze me. Everything I've tried has been out of this world. Worth the price."

  • "Three of us dined at Mozza to celebrate a birthday. Our reservation was early, and the restaurant was full when we left. We had several waiters, and all were outstanding - we had just the right amount of attention without being obnoxious. Our first waiter suggested an excellent wine, and also recommended the fresh bufala appetizer - amazing! The combination of the creamy cheese and outstanding garlic bread was delicious. We also had the grilled asparagus, and it was perfect. One friend and I shared the goat cheese pizza, and really enjoyed it. Perfect crust, very fresh ingredients. The birthday girl chose the mint ice cream pie. Also perfect - not too sweet and very generous in size. We will be back!"

  • "Our second time to this restaurant and it was better than the first. My wife ordered the cauliflower appetizer which was outstanding (and I don't usually like cauliflower). We were seated at our table immediately upon arrival."

  • "Really good pizza - fresh ingredients, thin & crispy crust."

  • "We had reservations for 7pm on a Sunday evening but were not seated until almost 7:30 because they were a bit over booked. The staff were very apologetic and did their best to accommodate us. We wound up having to be seated outside as the table we were supposed to have was still occupied. However, they gave us two complimentary appetizers as a thank you to us for being so patient. The food and service were wonderful as always."

  • "I friend recommended us to your place, the Pizza was okay, but not the greatest since the style of the pizza is not the traditional style with the crust and cheese covering it. It had a delicious crunchy crust but with nothing covering it so after while the taste is dull, only in the center it came with 4 balls (small) of buffalo cheese, a few very thing slice of ham and some black olives..Unfortunately there were more bare crust than anything else. Now the be fair the desert and espresso (coffee) was delicious"

  • "As always, the food here is outstanding but the service was poor on a slow night."

  • "I took my boyfriend here for his birthday.... Fantastic food, okay service. For two the bill was about 90 and that was with appetizer. Wine averages 15 dollars a glass. The bread is the BEST THING on the planet... paired with caprese salad/appetizer... perfection. Pizza is delicious. Service was slow.. but it was nice that we didn't feel rushed. Calm romantic fun date night :)"

  • "I have never had a more delicious pizza in my life, although the imported burrata and freshly grilled garlic bread was almost enough to bypass the pizza! Add a chopped salad and finish off with the caramel copetta (burnt caramel, salted peanuts, and homemade marshmallow make this the perfect salty/sweet satisfier), and you'll have had so many flavors burst in your mouth, you'll need to take a nap after all that excitement (and carbs)."

  • "I love this place. It is so well done and the food is just delicious. I am going to make a point of going here at least once per month. Nicely done Mozza!"

  • "Came here with another couple @ 8:30pm and up until 9:30pm....we had to yell across our small table to hear eachother. Sommelier seemed to fumble through the wine list as though she's never seen it before -I've seen it many times and its not a huge selection and it never changes(???). Service seemed rushed to get us out by 10pm. Food was good, but for a group of 4 with one bottle of wine... $300 bucks was a bit much for the mediocre wine selection and service."

  • "My family and I love this place! We stumbled upon the LA location a few years ago when looking for a nice place to take out of town guests. Loved the experience! Such a unique menu, unlike any Italian restaurant we had ever been to before. We were so excited when we discovered that they have a location in New Port Bch. which is even closer to home for us and has a nice outside seating area as well. We love to go to Mozza for special occasions! Highly recommend this place for any foodie that wants to try something a little different."

  • "We got 2 of the meat lover's pizza, and 2 of the alla bueno, the yukon potato and egg, and margherita! The alla bueno was the best one. However, one of the pizzas had a burnt crust which is not standard to what I've seen from the restaurant so the pizzas overall was just alright. I went to celebrate my 25th birthday. We had a pie from another restaurant that we wanted to serve but found out that their policy now states that they would not serve outside food because a previous mishap occurred. This is a dumb policy. If you just have alright food, but fantastic service, you're going to come back for more. Our server of the night, Josh, was providing a service that most restaurants don't and was scolded for it. We didn't like that."

  • "I've been coming to Pizzeria Mozza since it opened and still find it to be solid. The Mussels al Forno with salsa calabrese continue to be a favorite because of the highly developed flavors of the dish. Will keep coming back."

  • "The pizza is the best I've had outside of Frank Pepe's in New Haven, Connecticut. And if you know your pizza you'll know Pepe's. The pizza was very flavorful, the sausage was incredibly delicious and the salads were excellent. The restaurant staff was very accommodating and helpful. It was a wonderful dining experience. Tony"

  • "I have never written a restaurant review but I really felt one was necessary after our experience at Mozza. The food was mediocre and did not live up to the hype it has received. I had to laugh when I saw the size of the arancini! They were so small and lacked any resemblance to a true arancini. The pizza was soggy and all the ingredients oozed off as soon as you picked it up. It is a shame that most of your diners think this represents Neapolitan pizza. Having enjoyed many pizzas in southern Italy, I could only warn other diners that this is not the real deal! And the service was horrendous! We were rushed and our waiter was put off when we asked for recommendations especially with the wine options. Sorry, our dinner club won't return!"

  • "Awesome food as always, but the hostess needs to check her attitude at the door."

  • "Excellent creative pizzas, starters and desserts. Only complaint is the relatively small tables for four (the tables for two are more spacious per person). It is difficult to juggle the plates in the small space available."

  • "Heard a lot of good things about this restaurant and I finally got around to trying it. The salad was very good but also very large; suggest sharing one. The service was very prompt and helpful with someone always nearby. Good stuff. The apps were very interesting, try the meatballs. The pizza is where it is at though, really special. I don't know how they get that dough to perform but it is a one of a kind and delicious. Highly recommended."

  • "Service was horrific. Sat and waited 7min without being greeted by server. Had to ask server passing by if he was our server; he said yes. Waited 7 min for him to come back and take drink order. After waiting 5 more min the drinks arrived. Server never returned after that. Waited 10 more min and then began looking for server who was nowhere to be found; finally told hostess and she immediately jumped to action; she took our app order. Server never came by then apps arrived. Manager stopped to check so we asked him who was going to take entree order since server still had not checked on us; he said he would. This was our first visit and certainly not a restaurant we would return to since service could care less about you as a guest."

  • "Don't fret trying the items on the menu that you are not familiar with as the ingredient combination of the dishes is fantastic; Pecorino with shaved Brussels sprouts, almonds and mint was really good as was the Coach Farm Goat Cheese, Leeks, Scallions, Garlic & Bacon. Both are definite can't miss dishes!"

  • "If you are looking for some great thin crust pizza and authentic Italian cuisine you have come to the right place. We absolutely loved the sausage fennel pizza and the butternut squash bruschetta. It's a must go place. And also try the MoZza up in LA too!"

  • "You'll find the most creative and tastiest pizzas here! They also have an extensive wine list. I'd definitely recommend the white bean bruschetta to start! Enjoy!"

  • "Pizzeria Mozza has the best tasting pizza in OC. If you go early the noise level is tolerable. But like all the restaurants today, it gets Very noisy."

  • "We love the Pizzas at Mozza! The specialty crust pizzas are delicious. We love to share the Chopped Salad and a pizza...perfect lunch for 2!"

  • "Food was just okay. I was expecting more. The apps were salty and the pizzas are very pricey for what you get. The pizza crust, however, was very delicious, almost like eating a pastry crust! The noise level was very high if you like that kind of atmosphere."

  • "Sunday, 11:30 a.m. on a busy section of Coast Highway in Newport Beach. Restaurant has Old World trattoria look with a menu to match. Open kitchen is going to be fun to watch. Music, however, is loud, high energy American 80's. And did i mention, LOUD. So loud we asked if it could be turned down (not off, but down) so we could have a conversation over brunch. "I'll ask the manager, but Mr. Batali likes it this way." Manager agreed, evidently. Food is very, very good--as you would expect. But, conversation was quite impossible, so the pace was anything but leisurely. I won't go back. Too bad, because salad and pizza were both great."

  • "Pizzeria Mozza was the perfect alternative to the large seafood restaurants in Newport Beach. We four wanted a fun place with exceptional food. How pizza can satisfy so many tastes and preferences is surprising to me, but Mozza here and in Hollywood manages to do that. The antipasto choices and salads are superb. The wine list is a bit steep but we found something just right for us. Those of us who chose white thoroughly enjoyed a Sauvignon Blanc from the Adriatic region--completely new to us and delightful. Our server was lovely in her approach and totally on target in her suggestions."

  • "Excellent food, great service! We were celebrating my boyfriend's 40th and our server wished him a Happy Birthday when he walked up, which he loved. Reasonable prices, too....we had two cocktails at the bar first, two glasses of wine, an appetizer, two entrees and dessert for about $95. Not too bad for NB."

  • "Had the funghi pizza and chopped salad. Both were good but I'd consider them overpriced. For my taste, if I'm going to spend this much on pizza I'd much rather go to Neapolitain in Laguna. The pizzas have a bit more toppings and substance to them without losing quality, and crust is as good if not better. And on top of the difference in main course pizzas, the salads there are much much better, especially the kale salad."

  • "is amazing! Great food (mainly the salads and this amazing appetizer)... and great service. The restaurant is busy so a reservation is a must. I wasn't in love with the pizzas (they were good) but the salads, appetizers and wine is all that is needed. Nice wine list too!"
