Excellent food and service in a charming atmosphere. If you are over a certain age, bring your strongest reading glasses and a small flashlight to read the menu. Also, if you want to have a conversation be prepared to speak loudly and wear you hearing aides.

The menu is super amazing and changes very frequently, so I am excited to go back. I would say that the menu was oddly a little potato heavy when I went, but I am a sucker for potato pizza's so not really a complaint. Everything was delicious and came out at a great pace. I would like to suggest that they find some improvements to their seating service given that the floor plan is kind of a mess. While being seated I bumped into no fewer than three people, including the host, so clearly there is a flow problem. Better timing/awareness during seating could save that.

I started with a tasty cocktail called a Bear Medicine - basically a Bee's Knees shaken with some delicious berry shrub. We ordered a salad, meatballs and the chantrelle pizza. The meatballs were amazing! After them, the pizza seemed a little *meh*. I think the crust was a little too toasted/charred for my taste, but the toppings were awesome.

One of my favorite restaurants in Oakland - the food is always absolutely delicious and expertly prepared. The service is very friendly and attentive without a shred of pretension or attitude. The cocktail menu is very good, my favorite being the Leatherneck. Next time you're with a group of friends, ask your waitperson to "bring us food".

The restaurant was quite busy as we had made our reservations 2-3 weeks prior. The staff was very attentive and professional. I was impressed with the menu selection. They offer pizza but they also have a lot of other delicious dishes. We had the beet and avocado salad which was just the right size for a starter and was very flavourful. My friend ordered the fried chicken (which I would normally never eat) and I tasted it. The mix of spices was so rich and delicious. I had the margarita pizza which was also good. It is a happening place and was a very pleasant experience.

Simple menu, with good appetizers and great crust on the pizzas. We ordered 3 pizzas to try, and they came out timed well. However, the service was a bit uneven, and towards the end the server seemed to rush us out and suggested another party needed our shortly -- even though the restaurant was half empty! We took a hint and took our money elsewhere for our dessert and coffee...

Proud to call this a temescal/rockridge's neighborhood gem. Was thrilled when I found out 2 years ago that they are open in the mornings for the best doorstep sized toast I've had since childhood in Scotland, tea in a 'proper' teapot, as well as being able to buy the bread to go. Finally made it for dinner (my last night in the bay area before moving to Denver) and was equally as delighted with the experience. Amber lit ambience (tough to read the menus but our skin looked great), fun cocktail list, spacious booths. Loved the pizza, I'm a fan of the thinner crust, the group favorite was the chanterelle.Salads were difficult to choose from, went with the avocado and fennel.Great flavors all round. Yes. Happy. Hope to get back soon!

We had a 5:45 reservation and arrived on time. We ordered within 5 minutes of sitting down. The place was almost empty having just opened at 5:30. At 6:30, we still did not have our pizza. People who came in after us had finished and left. The waitress didn't seem to understand that we want to eat.

4th or 5th visit here. Everything still fantastic, esp. Gin n' Tonic, braised Pork, fig salad, Pasta (gemelli). Pizza was a little disappointing from how I remembered it. Not sure what was different, perhaps crust was a tad underdone.

We enjoy dining at Pizzaiolo mainly for the delicious food, though the atmosphere is often chaotic and noisy. Initially we were seated at a very small, wobbly table that was cramped by the window. They were very nice about switching us when I asked, but really they should either fix that table or make that section by the window more roomy for patrons.

Dinner at 6:00 pm on a Tuesday. The place was not crowded but by the time we left most tables were occupied. Service staff was excellent - cordial, attentive, and very helpful describing the menu items we asked about. Highlights - House-made bread is hearty with nice sourness. The avocado and fennel salad was bright and tasty. The scallops were perfectly seared. Can't go wrong ordering anything from Primi or Secondi. Love the crispness of the pizzas. This was our second time and we'll definitely go back.

As an Italian I was really impressed by their tomato sauce on that Margherita pizza. Took me back in time to when I used to have pizza with my grandparents in Naples. But, apart from Pizza, the Affogato dessert (gelato literally "drowned" in coffee) was of the highest quality. I also had a Porto (sweet dessert wine from Portugal) that, whilst not Italian, was also excellent. Great cocktails too.

The food and drinks here are amazing! I've been a couple of times before, once in the morning for their cafe hours (great pastries and coffee creations) and once for dinner with a large group. On this particular occasion the service left a lot to be desired. The hostess was unresponsive to several inquires about our reservation. We came about an hour ahead to sit at the bar. There were also many wait staff "serving" our table but we still managed to have to ask multiple times for bread refills. The main waitress also forgot or ignored our coffee order to accompany dessert. Overall service was just lackluster which is not normal for them. I would still highly recommend for the food, drinks and ambience.

Been coming here for years and this last visit was the slowest service ever. I realize you get busy, but to simply plunk down menus and then not revisit the table for ten minutes or more, well that is just not right. Once they got to us, all was good, but no water and no bread for a long while...

We were seated in the main part of the restaurant which was very crowded and extremely noisy. Pizzas were fresh and tasty, but pretty standard fare. The waiter bordered on being sassy. However, on a trip to the restroom, I noticed they have a beautiful outdoor space in back. I would recommend requesting that area if you choose to dine here.

incredible good eats! 3 of us thoroughly enjoyed crisp garden jems with perfect green goddess dressing and 2 pizzas and we still brought home leftover pizzas. enjoyed sausage and rapini pizza and the potato, pancetta, rosemary pizzas - they were heavenly!!! just like being back in italy - crispy crust, chewy inside - perfectly dressed. standing on the side to watch chefs top pizza - one shared some tips - big thank you to him. i want to come back to try the pasta and other dishes. i'm a big fan and will return when i come back to east bay.

This popular restaurant is always packed, but now reservations are taken. Even though there were empty tables when we arrived, we had to wait about 15 min to be seated. The pizza and salads were great as always. There are a few other items on the menu, but we come here for the pizza. The service is middle of the road. The restaurant is very noisy - lots of adults and kids talking loud, very loud music. Not a place for conversation. My friend has a hearing problem, and he was not happy at this restaurant.

Heard about Pizzaiolo through Diablo magazine. Asked my friend to take me here for my birthday dinner. We both order pizzas. Crust was on the thinner size but still chewy which I like. I also do like blistered crust, however, there were definite burnt areas that we both worked around. Other than that, the margherita and sausage/basil/green olive pizzas were very good. The starter bread is excellent. The restaurant does not serve ice tea or any sodas. The waitress suggested a house made tonic which was citrusy and very refreshing. We arrived at 5:45 and by the time we left at 7:30 (on a Wed), the restaurant was filled, but not too noisy. I would definitely return to try other items on the menu.

I loved this place! Friendly and helpful staff made several excellent recommendations. We started with a wood fired scallop appetizer with the most amazing roasted eggplant accompaniment. Next we had an order of the polenta with Gorgonzola (solid but not extremely exciting) and the pappadrelle with chicken and mushroom ragu that seriously blew my mind a little bit. It was incredible and I wanted seconds. Next, we had the potato, fontina, rosemary, pancetta pizza that was also good. The place was dead at 6:15 but really livened up by the time we left around 7:30ish
