The Copper Beech is a remarkable place to begin with, but the restaurant gives it a special appeal. The food is amazing and the presentation spectacular. It starts with the friendly service and great bartender, and the dinner was almost too pretty to eat. I thoroughly enjoyed my evening there and hope to return soon.

Had a reservation and didn't realize it was a prix-fixe menu because of Valentine's Day that was two days before. We were disappointed but decided to stay. We weren't disappointed. Even though there were only three entrees to choose from they were delicious. Would definitely go back to order off their regular menu.

We had booked for a Valentine's Day dinner and were not disappointed in the food. However, the service was very slow and erratic. Our waitress was very cheerful, but constantly seemed to have other things to do. We were seated at 7:30 pm and walked out at 10:30, a long time even for a four course dinner.

The service was excellent and the ambiance was very nice, but being valentines day they had a limited menu for some reason and I was not overly impressed with the selection. For the price we paid for our meal I really thought I should be wowed by the food, and I wasn't. It was good, but not great.

My arugula salad with salted roasted beets was a bust. Beets watery and out of a jar. My dessert of pineapple strips (too few) and cocoanut mousse was just passable. My husband's paella was overcooked and dry. the total bill was over $200 and though expected, the food was not exceptional enough to warrant the price. Respectfully, Gloria and Joseph Davenport

    1. I am sad to report that was previously a delightful and solid menu with solid "French Bistro" elements in Pips seems to have degenerated into slightly odd dishes with WAY too much fruit thrown into various dishes. (That trend has been long dead!) The food is still quite nice and well prepared but I was somewhat redfaced bringing my "foodie" friends there for this dinner given the current menu. Has the chef changed ?? 2. The wine list seemed bizarre as well. There seems to be no middle ground between inexpensive selections and crushingly pricey bottles. Still a pleasant evening but not close to what they have been before in our opinion.

Pip's is a charming spot inside of an old inn. The chef presented us with great food and good wine and drinks. The French onion soup won great praise and the striped bass and chicken goulash entrees were excellent. The whole experience was very comfortable and our party of 4 will go back soon.

Food was great. The reservation through Open Table did not mean anything as the restaurant was only doing early and late seating depending on your desire to be part of the "party". I only found this out through my own research and calling the restaurant who changed my dining time.

I would recommend. Pips with some reservations. The food was pretty good by Foodie standards. It was creative and fresh with adequate portion sizes. The service on the other hand was terrible. We were there New Years Eve which maybe was our first mistake. It was a pre fixe menu and the courses were served so fast we could barely put our forks down. The waitress was untrained in fine dining and it showed. We were in and out of there inu der an hour. There was no one to oversee the dining room, barely a welcome and no good bye. We dine out quite a bit and it was not what you would expect for $200 .

The menu is well thought out and the food exceptionally prepared. The staff is knowledgeable and attentive while remaining discreet. This is certainly one of Connecticut's best restaurants. There are two choices for dining rooms, a more formal room and the bar. My personal preference is for the bar room. Pip's should be on your must do list.

We dined at The Copper Beech Inn just weeks after the arrival of Chef Noel and had a spectacular dinner experience, service and all, that prompted our return with friends. This time, regretfully, the service was minimally attentive and at times uncomfortably inappropriate. In addition, the bread was borderline stale and had to be ripped apart, the waitress could not tell us what wad in our soup, the Caesar salad was unimpressive, and our entrees wete just ok. We wondered if Chef Noel was in the kitchen that night. Inconsistent food and service. We may not be back again.

We thought we would be eating in the large dining room, but apparently that is only open on weekends, so we were eating in the bar. It was a nice bar, but a bar nonetheless. The tables were close together and it was fairly noisy. The service was outstanding as was all the food except for the scallops. They were VERY salty. We stayed overnight and the breakfast the next day was fantastic - best eggs benedict we have ever had.

The presence of Noel Jones at Pip's drew us to dine for our anniversary dinner. While the food was quite good and meticulously prepared and presented, as we had hoped, the overall experience was less than stunning. The ambiance was generally tasteful, but not as elegant as we had remembered from past visits. The main course we had was very well prepared, but the accompaniments were unimpressively bland and scant. Dessert was delicately flavored and well presented. Overall, the experience was pleasant and repeatable if one were local, but it did not seem the destination restaurant we had imagined given Mr. Jones' culinary talent.

We had eaten at ON20 when Joel Lang was there, so we were anxious to explore his new venue. Overall, the expereience was very enjoyable, with a couple of caveats. We were happy with the bottle of wine that we ended up ordering, but the limited wine list made it a challenge. In response to our comment, our waittress shared that the wline list was in transition. The food preparation and flavors were really good - guess I would have been surprised if this wasn't the case! I was surprised with my salmon - I guess I'd expected a different presentation - but it was delicious. Again - overall it was a really enjoyable evening, and yes - we'll return!

Excellent food, very good service, comfortable setting. Noel Jones is a culinary master, and the service here mostly backs him up. I am no steak expert, but the best (i.e. most memorable) steak I have ever had was served here. An added bonus is this place's country setting, making it easy to park and comfortable (though long) to get to.

I had hoped and expected a more aggressive and creative menu with outstanding local fare, but I think the chef remains loyal to the Inn's conservative clientele and past history. While the amuse bouche of cream of chestnut soup with bacon and topped with salty/sweet pepita mix was absolutely outstanding, the rest of the offerings lacked this zip. You can't go wrong though in terms of consistency and quality - beef, pork, seafood and pasta/rice round out the dinner offerings while the appetizers are classics such as crab cake, foie gras, caesar salad, etc.

The food was fantastic. I was a bit disappointed in the seating arrangements. Part of the ambiance of the Copper Beach is the main dining room. Upon arrival for my 8:00 reservation, my party was seated in an adjacent room (that I've never been in before and I've been at the Inn at least 12 times for dinner)where the bar was located. I was seated at a very small table with a couple on either side of us no more than two feet away at their own tables. Forget about any intimate talk and ambiance! For the price you pay for meals and the reputation of the Inn, one should expect a bit more with regard to seating. For that, I was disappointed. It clouded what was a wonderful dinner.

My wife and I went to Pip's for the first time for out 1st anniversary. It was fantastic! The food was superb, wine list impressive and service was commendable. I know i only but 4 stars for service and that is ONLY because i prefer a waiter/waitress to introduce themselves to me, our waiter did not, but he was amazing non the less, even when i made him choose a desert for me. My wife had the duck breast which was moist and flavorful, i had the braised short ribs, which to my knowledge were the best ribs i have ever had. They fell apart of course, but the flavor and moisture were out of this world. We showed up way early so they offered for us to sit next to the fire and the maitre d' would have brought us drinks from the bar.

Long time fan of Pips, but haven't been in several months. Wasn't wowed like I always had been with Tylers dishes, and was disappointed to see that there are no pub/bar menu items like the tasty burgers or chicken. Would like to sit at the bar with a burger and beer on Friday night, but now it's only fine dining and fine dining prices. We'll try it again in a while and see what we think. The staff, as always, are fab and friendly.
