This is one of my favorite restaurants anywhere. There is not an area where they don't excel. Great care is taken to insure the best dining experience and the chef making personal contact with guests creates an atmosphere which makes the diner feel he is a guest at the chef's home.

Great place - surprised us. Food was great. Would come back again, even with all the great choices in SF. Veal stew was rich and flavorful. Foie Gras with calamari was....different....but you can't go wrong with Foie Gras. Duck breast was great. raw fish appetizer with oysters was not for everybody, but I personally enjoyed it.

This is the second visit and as out of towners we were equally impressed with the food and the service. This is not the traditional 'family style country Basque' food with large servings and robust foods. It has taken the flavors of the region and combined them with fresh Northern California foods to come up with a unique and exciting dining adventure. The daily specials are particularly appealing and include a choice of excellent desserts. Most highly recommended.

Piperade is a unique restaurant with excellent Basque food. Basque is apparently a region between France and Spain that has its own language that may be looking for its independence (according to the expert servers). The salad, cream of celery soup, veal stew, and vegetable mix were all delicious. And the filet of sole was outstanding. The dessert "cheesecake" was delicious.

We were slightly late for our reservation and added an extra person and we were accommodated easily. The pacing of the meal was excellent and the food outstanding. Outstanding combinations in the dishes, including a sauteed squid dish with foie gras and a slighly spicy seafood stew were delicious, as was another appetizer of bacalao and deliciously briny oysters. Following this, my first visit to Piperade, Hirigoyen has maintained his streak of outstanding restaurants. I will definitely return.

Had never had Basque food before but Piperade is now a favorite. Wife had the sole and said it was some of best fish she'd ever had. I had the steak with onion glaze and it was delicious. Loved the garlic soup (with egg and bread in it) and the gateaux Basque was a simple but flavorful almond cake. Try the Picon punch--a traditional Basque cocktail with a Campari-style flavor; after the second sip it really grows on you. Our terrific server was knowledgeable and engaging and even funny without being over-familiar. If you're not familiar with Basque cuisine, the servers will make great recommendations. The tables are very close together and it can be a bit noisy but not a problem. Absolutely will go back next time in San Francisco.

Exquisitely prepared Basque fare in a intimate, comfortable environment. Our waiter was great, and paired some wonderful wines with the dishes we ordered. A buddy and I started with the artisan cheeses and the Calamari a la Plancha, both superb. I moved to the lamb chops, sausage and shoulder, while he had the roasted shellfish. Again, stellar choices. We finished with wonderful desserts. We both concluded that it was one of the best restaurants we had been to, and I eat out every meal at excellent restaurants, although mostly in Marin.

I brought five co-workers to Piperade before our office party. We were promptly seated and received excellent service throughout our meal. I asked about a couple of Spanish wines and our server generously poured tastes of both so I could make a more informed selection. We opted to order only tapas, and despite a flurry of small plates, the servers timed everything nicely. The table agreed that the goat cheese stuffed pepper was a highlight, as was a rich ham and manchego torte. My only qualm was with the crab cakes, which were browned beautifully but tepid inside. Enjoyed the food and was particularly appreciative of the warm and helpful service.

A perfect restaurant! Perfectly delicious food. At Piperade, they know their stuff. The dungeness crab salad was a generously portioned and superb, light dressing complimented with red pepper and mangoes and matching dab of their respective sauces. Seared tuna salad also delicious. The sparkly basque white wine, super dry and yummy. Dessert was quince clafoutis - not too sweet. Along with Kokkari, my neighborhood favorite.

My family (husband and two teenage boys) went to Piperade for Christmas Eve dinner. I have to admit I was a little surprised when we were seated as I did not know that prix fixe was the only option for dinner. On the other hand we had a great evening...the food was great and the service was excellent. The gal who waited on us was originally from the Basque region and was both considerate and fun and went a long way to make it a special evening. All the entrees we had - steelhead, lamb chops and duck were delicious. Dessert was good too and all four of us left happy and full!

Been going here for years, always enjoy the dishes and the service. For lunch my friend had the chicken sandwich, she enjoys the manchego cheese. I opted for two small plates - the "fresh in season" dungeness crab "starter" plus piquillo peppers stuffed with goat cheese - with raisins sprinkled around. Delicious looking and flavorful. We split the orange blossom beignets for dessert - light, airy and fabulous with coffee or espresso. It's so nice to have such lovely basque-influenced menu items to choose from. A nice break from all the holiday fare.

Loved the ambiance, the food was delicious, the waiter had absolutely no personality and was hoity. I really can't tolerate such attitude. In addition, he never addressed my 19 year old daughter who happened to order the most expensive entrée at our table. I came on recommendation of Narsai David's but this server is NOT what he would have anticipated! Food and ambiance are only 2/3 the enjoyment equation.I would return again but point out and refuse this server's table.

My wife and I live in Denver and when in San Francisco, we finish off our stay with a lunch, this time, or dinner at Piperade. Our recent December trip was so-so on eating, with a long wait at Swan's Oysters and a split decision on another place. Fortunately, we booked lunch with Piperade and all other lines and meals melted away. Great food. Great service. Very friendly. This was our fourth visit and we look forward to our fifth.

I can't say enough good things about Piperade. Good, soul satisfying and worth every penny. Between the two of us, we ordered mixed drinks,a soup, 2 appetizers, 2 mains, a side and 2 desserts. Every item was spot on, well balanced, tasty and perfectly portioned. That does not happen very often for us, as we both have food allergies. Service was great as well! Couldn't have asked for more.

Piperade was beautifully decorated. The location was ideal...plenty of parking. Our waiter was polite, but we didn't interact with him too much. Our appetizers, (Calamari and Stuffed Piquillo peppers), were excellent. Dinner was average. I enjoyed my Roast Lamb but not the potatoes that came with it. The dark chocolate cake was also good.
