A word from Piora
Piora, which means “to blossom” in Korean, is nestled in the West Village on Hudson Street and features a serene and intimate dining room that overlooks a private garden. Chef Christopher Cipolline has created an innovative, yet approachable menu that is complimented by the service, which is both personable and refined. Reservations for the main dining room are recommended, however a few tables in the foyer are reserved exclusively for walk-ins, as are the seats at the bar, where the full menu is available.Continued

  • "I was at one of my favorite restaurants (The Nomad) on Thursday, and I am glad to report that Piora is every bit as good (this was my 2nd visit). It is superb, with great service and wonderful food. The carrots, the suckling pig and the Sunchoke are all highly recommended. The one dish that slightly disappointed was the much lauded Monkey Bread (for which, unfortunately, there is a charge), but all in all, it was spectacular. If I have one other (slight) knock, I would say it could offer a few more reasonably priced wines. But that is a very small gripe regarding what otherwise was a great dining experience."

  • "The food was good and well presented. However, the service is overbearing and the restaurant makes a concerted effort to sell you more than you actually want. As an example, when we arrived for our reservation, we were told our table was not yet ready and told to wait at the bar and asked if we wanted to order a drink. We decided we were going to order a bottle of wine, and as soon as we notified the server of this, we were immediately taken to our table in a half full dining room as the only reason we were made to wait was in the hope of selling each of us a cocktail. These kinds of things make what would otherwise have been a pleasant meal something less than that."

The service was very well mannered and informed but felt too technical at times. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a fun and interesting meal.   • "Simon Kim & Chris Cippolone have created a fabulous restaurant that I plan on going back to many times. The decor, the service, the cocktails, the vibe, the wine list and knowledge are excellent: food; WOW! beautifully plated food wo being fussy, just the right blend of flavors; the menu is so well balanced that anyone can find a dish. THe monkey bread is a must (delicious warm tear apart dinner rolls), I am a huge crudo fan and this one is top rated. Everyone is doing some octopus dish but Chris takes it one step ahead by BBQing it…this is a MUST! Then Rohan duck: how do they get two perfect rectangles of meaty, juicy, silken flavorful duck breasts like these? Agnolloti also impressive as were the desserts. I am so going back!"

  • "The food here is very good and I especially appreciate the really excellent preparation of vegetable appetizer and side dishes. The carrots and the market vegetables were both delicious. My entree was the Bucatini and it was also excellent.The space is small and limiting so go with a small group. When we tried to add a couple to our reservation (going from 3 to 5 people) they could not/would not accommodate us."

  • "Not bad....actually a very good spot. Small dining room which works to set a very nice atmosphere. The food was really interesting and well prepared. The carrot appetizer was incredible. Normally, cooked carrots are not on my list of things to try. In this case....well worth it! The oysters were from the West Coast and delicious! Shared the beef dish for 2. It was cooked perfectly and seasoned very well. We were stuffed...so there was no room left for dessert. The drinks were well made, the Leaves Falling was a particular gem. Note that it is a little pricey, so this is not an every week kind of place to visit. However I will be returning in the future!"

  • "Lunch at Piora was a lovely experience - 3 course meal $28. Started off with the asparagus veloute with dungeness crabs and trout roe; texture, temperature, and flavors all worked well. For entree I had the bucatini of black garlic with dungeness crab, chilis, and maitake mushrooms (supp of $12). The pasta was al dente, generous amount of crabs, and the asian flavors melded well. A successful dish that I feared was bordering salty but ha, finished every bit of. Although I found some small shells, which I addressed, I still highly recommend the dish. Dessert of panna cotta with roasted peaches, crumbled graham crackers, and seaweed was a strong finish. The service is warm and genuine, right amount of conversation and attention."

I absolutely loved the duck sausage with red wine rigatoni, the pasta heightened the flavor of the dish and cooked to a perfect al dente! The duck with farro was delicious! Our desserts left us blown away. I want to come back very soon and reccomend to many!"

  • "The food here was great and the service friendly, but the small dining room was overpowered by one incredibly loud table that sort of ruined my meal. There were 8-9 tables dining, and from what I could see at least 5 spent their meals looking at the loud table with expressions of despair/hatred (two were out of my view). I'm not sure how a restaurant should approach this situation, but Piora did nothing -- they were joking with the table, as if nothing were amiss. Maybe they were afraid of offending, I don't know. But it was a really irritating way to spend a meal. We live 2 blocks away and eat most of our meals in the neighborhood, so we are used to high noise levels, but this was different. All was quiet after that table left."

  • "We went at 6:30 on a Monday night and had to wait 25 minutes for cocktails from the bar, even though there was only one other table seated in the entire dining room. At the same time we ordered their"monkey bread" as something to nibble while we sipping on our cocktails and looking at the menu. We watched as other tables were seated, drinks were poured and monkey bread starting come out for the other tables that had ordered after us....By the time the bread showed up, we'd already ordered our meal, finished our cocktails and were literally being poured the wine to go with our appetizers. The runners were lost with food in the hall. Pasta was too salty to eat and I love salt! wanted to love it as we live a block away. what a waste of money."

  • "I have to say that my boyfriend and I dine out quite frequently, nearly 5 nights a week. We do tend to have our top favorites, veering off our natural course ever so often. We decided to give Piora a try -- it could not have been a better decision. We had the following dishes: Cocktails -- Falling Leaves was the favorite, while all were incredibly prepared. Monkey bread -- served hot with lardo spread, a must Carrots -- cooked 3 ways, divine. Crudo -- light, citrus, full of flavor Tortellini -- best I have ever had, would love to try more pasta Cote de Boeuf -- BEST STEAK OF ALL TIME, served with magical potatoes which remind me of classic tater tots. This is a special, so pray they are serving this when you dine. 100% a new favorite."

  • "Glad that we booked this on a whim and not for a special occasion. The octopus was way too charred and the taste of ash overwhelmed everything else on the dish. They also had a lobster/truffle pasta special; it seems hard to mess that combination but we found it very dry. Finally, the "monkey bread" was more like six tiny potato rolls and there is just no justification for charging customers for them."

  • "Overall a very enjoyable evening to celebrate my wife's birthday (party of 4). Service was terrific, except I would recommend that they smooth out the front desk reception when the maitre d isn't there. The food was really well thought out, complex but not weird. Compliments to the kitchen. My cocktail, Fallen Leaves, was super, but my wife's, Salty Dog, was rather bitter and simple. The dining area is really small and the noise level crept up over the evening. But they do a great job with the space they have. I would go back."

  • "Grilled Octopus - 2.5/5, deliciously smoky but without the sauces thought, this dish is very salty. Rohan Duck - 4/5, The duck skin was crispy contrasting perfectly with the meat part - medium rare, juicy and tender. Bucatini - 1/5. The dish was very very salty and oily, the crab was broken down to tiny pieces, I could not taste the crab at all. I found shells of the crab stuck between my teeth. I mentioned the issues to the manager, he admitted that they have issue with consistency with this dish and that he will let the chef know, so he can do better next time. But I will not return next time. There are many restaurants to choose from in NY, I do not have the confidence in this restaurant to keep all my guests satisfied."

  • "We had a 5:30pm reservation. We arrived at 5:20pm but were not allowed in (through the front door) till 5:38pm in the middle of winter in NYC. Then we were told after an hour and a half, the host needed the table for 7:30pm. I could go on, but it was just unpleasant and odd for a New York dining experience."

  • "One of the best meals I've eaten in a long time...and I dine out quite frequently. Food was really outstanding, as was the service. Ordered the scallops, rigatoni w/duck sausage & ocean trout. Scrumptious! Save room for desert - the chocolate tort w/raspberries & pistachios was a perfect way to end the meal. I do see people rave about the monkey bread...while very yummy, if you've been to Quality Meats/Italian, it's exactly like that bread which they serve there for free, so maybe not worth it here. Although, the whipped lardo does compliment it quite well. But just an overall fantastic dining experience!"
