My wife and I went to Pio Pio for my son’s birthday on a weeknight. It was convenient since he lives in Hell’s Kitchen. I had been trying to get a weekend reservation in the past but could not. Heard good things about this place from friends. You walk into a small lobby with a black curtain (entry to the restaurant) and are greeted. Not sure what was behind the curtain….was a nice surprise. Very large restaurant with a nice size bar and a second level. The red sangria is incredible, the paella was unique in that it was in a red sauce, also very good. Service was good, although our waitress did disappear every now and then. This was a nice dining experience, wasn’t cheap, I recommend for a nice dinner or special occasion.

The food was excellent. The ambiance was perfect. I could not stop looking at the decor. Our food came out very quickly. We were not rushed out of the restaurant when we finished our meal. Everyone should try this place at least once. You most likely would want to return. Thanks PioPio for a splendid night.

We were a party of 6, with two out-of-towners headed to a Broadway show afterwards. I was the only one familiar with Peruvian food, but everyone enjoyed the meal, especially the "causa" with tuna, the cebiche limeño, and the aji de camarones (shrimp with a creamy garlic sauce). And the pisco sours (both the regular and the maracuya--my personal favorite) were a big hit. The biggest surprise, though, were the desserts, which were unusually good (we shared flan, tres leches, and the alfajores). I had also asked in advance for a quiet spot and they seated us at a lovely table in a sort of alcove that made conversation much easier. It makes such a difference when restaurants are responsive to such a request. I will definitely be back.

I love everything about this place. It's become very popular so I always make a reservation. They even granted my request of being seated on the 'balcony.' Food, service and ambiance are fantastic. It can be a little loud but that's just cause folks are happy to be there.

Had a great time at PioPio. Juanita's chicken is to die for and really was the highlight of the meal. We ordered the Matador combo and it is certainly enough food to feed 4 people. You really want to sit in the main dining area downstairs though as we were seated by the front door/bathroom and is was much too cold. The noise level here is a bit deafening and you certainly do get the feeling that they want to turn your table over quickly. Service was attentive and you definitely get your money's worth.

We went to Pio Pio for my boyfriends birthday with a group of 12 people. The service was attentive for the large group and everyone's meal came out at the same time, which was great. I had the spanish fried rice, which was good, but reminded me wayy to much of thai food. The tres leche was just okay, I've had better elsewhere. The sangria is a must! Lots of fruit, unlike other places where they skimp out on it. I'd def go here again.

This restaurant has nothing special to offer. They seem to care less. The room was dirty. The carpet was unclean. The menus were at least twenty years old. The restaurant has nothing on the menu that sets them apart from any other no name Indian restaurant. The menu was so generic that I wondered if they even cared that they had customers to serve and food to prepare. The Vegetable Samosa was purely old bland potatoes with one found mushy pea in the middle. The rice could easily have been two or three days old. It was tasteless. If I had not asked for the highest level of spice on my chicken dish it too would have tasteless. Don't waste your money or your time on this very unhappy restaurant.

Mainstream Peruvian cuisine is typically associated with two dishes: "Pollo a la Brasa" (Rotisserie Chicken) and Ceviche. Pio Pio in HELLS KITCHEN make good on delivering on both. The chicken is seasoned well, and is nice and juicy. The ceviche is great as well, although I personally like it with a spicy kick. In order to balance this review out, I do want to point out that the "Papita Huancaina" was missing something (the right cheese, I think) as did the "Causita." That being said, I will gladly come back. The servers were pleasant (they sang Happy Birthday to my mom) and the ambiance is great. I would recommend this to friends and others.

everytime i am in NY, i make sure to come to this restaurant. i will move things around just so i can come here. the bartender is hilarious..kept me entertained as i waited for my table. service at the front staff could be better. i arrived 30 min before my actual reservation, hoping to see if they could already fit me in, but knew that if they couldn't, i'd wait 30 min..which was fine.. except, i waited an additional 30 min after my reservation time.. the lack of service from the front was at least made up by the attentive bartender and the restaurant staff.. food is always exceptional!

Pio Pio and its delicious food now ranks at the top of my culinary experiences. I began with Pio Pio's amazing "Piscorinha" cocktail; their take on the famous Caipirinha from Brazil. This was my first taste of Pisco and thus Brazilian/Peruvian marriage goes down unbelievably smooth with flavors that satisfy with every taste! My meal was the real highlight! I had the Camarones Cuzco. This dish is a combination of perfect plump shrimp, a bed of amazingly well seasoned rice and the star: the unbelievable aji amarillo sauce. Folks, if I could have an endless supply of this sauce, I would eat it with every meal!!! You really owe it to yourself to experience Pio Pio! I will return everytime I'm in New York.

So I brought my honey out to dinner to Pio Pio for a "date night" and as we gazed across the table at each other and shared our inside jokes a person behind him laughed loudly and we were struck by how much fun two large tables beside us and behind us were having. We were surrounded! A Bachelorette celebration on one side and a big birthday party on the other. It was a lively night and once our dinner came we were laughing and chatting and chewing along with everyone else. If you want a quiet evening for two the family style atmosphere of the lower dining room is NOT for you. The volume can be "extra" with large groups around BUT if you and your "Bae" can sit closer and connect over good drinks (the sangria pitcher is worth it) and great food (I don't know what that green sauce is but it's ALL love) then the walls could be coming down for all you care.

We were looking forward to dinner at Pio Pio. The barkeeps were good and made good Pisco Sours. While the food was very good, the overall experience was fair. We shared the beef heart appetizer which was very tasty. I had the chef's choice ceviche as my main course. All four were delicious. My wife had the empanadas and tamale appetizers as her entree. The tamale was okay while the empanada was excellent. Our server was condescending verging on arrogant. We questioned him regarding the constantly flickering lights. His reply was a no reply. The lighting issue was very annoying. Other diners commented on the lighting issue. if the barkeeps were only average the service would have received a poor rating. Pio Pio is a no no.
