Diner Reviews
  • "Three of us went here on a Friday evening and sat outside. Appetizers were terrific but our entrees ranged from above average to over-cooked. The staff was fairly attentive and VERY friendly. However, as things got busy (we'd arrived fairly early in the evening), we saw less and less of them and waited nearly an hour for our entrees to arrive. FYI, Pinoy is located on a pedestrian-only street, which during the summer, features live music on the weekends. The band this night was not bad but they were too loud for us to have a comfortable conversation at our table. All-in-all, not the best dining experience I've ever had but there were enough high points that I plan to give them another chance."

  • "I'd never had Phillipino food before, so this was a new experience, and I wasn't sure what to expect. The food was good, carefully prepared, nicely presented. The service was great - a very helpful young woman who wasn't afraid to guide our choices, which I always appreciate, especially when I'm not familiar with the cuisine. After dinner, the owner/chef came out and chatted with us for a while, and gave us a preview of coming attractions. Con - the menus looked like little take-out ones, and mine was scribbled on, should have been discarded - but (a Pro) it was great to sit outdoor on Division St. and watch the people going by while we ate."

  • "This new place in Somerville offers real Philippine food. I am not really a good judge of the authenticity, not having eaten Philippine food before, but we found the food a bit unusual, and quite tasty. It's in a converted storefront, so the decor is basic, but the service is helpful and attentive, and we enjoyed the meal. Being able to sit outside on a nice day is a real plus. My husband had the pork adobo, which was tasty and very tender; i had the bokchoy and tofu, which had a very tasty sauce. And the highlight was a dessert called bibingka - sweet rice cake and mango ice cream. "

  • "Writing a fair review is difficult for me due to the fact that the main course was not at all to my liking. I was and still am not familiar with Filipino cuisine and didn't know that the pork dish I had would be so fatty. The first couple of bite were crispy and good, but the fat soon was too much for me. The presentation of the food added to the feeling "too much" because it was served in a heap of bones and meat. Again, maybe this is the authentic style to cook it, but just not for me. The appetizer and the dessert were good. The service was very good and at least in my case made up for the not so thrilling food experience. If you would ask my husband, he would probably say it was good. He didn't mind the fat as much as I did."
