Diner Reviews
  • "Food and service were excellent! Great experience!"

  • "The food was outstanding...especially the pea salad!! The waiter knew we were headed for a show at Segerstrom Center but by the time we received our check, we were VERY nearly late despite being on time for a 5:30 reservation for a 7:30 performance. A disappointing end to an otherwise lovely evening..."

  • "We arrived on-time for a 5:45 reservation to have dinner prior to attending the symphony. Neither the restaurant nor the bar was busy. It took 20 minutes to get a drink, and an hour to receive the appetizer we ordered. Neither the waiter nor the manager paid any attention to this problem until we started complaining. They did comp us drinks and the appetizer, but it turned what should have been a pleasant meal into a stressful experience, because we had tickets to the symphony following dinner and had a time schedule to keep, a detail which the waiter was aware of. The octopus appetizer was quite good, but the main courses (mussels for me, chicken for my husband) were average. No time to consider coffee or dessert due to the delays."

  • "I'd been to Pinot Provence for restaurant week and it was stellar! Perfection. Came back for brunch and I couldn't believe I was at the same restaurant. Very slow service - we waited at least 20 minutes just to get a glass of wine! Food was average - when the entree finally arrived it was tepid without sauce. The whole experience was such I probably won't go back. Too bad."

  • "Food here is greatly improved. Restaurant seems to be earning back some of its old customers. Service needs some work - they are slow, somewhat confused and don't seem accustomed to having a room full of clients."

  • "Food was excellent. Waiter and service was very helpful and excellent"

  • "Very good food, good service. Perfect pre-theatre dinner"

  • "We took advantage of the 2-course brunch with endless Mimosas, Bellini's, or Bloody Mary's. The Pinot Provence Bellini and cucumber Bloody Mary were delicious. The presentation of the dishes was simple but striking. We had the French Onion Soup, Exotic Fruit Salad, Egg in a Hole and Eggs Benedict. Overall very well done. The best part was the Salted Caramel Bread Pudding with Green Apple Gelato. Service was excellent, we even over heard our server deftly handling a table with several special orders and he was friendly, professional and personable the whole time. Will definitely be back before the next matinee at Segerstrom."

  • "We are season ballet ticket holders-and have a season "date" with Pinot for the entire year. This is now going on ten years. the ballets vary in talent and charm, but Pinot never does."

  • "Awesome meal. We had the chopped salad, the short ribs and the salmon. No corkage fee was an unexpected and welcomed surprise."

  • "After all these years adjacent to the Segerstrom center/South Coast Rep, PINOT should be prepared/experienced handling the theatre rush. We arrived for our 6:15 reservation and were encouraged to sit in the bar for over 20 minutes. Lo and behold the bartender comped our cocktails. That was helpful. Yet once escorted to our table, it was to a table that was open when we originally arrived. HMMMM. The bread/salad/appetizers arrived fairly quickly, but we waited and waited and waited for the main courses with regular apologies from our server and maître 'd on the daily. Once arrived, entree were well prepared and indeed tasty. Good thing we had an 8pm curtain time. Not what you would expect from the PINOT brand--Good food nonetheless."

  • "We had reservations for 6:15 p.m. on a Sat. night. When we arrived at 6:15 they were not ready for us--no table ready. The restaurant was crowded because people were eating before a 7:30 p.m. performance at the Segerstrom. We were seated about 10 minutes after arrival at a small table in a poor location of the restaurant. It is not one I would have chosen, but the restaurant was crowded so we had not choice. The waiter was very pleasant and knowledgeable about the evenings food and wine. Overall, the food was decent and the atmosphere was pleasant, but for the seating."

  • "Great food. The dishes were great. The clams boullibase was outstanding as were the cassuleuts. They are getting ready to redo the wine list which is desperately needed. Our server was sweet but had no idea about the dishes and how to serve and open wine! We will definitely be back as this is one of our favorite OC restaurants."

  • "My Husband and I had to skip our annual vacation to Paris this year, so my husband surprised me with dinner at Pinot. Our first time and won't be the last. Authentic French Food we dove into the Frog Legs and Escargot. Entrees were exquisite with the duck for myself and then my husband veered off the beaten path and got the Kansas City Steak! We both agreed that the steak was better than anything we have eaten at Mastro's or Capital Grille. Our only complain was the lack of desserts. There is nothing French about them and I was hoping for a Souffle. The chocolate molten cake did suffice. As for service they were professional, courteous and fun. We will definitely be back as we might of found our new favorite restaurant."

  • "For years, we've been choosing Pinot Provence for our pre-concert meal mainly because of the no corkage fee policy since there are several excellent food choices in the area. This time we told our server that we were in a time-bind and gave him the exact time we needed to have our check and be gone. In spite of the warning, our entree arrived 25 minutes after the salad course was cleared and 45 minutes from our order time. This left us with 15 minutes to eat, order coffee (we had to get to-go cups) and settle the bill. As always, the food was terrific but as happens often, the service was less than perfect. Note: I always tell the server up front how fast or slow we wish to proceed. Sometimes they listen, sometimes they don't."

  • "Very confusing and disappointing night. We weren't in a big hurry, but the service was so slow, we were late. We never received our appetizer and finally just cancelled it. The salads were good and I can certainly recommend the chopped salad. But then they tried to bring our entrees when we had barely begun eating our salads and the waiter seemed surprised when we asked him to take the main course away while we finished our salads. When they did finally bring us the main courses, my husband's salmon was cold and very undercooked?! We also ordered a carafe of wine, but had to remind the waiter and then he only brought one glass. Just a very strange and underwhelming experience."

  • "This is consistently one of the best restaurants at the South Coast Plaza - Performing Arts Center places to eat before a show"

  • "Predictably good, great food and service, fair price, nice ambiance and NO corkage charge. Menu changes with the season and food remains outstanding. And then we take the shirt stroll to the theatre -- What's not to like??"

  • "Understated but elegant ambiance - attentive servers - great attention to detail. I went for lunch and it was a delight! The food was excellent, well priced for luncheon and presentation was lovely. I'd definitely go back and try other dishes. And I'd love to try a wine-maker dinner based on this experience."

  • "Showed up on Sunday at about 11:45am. We seated and then the Maitre'D came by to tell us that the Restaurant week special lunch did not start until the next day as it conflicted with their brunch....but we could come by that evening when the dinner special menu was in force. Why did they not tell us that on the reservation site? No ways to make friends, that's for sure. We went next door to Scott's and had a delightful Restaurant week special....while they also served brunch."

  • "It had been awhile since I last had dinner at Pinot and this visit with my husband and friends was not in any way mirror the wonderful food and service that I remembered. We arrived at the bar half an hour before our dinner reservation. After waiting many minutes for someone on the staff to acknowledge our presence, we finally flagged a server down. Mind you, this was early evening and they were not busy. Drinks were delivered just as we were being seated at our table. Sloppy and, for the most part, pleasant service continued in the dining room. Food and presentation were hit or miss. My skate would have been divine if it wasn't overcooked. Would I make an effort to go back? Only if someone convinced me that this was an off night."

  • "We went in for lunch for Restaurant Week on Sunday afternoon (the first day). We were told that lunch for Restaurant Week wouldn't begin until the next day and we were stuck with brunch. This was a major disappointment. Since the restaurant was participating in the promotion, they should have told us in advance that their schedule was different. Several people came in and left when told of the change. We should have done the same. We ended up with breakfast when we were looking forward to a 3 course lunch."

  • "Been going here for several years. Always on Sunday noon before a theatre performance. Menu's use to be eclectic and great. Last month was only breakfast food. I can't go there anymore. Such a shame."

  • "My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the special Valentine's Day dinner. I had a superb steak with truffles and my wife had wonderful fish. The four courses were all delightful. A guitarist provided atmosphere, too, and he's a regular on Tuesday nights. Highly recommended. One of OC's dining gems."

  • "The clams are sandy. Oysters are stinky. Steak is chewy. This is the worst Valentine's dinner ever."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "Had a wonderful Valentine's day with my girlfriend there. The service was excellent, they refilled our drinks and brought out the wines on time with every meal, and the food was exquisite. Our server was great too! It was a fantastic experience. Would definitely go again."

  • "I am a little behind in submitting this review...then again, perhaps not. This Country French restaurant was most impressive for Thanksgiving 2013. Food and service were both topnotch and excellent. Menu was the traditional Thanksgiving fare with a French twist. The wine list was well thought out and even the beer list had a few choice selections that made it noteworthy. The restaurant interior was open and well appointed which created an inviting and intimate dining experience. This was our first time dining at this restaurant, and I am looking forward to dining there again soon to sample their regular menu. Highly recommended thus far."

  • "Chef Alfonso is bringing great French cuisine to Orange County! We started with asparagus gratin with a poached egg and shaved black truffles - outstanding! The asparagus & egg were cooked perfectly. We then shared a salad which was fresh and tasty. My entree was the loup de mer with langostinos. Absolutely delicious. My husband had the roast chicken. It was moist, tender and yummy! We are grateful for the chef for giving us a wonderful dining choice in the OC."

  • "My friends and I have been faithful friends of Pinot Provence for many years, (2002) Food and service impeccable. After a few years of absence we returned for an evening with friends and family. Our service was poor, waited for water and menus. Then water glasses empty throughout meal. Our table ordered escargot, best part of my meal,French onion soup still very tasty, and their chopped salad - delicious. Main courses scallops, good taste but tough, salmon, almost raw inside, vegetables good and crunchy. Short ribs were the best, but not very hot. Chocolate cake was a disaster! Chef Alfonso was such a professional - he came to our table, apologized and replaced it with a beautifully warmed, melted lava cake...wonderful."

  • "Disappointed in our evening at Pinot Provence - we have gone their often pre theatre and had a good experience but Friday was a disappointment. It started with ordering the cheese platter appetizer and finding out they had no cheese which should never happen at a French restaurant especially since we were a first seating. We ordered the scallops for dinner and they were very dull and tasteless so all in all not up to par to our prior experiences with this restaurant. Not sure if their has been a change in chefs or management but will be cautious before going back again"

  • "This place was fab! Can't believe I ve never been there. The food was delish, service was friendly and attentive the managers came around to tables several times to check on guests. Try the escargots! Yum! Short ribs were great too. I will definitely be going back!"

  • "Tasty dinners (shortrib and roasted chicken entrees) and our service was fine. Peculiar room has an unfinished feel about it. We came a bit later but not late (7:30) and appeared to be the last one's in for the night. Many empty, unset tables which left us feeling the ambience was a bit off."

  • "Pinot Provence is one of our very favorite restaurants in Orange County! We have had breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner there on several occasions. The food is always prepared just perfectly and presented beautifully. Although the wine list is extensive and excellent, there is no corkage if you have a favorite bottle to bring to the table. The service is friendly and professional. The front desk is always accommodating and make you feel at home. We do not hesitate to recommend Pinto Provence to any and all for an outstanding dining experience at any time of the day."

  • "We have dined at most of the Pinot restaurants over the years and we usually try have the Chef's menu. When we asked about the Chef's menu this time we were told it wouldn't be possible due to two large groups coming in. However, our waiter came back a few minutes later and told us we would, in fact, be able to do the Chef's menu. It was four courses of fantastic food that we won't soon forget. From the opening bluefin plate to the final beef plate, the tastes, smells and presentation were incomparable. And we were very pleasantly surprised when the Chef himself came out to ask us how our meal was and to thank us for dining at Provence."
