A word from Ping Pong Dim Sum - Dupont
Serving up irresistible Dim Sum, innovative cocktails, and luxurious Chinese teas, Ping Pong Dupont is a vibrant location to enjoy Dim Sum with a twist. The cosmopolitan restaurant boasts 2 al fresco 3-season patios, a dim sum bar, expansive dining room great for large groups, and a buzzing cocktail bar with award-winning libations.

Offering a wide range of Asian treats, the sleek Ping Pong restaurants pay homage to the ancient traditions of Chinese tea houses. With a big choice of dumplings and steamed buns, the Ping Pong menu also offers an array of "big-small plates", all Chinese tapas style.

As well, there are plenty of familiar Chinese delicacies, with spring rolls, soup dumplings, and hearty dishes like our hoi sin duck bao sliders. For dessert, try Ping Pong’s roasted banana and chocolate spring roll or the ice cream filled rice pastry, mochi, and finish with a lively Ping Pong cocktail or soothing Oriental tea.

Diner Reviews
  • "We held a farewell party at Ping Pong and took advantage of the great Happy Hour specials. Our server, Weena, was wonderful and took fantastic care of us. Everyone enjoyed the food and we were really impressed with the cocktails."

  • "We sat outside, where the noise level was fine--it can get a bit too loud inside. We hadn't been in a while, and were surprised to find that what had already been excellent food had gotten even better! Lots of fresh, flavorful options, both in terms of food and drink. Maybe it was being outside that made everything seem so much richer, I don't know, but we definitely won't wait so long to go back again. Bonus: the wait staff were nice and attentive, not aloof and hipper-than-thou, which seems to be a trend at DC restaurants these days."

  • "Food was extremely over salted. Variety limited. Food temperature not palatable."

  • "While the ambiance and decor of the restaurant is nice, the food is just really sub par. The portions are small, overcooked and/or old. I have gone twice and I don't think I will go back."

  • "We've been here several times and it's a great location. Brought some visitors to town and they loved the food and it's fun to share and talk about what everyone likes. The table we sat at was a little cramped and they brought out almost all of the food at the same time, so it was a little hard to negotiate. The restaurant plays loud club music, but I didn't feel like I had to shout to talk to our friends. On a Monday night, the restaurant inside was not full, so easy to get it. I love the food and will go back!"

  • "Server was very friendly and great with our kids, but the food was disappointing. We eat a lot of Dim Sum in New York and are fairly adventurous eaters. That said, we aren't all that picky about dim sum - most chinatown places meet our standards. Of the dozen or so dishes we ordered, one was really delicious (scallop and shiitake mushroom dumplings), and several were respectable. Several were genuinely unpleasant. And, it was pretty pricey for all this mostly mediocre food."

  • "My favorite Dim Sum place by far. Go with a group and order lots. Each dish is exquisitely prepared. I took some Dim Sum skeptics and they were converted on the first dish to arrive at the table. Can't wait till I'm back in DC again."

  • "Ok, great dim sum except the calamari. Tough and inedible. Avoid it. The (very drunk) table behind us said the same thing (the whole block heard it - the 3 guys were on a goal of hitting 9 bottles of champagne). The service was good, not great, but good. The food was wonderful and well worth the "all you can eat". Surprisingly, the vegetable dumplings were our favorite! We are serious carnivores. My biggest critique would be controlling the drunks with "bottomless" champagne. While it was only one table, it really did diminish the atmosphere for the rest of us. Wow I feel old. But, for real, they had no filter and were so loud. Alas. THe food won. Great food."

  • "I brought an out of town guest from India who is a strict vegetarian. There are many, clearly marked, vegetarian and vegan options. I am not used to being restricted in terms of diet, so I had been worried that there wouldn't be enough to choose from, but it was the opposite, and there were tons of things to choose from. Our guest was excited about the meal and enjoyed the creative takes on dumplings and other dishes. She took many pictures for her son to replicate at home, and will be taking her family to visit a Ping Pong location as soon as she can. Also the manager was very personable and gave me coupons for my next visits. Overall a great experience!"

  • "Selected this location based purely from location, menu, and OpenTable ratings. Didn't realize until I arrived that it was across the street from a favorite Sunday brunch location as well. Food was excellent. Service was good. Decor was nice and comfortable. I feel this is a 'little known spot" for lunch, because for all of the food that you get for $15 (including a beverage) one would think this space would be busier. As a fundraiser, I'm always looking for new places to do events. Think I found one..."

  • "We had been to Ping Pong many times when it opened on 7th and really enjoyed it and so I took some out of town guests to the DuPont one thinking it would be great. Meh. With all the great restaurants in town, I cannot imagine ever going back here. It wasn't bad, but it certainly wasn't good. If you just want to sit outside and have a drink, however, it's lovely."

  • "I have never had dum sum before, and this restaurant made me want to have it every weekend! They have two special offers for brunch; $36 for unlimited food, or $36 for unlimited mimosas with 5 plates per person. A la carte ordering is also available. We had 3 people and 15 dishes was MORE than enough-- we actually didn't even order all 15! Mimosas come in mango, lychee and pomegranate and were delicious. The food was incredible and the menu was extensive, and our server was great. A must try! "

  • "I have been to Ping Pong so many times and it never disappoints. Great food and service. The set lunch menus are fantastic."

  • "Ping Pong gives off a sleek and polished feel, the restaurant is clean and the patio is looked nice. Unfortunately, like a game of ping pong, the rest of the meal bounced around from great to disappointing and everything inbetween. Half of the dishes were tasty and interesting, others were bland. Our table of six ordered a four person prix fixe and two single prix fixe, Unfortunately the dishes for the four person meal came out long before the other two peoples food, like 15 minutes before. The check left a pretty bad taste in our mouths at well over 40 bucks per person and we left still hungry, not a problem if the food we ate was spectacular, but it wasnt. Looking for dim sum, sure, try it out, but its just ok. "

  • "We love ping pong. Third time here. Beverage service a bit slow but otherwise wonderful."

  • "The food was very good, we all enjoyed it a lot. The service was very poor, we didn't see our waitperson for a LONG time after we sat down and then very infrequently after we ordered. The food made up for the poor service so I will go back."

  • "Food was very expensive and for the most part tasteless. The place was very noisy, especially near the kitchen. Mother's Day was nonetheless perfect."

  • "If you're craving dim sum, stick with the real deal. The food is mediocre, at best, and over priced for what you get - including the experience. Poor service is an understatement. My debit/credit card was swiped twice - once for the amount of the check and once for the amount of the tip. I contacted the establishment right away and the GM made several excuses, including the error was made by my bank. Never once did they accept responsibility, offer an apology for the frustration caused, or try to help rectify the situation - even when my bank advised that only they can reverse the charge while it's pending. I have since filed a dispute so that the funds can be returned to my account. Will never eat here again or recommend to anyone."

  • "After this long winter, it was lovely to sit outside for lunch. The lunch specials are generous & varied - they have increased the number of lunch special offerings & formats, and they now include their yummy iced teas, which is awesome! I'm a fan of this place and make sure to stop by from time to time."

  • "The outdoor dining was in a nice spot and the food and drinks were good, when we finally got them. It took 30 minutes to get half of our order and another 30 for the rest. It ended up a little pricey for the whole experience."

  • "Went here for brunch on a whim while visiting DC because I could make an OpenTable reservation and the reviews were great. The bottomless mimosa bar also helped make the decision and we were not dissappointed. The food came out quickly, was beautifully plated and delicious. I will be recommending this to friends in the area."

  • "We have always enjoyed Ping Pong for happy hour or the occasional dinner and we chose it for our post-Easter service brunch for our group of four. We were enticed by the Easter event (mimosa dying, egg dying, 15% off if you dress like a bunny!). One of the guys in our group was skeptical that 5 dishes (deal was 5 dishes, bottomless mimosas for $36) would fill him up. He had to take a break after 3! It is a ton of food. They were generous with the bottles of champagne, provided lychee, passion fruit and mango juices (a nice change from the normal orange juice) and food coloring to make our mimosa the color of Easter eggs! It was a real treat and we will go back if they have other special events in the future."

  • "Four of us dined on a Friday night. The food was outstanding, but it was so noisy it was very hard for us to hear each other over the table and also hard for us to hear the wait staff."

  • "It took the restaurant almost 50 minutes to get the first round of our order to us, the food was subpar at best, and the overall service was horrible. Although the manager was understanding of our frustration, it was a little too late to improve our experience."
    Dined on 4/11/2014
  • "I love dim sim and thought this would be a fun experience. Instead - it was a huge disappointment. Food came only warm (not hot), needed hot sauce jut to give it some taste and the calamari had to be returned as it was not edible (rubber would have been more tender). I would suggest that you stick to the real dim sim restarts with actual chinese chefs in the kitchen."

  • "We did not enjoy our brunch. It was not particularly child friendly either. The food was pricy, the portions small and the flavors not vibrant enough to make you ever go back. Honest but true. Go elsewhere in Dupont."

  • "Our team really enjoyed Ping Pong. Great for everyone!"

  • "Food was great. Interesting Drink menu. However, despite a reservation, AND a relatively empty restaurant on a Saturday Night, they sat us by an outside door, near a waiter station. Next to a large loud party. We were only a party of two. I could not have picked a worse seat in the house. I should have asked for a change but wasn't in the mood to fuss. The waiter did explain all the dishes which was a nice touch. I am not a fan of the tag team style of wait service, it always seems disjointed for me. Too bad, as the location and décor are nice. They need to up their service, professional wait staff game."

  • "Great food, you can pick what you want to bring out for the all-you-can eat but we let our server bring us things/portions he suggested which was a way better way to do it!"

  • "...I was leading a group of parents and students to DC and wanted to celebrate the parents for coming. I made a large reservation at the restaurant and was I embarrassed. Half the dishes were never brought to the table; half the guests got only one dish that they ordered. The service staff ignored us for at least half the time we were there. The bill was $450 for 11 people, which is not bad but pretty outrageous given how poor the service and actual followup was. I will never, never, never recommend this restaurant again."

  • "When I googled the restaurant the reviews were terrible. I told the other couple in our party about the reviews, but we all elected to go anyway. When we arrived we were greeted and we were shown to our table. We ordered the DimSum brunch, but did not go for the bottomless drinks. Those around us that did the drinks looked like they got their fill. The food was as good as we remembered. It was hot, cooked to perfection and totally fresh. Our server helped us through the menu and suggested several items. He was the best we have had anywhere. To summarize: Go you will be pleasantly surprised and pleased. The vegetarian menu is varied and one of the best I have seen."

  • "I just love Ping Pong. I don't know how traditional the dim sum is, but it tastes amazing. And it's just a fun place to have dinner with a group or just another person. Also make sure to get mochi for dessert. It's delicious!"

  • "Ping Pong Dim Sum is so delicious, but the package deals lead you to pay a little bit too much and not finish your food. Also their brunch mimosa deal should be included in the package deal - having is separate is just a little too much money. They are located in a pricey area so you cannot blame them for having highish prices, but a part of me longs for a more authentic dim sum experience where they roll carts of options around and you get to pick as you go, rather than picking 5 from a list with no idea what they are. Amazingly yummy, slightly too expensive for what you are getting."

  • "We had a large group enjoy a solid and fun meal at Ping-Pong - I enjoyed the variety of options and the cool drinks. My only slightly negative comment is that the server was not that welcoming and rather gruff, like we were bothering him or something. Smiling and acting pleasant can go a long way to helping customers have a good experience."

  • "I have been a frequent diner at PP (mostly 7th St.) I made a reservation for 2 for Friday evening. I was shown a high table in the bar area. I expressed my disappointment with being seated there as the chairs there are not as comfortable in my opinion. I was told that I'd have to wait a half hour to be seated elsewhere. I felt the hostess was very patronizing and rude. Our waiter was friendly but was too busy to bring soy sauce, clear our plates and take our check. I like the PP fare a lot and will go only to the Chinatown location from now on."

  • "Drinks were not made correctly, only one-half of our food ever made it to the table, and the what did make it to the table was sub-par at best. This was the second time we tried Ping Pong Dim Sum in DC and both attempts were complete failures."
