A word from Ping Pong Dim Sum - Chinatown
Serving up irresistible Dim Sum, innovative cocktails, and luxurious Chinese teas, Ping Pong Chinatown is a vibrant location to enjoy Dim Sum with a twist. The cosmopolitan restaurant boasts a dim sum bar, sunken dining room great for large groups, and a buzzing cocktail bar with award-winning libations.

Offering a wide range of Asian treats, the sleek Ping Pong restaurants pay homage to the ancient traditions of Chinese tea houses. With a big choice of dumplings and steamed buns, the Ping Pong menu also offers an array of "big-small plates", all Chinese tapas style.

As well, there are plenty of familiar Chinese delicacies, with spring rolls, soup dumplings, and hearty dishes like our hoi sin duck bao sliders. For dessert, try Ping Pong’s roasted banana and chocolate spring roll or the ice cream filled rice pastry, mochi, and finish with a lively Ping Pong cocktail or soothing Oriental tea.

Diner Reviews
  • "We were very excited about eating at Ping Pong. Unfortunately it didn't live up to the hype. Our waiter was slow and inattentive. The food was not the best dim sum for the price."

  • "Did not like that we could not get a la carte for 2 of the 11 people on our table. Waste of the 36 dollar brunch."

  • "Food is wonderful!!! The only thing we don't like is that some of the seats don't have backs!"

  • "...but the service was a little off. Went here for Restaurant Week in DC, but the waitress was not very knowledgeable about how we should order. Three of the four dim sum courses came out at the same time. They apologized and gave us free glasses of champagne, but it was overwhelming and got cold fast. Maybe if we had not gone for the Restaurant Week Menu this would have happened? Also the chairs have no backs or cushions, so if you are there for a long meal you might need to get up and walk around a bit."

  • "My family and I had a delicious meal at Ping Pong while visiting DC. Our waiter was friendly and patient and it was great to be able to see the menu and order on the checklist they provide instead of having to muddle through ordering each time we wanted to try something. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a fun, dim sum meal."

  • "Really enjoyed the food. Service seemed slow given it was Sunday brunch and not crowded. Also the pricing was very confusing for brunch. The server explained it and it still made no sense. We wanted to order a la carte but I'm still not sure how the server calculated everything. I would go again but probably not for brunch."

  • "Baked puff chicken and veggie were both very pasty over seasoned stuffing with over glazed and under baked over all very salty and weren't flaky like it should. Dim sum were over steamed. Fried food came out OK but over all not as good as 6 month ago."

  • "The food took a little while to come out, but it was pretty good when it did. It was a really bustling lunch scene, so I'm not docking them too much for being a little slow, and the waitress continued to check up on us while we were waiting. I like that they have a pre fixe menu, so you get to try a bunch of different things. All in all, I plan a return visit to try some more! Very delicious."

  • "I went here for dinner with the lab I intern for, after attending a professional convention together. We had made a reservation for 20, but only about 13 of us showed up, which they were very understanding about. However, they seemed entirely under prepared for the large reservation we had informed them was coming and tried to put us at 2 separated round tables, so instead we all squeezed into one. The food was good but a bit too expensive for what was essentially 3 little hors d'oeuvres a plate. Nonetheless, it was fun."

  • "I have eaten at the Dupont Circle Ping Pong Dim Sum before and it was great. This location was equally as good. In fact, I am going back there tomorrow with a client. Love the place."

  • "Went for lunch, ordered the dim sum lunch which came with 6 steamed dumplings and one signature entree. The dumplings were good, but hot (you have been warned lol). The citrus chicken I had as my entree; however, was super hard I couldn't even cut through it with a knife."

  • "We ordered the fixed menu and had the perfect amount of food for a family of 4 with older children-which is never a complaint when traveling. It was great food with great service-everyone left full and enjoyed their meals! By far the best non-food truck food we've had in DC!"
    Dined on 7/28/2014
  • "Have eaten at both of the Ping Pong restaurants in the past and the food is always excellent, attractively presented, served well, attractive environment. A bit overpriced is my main complaint. On the other hand I have gone back!"

  • "We loved the tapas style presentation of all of the delectables. Overall service and food were fantastic. It took us two rounds to get the Grey Goose chilled up right, but management was accommodating. I highly recommend it if you are looking for a a fun place w/ a group of friends and family."

  • "One can peruse the menu with all sorts of great choices. Or, we used the paper order form like those in sushi restaurants. While the restaurant doesn't have the traditional carts with dim sum, the alternate ordering system worked well and we got our food pretty quickly. Great variety and quite tasty. Reasonable prices for downtown DC."

  • "I have gone to Ping Pong on multiple occasions, and usually like to take first time dim-sum eaters there because the food is presented well and not intimidating. There is also a nice assortment of cocktails. The look and feel of the restaurant is also fun. As with any small plates restaurant in DC, get ready to pay! We typically spend over $30 per person. Service is fair depending on how many people are dining and sometimes the wait staff can forget to run your credit card--leaving it sitting on the table."

  • "Surprised at the lack of dim sum, great service, what was on the menu was excellent."

  • "Service was good not as great as it has been before. Food was exceptional as always."

  • "No roving carts like you'd get at authentic dim sum restaurants, but still very good. Our group got the four-person meal and it was the perfect amount of variety to keep us satisfied. We'll definitely be coming back."

  • "Marriott Marquis recommended and hit the mark on this one. Great food. Great and friendly service. Take the waiter's recommendations."

  • "I took some clients here for lunch this week and went back with other clients because of the excellent food and experience. The food was varied and very tasty"

  • "Unfortunately they did not have the "signature dish" that 2 of us ordered for the lunch prefix. Instead they brought a total of 3 small crab cakes, somewhat overcooked. The steamed part was great but they need a new approach to problems with food not available (we were eating right when it opened at 11:30)"

  • "The quality of the dim sum her has never been great - but it is now awful. Truly awful."

  • "this place is always a hit with out of town guests and our teenagers -- fun atmosphere, interesting but approachable food, close to lots of fun shopping"

  • "Food was delicious, decor is great. Very quiet at weekday lunch. I strongly recommend it."

  • "Had a great time with the family. Food was awesome. Everything we ordered was tasty. For the world cup the bar is makes certain drinks when the country plays on that day. The Persian Rose such a refreshing drink. Hope they keep it on the menu after the world cup."

  • "I grew up eating dim sum im Hawaii and California, and was pleasantly surprised to fing an upscale gourmet twist on this childhood favorite. The selection of teas was another wonderful offering of exotic and clean flavors. I would LOVE to see something like this in Madison Wi or St Paul Mn!!"

  • "Avid dim sum connoisseur expected soooo much more. Very limited "dim sum" menu. Ate withasian girlfriend & we both know our way around dim sum. For it to advertise itself as a dimsum restaurant was deceiving. It was more of a new age fusion restaurant. Did not even have Asian cooks"
    Dined on 6/20/2014
  • "Good dim sum, slightly off beat from more traditional dim sum locations in that they offer some variants like hoi sin duck 'sliders' on steamed buns. Overall, good place as the ambience is more trendy than your regular large Chinese restaurant style dim sum place. You lose some authenticity and food quality compared to places you might get in Silver Spring or Wheaton, but still a good choice. Would definitely go again. They do overcook their bok choy, so may want to stick to the more dumpling type dishes - fried or steamed than fresh vegetables."

  • "Amazing food and very helpful servers. I totally enjoyed the experience."

  • "I've been here before and I love the place. However, it turned out not to be such a hit for my son's post graduation celebration. This place is not for friends or family that value volume of food over quality. Also, the vegetarians in the group were disappointed--not because there were inadequate vegetarian options, but they claimed that their food was mediocre at best. Even so, it's a great spot and I will definitely return again!"

  • "While most of the dim sum was quite tasty I had to send back the coconut milk/lemongrass soup for being way too salty. I would not have expected such an amateur mistake for such a supposed gourmet establishment. "

  • "Adore this place. It's perfect for a group of friends to go order a bunch of food and split. Their cocktails are delicious, creative, and beautiful (I recommend the Ping Pong)! They also have an awesome rewards program. It's a place I plan on going to again and again! The food is to die for. I kept ordering more, even though I wasn't hungry because the food is just that good!"

  • "We had high hopes for Ping Pong Dim Sum, and we were not disappointed, but we were not blown away either. We had several outstanding dishes, but a number were just so-so. The best part of the restaurant was the decor. It is a beautifully appointed space, and we had a great time at the round tables that were conducive to conversation among our group (and translation for the Chinese members of our contingent). But I don't think I would eat here again. The quality of the dishes was too uneven and the service was abominably slow. "

  • "This place was a nice and easy walk from the Gallery Place Metro Station, passing by the fun sites of DC's Chinatown. If you are hungry and its lunchtime, get one of their set menus. It will fill you up and keep you satisfied. Remember, it is okay to order only a few dishes and order more later. I definitely think the food should be savored. Recommended for lunch, though I have yet to try their brunch."

  • "While, very expensive - the dimsums in this place are amazing. Specially when they have the weekend unlimited dimsum brunch menu and you just don't want to leave the place :). The place has some great drinks too."

  • "Great restaurant with a cool atmosphere. Service was beyond amazing and the food is great - there's a lot of variety in the different things you can order. "

  • "We had a great dinner and thankfully the tasty food appealed to the two non-adventurous eaters in our family. Four of us had been to this location or the Dupont Circle location before, but two had not. The prix fixe menu was easy for us to suggest to the two who don't normallly choose Asian fare. Terrific service helped. Everything was smooth and all six agreeed that we would definitely come back."

  • "Though the menu options a bit on the pricier side (well, you're in D.C., so what would you expect), the food was decent and very tasty. If you're new to dim sum, they have a helpful guide for beginners."
