A word from Ping Pong Dim Sum - 7th Street
Serving up irresistible Dim Sum, innovative cocktails, and luxurious Chinese teas, Ping Pong Chinatown is a vibrant location to enjoy Dim Sum with a twist. The cosmopolitan restaurant boasts a dim sum bar, sunken dining room great for large groups, and a buzzing cocktail bar with award-winning libations.

Offering a wide range of Asian treats, the sleek Ping Pong restaurants pay homage to the ancient traditions of Chinese tea houses. With a big choice of dumplings and steamed buns, the Ping Pong menu also offers an array of "big-small plates", all Chinese tapas style.

As well, there are plenty of familiar Chinese delicacies, with spring rolls, soup dumplings, and hearty dishes like our hoi sin duck bao sliders. For dessert, try Ping Pong’s roasted banana and chocolate spring roll or the ice cream filled rice pastry, mochi, and finish with a lively Ping Pong cocktail or soothing Oriental tea.

  • Two times in two weeks

Came last week before a caps game so I brought two more friends this time around before the game. Really frustrated upon arrival because as I checked in, I was told by the male host (hopefully not the manager) that I didn't have a reservation (which I obviously did). I asked him to look again. He told me he couldn't find it. I said that a friend was seated and waiting and he suddenly miraculously found the reservation. I told him he needed to use the "partially seated" option on OT (I have the same system at my restaurant. He NEVER looked at sheet to find my last name nor look me up as a "guest" - I think he needs some training). We were also sat in the bar, I find that unacceptable. If I wanted to sit in the bar, I wouldn't have made a reservation. The female host who sat us didn't offer to move us when I pointed out I didn't care for the spot. Food was great, as usual (duck spring rolls, spicy chive dumplings, pork belly bao buns, soup dumplings, beef in cabernet, chicken buns, edamame). But AGAIN, for the second week in a row, our drinks took FOREVER. 15+ minutes this time around. What's going on with the bar? Again, server did a great job communicating with us but JUST GIVE ME MY DRINK. Again, although before a game, the bar was not packed/overflowing/3 deep/etc. Bartending team either needs some help, more hands, or more training. I don't ever recall waiting this long for drinks before at this establishment. The first time I wrote it off, second time, no way. Management, do you not know this is happening? Are your servers not telling you when the bar is taking forever on making drinks? Not one visit this time or last from a manager to our table to apologize. (To round this out with a compliment, the drinks are always tasty and very unique; I miss the lemongrass sangria but your bev manager is very creative.)

  • Good food, patchy service

The food was good but the service from the kitchen was incredibly slow and poorly paced. Each person orders a number of small dishes, they brought all the dishes for one person out in 15 min, while others took over 45 min-1h to arrive. So we were all eating out of sync, and a simple lunch took over 90 min. Our waitress was good at explaining the menu, and I think the issues stemmed mainly from the kitchen's food preparation.

The food tasted great, however our rice did not arrive till we were finished with all other components of the meal. We were a party of 4 and each of us got our main entrée and scattered times not all together, so some us at our food cold, as a curtsy to other members of our party who were patiently waiting for their food. The food overall was worth the wait...the service just needs some improvement. The server did try to fix the rice problem by providing us with free appetizer late in the meal while we were waiting on our rice. Overall food is great but disorganized and those willing to have patience will enjoy.

The evening started out awful. On arriving for our 8 PM reservation, we were told we needed to wait for a few minutes. Immediately after us, several people in large groups with no reservation arrived and were seated shortly after. When the (male) host came to seat us, he told us (a party of three) that the only option was a bar table. When I said I'd made a reservation for the restaurant, his response was to look down at me and say snootily `we have over 200 reservations for this restaurant'. What does that even mean? Don't take reservations if you don't have room! When I said they should not have taken the reservation with no room, he said `Oh we have room, that's why you are getting this bar table'. No sympathy for the fact that my 60 year old mother with mobility issues had to climb on a bar stool; the reservation was to avoid this. Next, the food was mediocre. The waitress (who did her best in a bad situation) told us everything that was sold out. We ordered from the rest, to find about 20 minutes later that most of that was sold out too. At this point we just wanted to leave. We ate the four mediocre dimsum that showed up (much better available in Chinatown), paid in cash and left. Luckily we had reservations for drinks at Barmini by Jose Andres, where there is also a bit of food so we didn't go hungry (quick plug: this place is awesome. Despite being much more classy than Ping Pong, the service was impeccable, the food and drinks came quickly, and we actually got our table that was reserved. It doesn't take much!). Never again! I've tried Ping Pong Dim Sum in London, but clearly they did not cross the atlantic well (the extremely rude british male host being the worst part of our experience)

It's been a while since I've been to PingPong but always have enjoyed myself. My friend and I ate in the dining room and tried some new dumplings that have been added to the menu since I last dined there. The soup dumplings were great, the cabernet braised beef I found sour but my friend enjoyed, the dumpling made with the squid ink was too soft and kept falling apart (impossible to eat and not very flavorful), the duck spring rolls were tasty as were the pork belly sliders (which aren't really sliders so I hate that they use that name, it's made with the delicious bao buns). Server was very pleasant but the bar...I'm not sure if they were weeded or what was going on. It took 15 minutes each time we ordered drinks. Really unacceptable. The server was great in communicating with us but, c'mon. We had to anticipate if we wanted another drink and get the order in so it would arrive when we were finished with the previous one. I don't remember the bar struggling like this before, and, although before a caps game, the bar was not 3 deep like I've been it in the past. Truly no excuse. Maybe they needed some help management? (or another bartender scheduled)

This was my second time having lunch at one of Ping Pong's two DC locations. Both of them offer a dim sum lunch special that is a good value - a basket of five assorted steamed dumplings, plus a small entree and won ton chips with a variety of dipping sauces, for $15. The food is excellent and the service equally good. Highly recommended for dim sum lovers!

The food was really pretty good here. We had a living social coupon for a 5 course tasting and it came with a pitcher of punch, which was also good. But the chairs are all stools without backs. And the music is annoying and the ambience is of a restaurant trying to be hip. I won't be back, because it is pricey and for that, I want to feel like I can at least sit back in a chair. Also the servers took 10 minutes to get to our table even though the restaurant was empty. I mean, we didn't even have water.

Wanted a nice pre-game dinner. So many problems. Tables WAY to close to each other. Hostess tried to seat my party so close to others it would have been like dining with strangers. Waitress was terrible. Kept walking away to other tables literally in the middle of her own sentences. Food was decent - but bland. Love the idea of Dim Sum in Washington, but this place needs to start over.

Ping Pong Dim Sum is a great place to go if you want to get a quick snack before an event or a tasting dinner with friends. The dumplings and little bites are overall very good. The bok choy we tried didn't have much flavor and the edamame were nothing special, but all of the dumplings we tried were good, as was the tofu with vegetables. I'd love to see more fresh and healthy items on the menu - more vegetables and seafood that aren't covered in oil - either stir fried or deep fried. Those options are few and far between.

I love Chinese Food...i mean LOVE IT! I, however have NEVER been a dim sum fan. I skeptically tried this place because a colleague wanted Chinese. While we work in Chinatown, I honestly wasn't seeing any reviews on the restaurants that made me want to try them. I decided on Ping Pong becaue the atmosphere looked nicer. I was shockingly suprised at how AWESOME the food was. I liked the tapas concept, and was happily shocked at the array of food we had. We ordered 3 items each and shared, and I thought we didn't order enough. By the time the 3rd round of food came, we were ALL full, and could barely eat it. Only dislike was the Crab and Corn Shumai, shu mai are typically small bites but these looked like dumplings and weren't tasty.

Our party of four very much enjoyed our Brunch but the real stand out was the way the place was run. Brunch is fixed price with two options and everyone at the table must choose the same option. Both options are great and this is really not much of a problem. However, one person in our group was not feeling well and asked to just sit with us and a cup of tea. After checking with the manager the request was gladly approved and our ill friend was treated with great care and attention by our server. All around a wonderful way to spend a Sunday.

I loved tasting everything I ate. Portions are fairly small only 3 pieces per small plate- but the point is to try everything! one or two bites of this one or two bites of that. I loved the Pimms Pitcher and the crispy beef! I would go back and recommend for a great date night!
