A word from Ping Pong Dim Sum - 7th Street
Serving up irresistible Dim Sum, innovative cocktails, and luxurious Chinese teas, Ping Pong Chinatown is a vibrant location to enjoy Dim Sum with a twist. The cosmopolitan restaurant boasts a dim sum bar, sunken dining room great for large groups, and a buzzing cocktail bar with award-winning libations.

Offering a wide range of Asian treats, the sleek Ping Pong restaurants pay homage to the ancient traditions of Chinese tea houses. With a big choice of dumplings and steamed buns, the Ping Pong menu also offers an array of "big-small plates", all Chinese tapas style.

As well, there are plenty of familiar Chinese delicacies, with spring rolls, soup dumplings, and hearty dishes like our hoi sin duck bao sliders. For dessert, try Ping Pong’s roasted banana and chocolate spring roll or the ice cream filled rice pastry, mochi, and finish with a lively Ping Pong cocktail or soothing Oriental tea.

Diner Reviews
  • "Arrived at 7pm on a Saturday night. The restaurant was busy but not packed. Very poor service. We waited 55 minutes before our appetizers arrived. The bar was VERY slow (....25 minutes before drinks arrived). Ordered an apricot margarita which was fantastic! Ordered a second one but it arrived looking very different. When I questioned the waiter he informed me the bar ran out of puree. This made me question the integrity of the restaurant. Food was mediocre. Won't go back..."

  • "I loved tasting everything I ate. Portions are fairly small only 3 pieces per small plate- but the point is to try everything! one or two bites of this one or two bites of that. I loved the Pimms Pitcher and the crispy beef! I would go back and recommend for a great date night!"

  • "Found Ping Pong after quick Open Table search for nearby restaurants. Great food with cool ambiance. It was quite loud inside but it leant itself to good energy. The only detractor from rating was our server was mostly absent. It may have just been our server so I would not say to stay away."

  • "The food was good and the flavors were clean, however dumpling orders are small. There is nothing other than dumplings on the menu so don't expect to eat a big dinner. Also the service was terrible and the waitress did not help us with ordering at all."

  • "be sure to avoid sitting near the open kitchen -- our group was so hot that that the experience was very uncomfortable. maybe that would be nice in the depths of wintre, but it was too much in general. the noise level is more like a bar scene than a restaurant. also the food is far too pricey for dim sum."

  • "I found the food OK - more salty than it should be - and service indifferent. Maybe 1/3 of the tables were occupied at lunchtime, so the lack of attention I received was even more surprising."

  • "Great stop near the convention center, service was a little slow, but the food was great and location perfect!"

  • "Some of the items were excellent (hoi sin duck bao sliders, bursting soup dumplings), but others were either too bland (chicken and napa cabbage potstickers) or really bad (in the crispy beef with with citrus soy sauce, the beef strips tasted like shoe laces; the seafood dumplings were way overcooked, making the coating too dry and tough). The desserts we tried (chocolate sesame donuts, mochi ice cream) were very tasty."

  • "My husband had gone to Ping Pong before on a previous visit to DC and was on a mission to go back there. We are both vegetarians and were really impressed by the dining options for us. That being said, though, if you're vegetarian, the $23 lunch menu is a better deal for you because there is a ton of food (pretty much everything we ordered) and well priced."

  • "Ping Pong in Chinatown is very cool chic spot, my boyfriend and I went on a Saturday evening, first off the staff were very helpful as Ping Pong specializes in dumplings it can be a little daunting to look at a menu with so many selections but, out server/bartender was there with great recomendations for food and beverage and all were on point. I don't think we had a single subpar dish, Neil our tender also recommended a nice Sake` to compliment our dish and even got us to stay for dessert which we did not regret all in all a great experience we shall return!"

  • "Service was mediocre (at best). The server did not explain the various offerings as I had asked, even though I indicated that I was dining with two people who'd never had dim sum before. Food was overpriced, but that's normal for Ping Pong."

  • "The Lychee specialty beverage, the Ping Pong, is unbelievable! It is made even more special with the great texture from the basil seeds. Genius! And it is the perfect pairing for dim sum. The food was excellent too!"

  • "We were very excited about eating at Ping Pong. Unfortunately it didn't live up to the hype. Our waiter was slow and inattentive. The food was not the best dim sum for the price."

  • "Did not like that we could not get a la carte for 2 of the 11 people on our table. Waste of the 36 dollar brunch."

  • "Food is wonderful!!! The only thing we don't like is that some of the seats don't have backs!"

  • "We've eaten at Ping Pong a few times and love their food. Most recently we went there for a special night out with our two teenagers. The sampler for four is great, provided everyone wants to eat - we had a picky adolescent so brought some home. Not typically a family place, but not unfriendly to kids especially older ones. My fifteen year old son loves it, as do my husband and I. Never had a bad meal and the drinks are yummy. Prices a bit steep for every day but worth it for an occasion."

  • "...but the service was a little off. Went here for Restaurant Week in DC, but the waitress was not very knowledgeable about how we should order. Three of the four dim sum courses came out at the same time. They apologized and gave us free glasses of champagne, but it was overwhelming and got cold fast. Maybe if we had not gone for the Restaurant Week Menu this would have happened? Also the chairs have no backs or cushions, so if you are there for a long meal you might need to get up and walk around a bit."

  • "My family and I had a delicious meal at Ping Pong while visiting DC. Our waiter was friendly and patient and it was great to be able to see the menu and order on the checklist they provide instead of having to muddle through ordering each time we wanted to try something. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a fun, dim sum meal."

  • "Really enjoyed the food. Service seemed slow given it was Sunday brunch and not crowded. Also the pricing was very confusing for brunch. The server explained it and it still made no sense. We wanted to order a la carte but I'm still not sure how the server calculated everything. I would go again but probably not for brunch."

  • "Baked puff chicken and veggie were both very pasty over seasoned stuffing with over glazed and under baked over all very salty and weren't flaky like it should. Dim sum were over steamed. Fried food came out OK but over all not as good as 6 month ago."

  • "The food took a little while to come out, but it was pretty good when it did. It was a really bustling lunch scene, so I'm not docking them too much for being a little slow, and the waitress continued to check up on us while we were waiting. I like that they have a pre fixe menu, so you get to try a bunch of different things. All in all, I plan a return visit to try some more! Very delicious."

  • "I went here for dinner with the lab I intern for, after attending a professional convention together. We had made a reservation for 20, but only about 13 of us showed up, which they were very understanding about. However, they seemed entirely under prepared for the large reservation we had informed them was coming and tried to put us at 2 separated round tables, so instead we all squeezed into one. The food was good but a bit too expensive for what was essentially 3 little hors d'oeuvres a plate. Nonetheless, it was fun."

  • "I have eaten at the Dupont Circle Ping Pong Dim Sum before and it was great. This location was equally as good. In fact, I am going back there tomorrow with a client. Love the place."

  • "Went for lunch, ordered the dim sum lunch which came with 6 steamed dumplings and one signature entree. The dumplings were good, but hot (you have been warned lol). The citrus chicken I had as my entree; however, was super hard I couldn't even cut through it with a knife."

  • "We ordered the fixed menu and had the perfect amount of food for a family of 4 with older children-which is never a complaint when traveling. It was great food with great service-everyone left full and enjoyed their meals! By far the best non-food truck food we've had in DC!"

  • "Have eaten at both of the Ping Pong restaurants in the past and the food is always excellent, attractively presented, served well, attractive environment. A bit overpriced is my main complaint. On the other hand I have gone back!"

  • "We loved the tapas style presentation of all of the delectables. Overall service and food were fantastic. It took us two rounds to get the Grey Goose chilled up right, but management was accommodating. I highly recommend it if you are looking for a a fun place w/ a group of friends and family."

  • "One can peruse the menu with all sorts of great choices. Or, we used the paper order form like those in sushi restaurants. While the restaurant doesn't have the traditional carts with dim sum, the alternate ordering system worked well and we got our food pretty quickly. Great variety and quite tasty. Reasonable prices for downtown DC."

  • "I have gone to Ping Pong on multiple occasions, and usually like to take first time dim-sum eaters there because the food is presented well and not intimidating. There is also a nice assortment of cocktails. The look and feel of the restaurant is also fun. As with any small plates restaurant in DC, get ready to pay! We typically spend over $30 per person. Service is fair depending on how many people are dining and sometimes the wait staff can forget to run your credit card--leaving it sitting on the table."

  • "No roving carts like you'd get at authentic dim sum restaurants, but still very good. Our group got the four-person meal and it was the perfect amount of variety to keep us satisfied. We'll definitely be coming back."

  • "I took some clients here for lunch this week and went back with other clients because of the excellent food and experience. The food was varied and very tasty"
    Dined on 7/16/2014
  • "Unfortunately they did not have the "signature dish" that 2 of us ordered for the lunch prefix. Instead they brought a total of 3 small crab cakes, somewhat overcooked. The steamed part was great but they need a new approach to problems with food not available (we were eating right when it opened at 11:30)"

  • "Had a great time with the family. Food was awesome. Everything we ordered was tasty. For the world cup the bar is makes certain drinks when the country plays on that day. The Persian Rose such a refreshing drink. Hope they keep it on the menu after the world cup."
