I was in Hanover for my two year anniversary (my girlfriend is a freshman at Dartmouth), and I knew that I needed to go to Pine to have a nice romantic dinner. From the get-go, the hostess as well as the server were very kind. They even accommodated us a whole 45 minutes before the reservation time I had made online. Overall, the food was amazing. The deviled eggs as a snack were delightful, and the portions for all the plates were very generous. Even for two college students (I ate a snack, appetizer and a main course) the prices were reasonable and the dinner came out to be well under what I thought it would be. I highly recommend the restaurant to anyone looking for a hip and posh place in Hanover, right on The Green.

The food choices were varied, and I saw many dishes I could have picked. Our dinners were great, and the waiter was one of the best I have ever had. My only complaint was that it was noisier than I could have liked for a special dinner.

Dined here Saturday night, and it was a great choice for eating late at 9:15 PM after a movie at the local Nugget Theater. The restaurant was packed and lively with every table taken, no doubt, because of some Dartmouth class reunions. I really enjoyed my appetizer of fresh, raw oysters from Duxbury, MA, but not so much my friend's appetizer of fried octopus. I found it rather tough and greasy from the heavy batter, when I sampled a small piece. I also enjoyed the salmon appetizer with faro, corn, spring onions, baby tomatoes, and a lemon vinaigrette sauce. My friend chose the duck confit pasta dish, and while it was tasty, there was far too much pasta. We were too full to have dessert, but enjoyed good coffee afterwards.

Food and service was impeccable. Not everyday dining. Wonderful for that special occasion. Biggest surprise was all the original cocktails that the bar staff had come up with. We tried both the Accidental City and the Heart of Oak. Accidental City - Rye, Armagnac, Benedictine, Demerara bitters and a rinse of Absinthe. Heart of Oak- Reposado Tequila, Mescal, Orange-Clove syrup, Pine bitters. Wow!

The Hanover Inn finally has a restaurant worthy of it. A lively bar scene, a place that's a gathering spot for locals, visiting alums and business groups alike. It serves maybe the best kale salad I have EVER eaten and features a straightforward menu of classic American favorites. The place is a bit nondescript----you might be in Des Moines or Tampa if it weren't for the views of the beautiful Dartmouth Green and the bustling main cross street in town---- but it is saved by warm, inviting lighting and a buzz in the air. The service is friendly but casual verging on the non-existent, especially after our order was taken. And the maitre d' who showed us to our table had an officious, off-putting manner that set a bad tone.

After attending a musical, which ended earlier than guesstimated, our group of 4 adults & 2 children asked if we could move our reservation up by 1/2 hour. The restaurant was very accommodating, & we were seated promptly at 5pm. We had a round of cocktails, (this is THE place for a good cocktail in the Upper Valley) followed by appetizers, dinner, & dessert. Service was spot on throughout the meal, & our server was very pleasant & engaging. Portions were reasonably sized, & everyone enjoyed each of the courses ordered. Of note were the mussels with plums, pickled ginger, & yuzu (outstanding), grilled octopus, & mocha chocolate mousse cake. All in all a delightful experience.

From the minute I see the gorgeous wood sign in the Hanover Inn Lobby for Pine, I am so happy to be at this amazing restaurant! We go to Pine every time we visit my Dartmouth daughter, who is on the Women's Volleyball Team, and we love it every time! The ambiance is one of my favorites world wide and the food in always so yummy and interesting but reliable! My family adores your burgers and this October visit, I thought the Pumpkin french toast was delectable--light, rich and needing no butter or syrup. I could spend my whole day in Pine as it just makes me feel so cozy and good!

I'm not sure why this restaurant was negatively reviewed recently. Our extended family was beautifully served - the food was quite delicious and very promptly served. It's possible the service was not the most spot-on, attentive ever, but it was perfectly adequate. Same for the food -- not the best out there anywhere but more than one could hope for in a town of limited competition. It certainly is better than the Hanover Inn has served in a very many years. The setting was cheery and upbeat while still retaining some formality, which is fun in a hotel. The price was not cheap but it was not unfair; I felt satisfied that we had received a fine value for what we paid. I thought they did a great job and I am happy we chose to eat there.

I have eaten at Pine numerous times. This most recent visit (Sept 2014), I felt that the quality of the food and the service had slipped a bit. The restaurant recently added outdoor seating. Is this extra capacity straining the restaurant? That might affect service but shouldn't affect food quality. I'd like to see Pine focus more on locally sourced ingredients and simpler recipes - meals don't need to be smothered in sauces.

Pine offers the most interesting menu in Hanover, NH, and all of its offering are well prepared and well presented. It is unusual, even in a college town, to find interesting vegetarian entrees rather than the usual variations on pasta, and this is much appreciated. The ambience is generally good, but the noise level can get high, and it isn't helped by inappropriate music which, I suppose, is selected to make the restaurant feel "energetic," as the choice is described on Open Table. Who wants a meal to be "energetic"? It might be right for the bar, which is usually lively, but the dining patrons suffer for this.

The Pine Restaurant is actually located in the newly renovated Hannover Inn. Parking was a bit of an issue since it is on Dartmouth campus. But I was delighted to find I could park directly across from the restaurant for no charge after 5:00. The new decor was stylish and up to date. The gas fireplace was a nice touch. I ordered the tomato bisque which was exceptional and the filet mignon as my entree. The filet was slightly over done, but the grilled brussel sprouts were the best I have ever had. I would go back just to order a side of brussel sprouts. Tyler did a good job of providing service. Overall, the meal was a great experience. I would recommend it to anyone in the area.

I consider Pine Restaurant a jewel in the town of Hanover. It was my choice this weekend for hosting two special guests. We were greeted warmly and seated immediately. The menu was very much to our liking, and everyone was pleased with their selection. Unfortunately our experience was not entirely pleasant due to an abrupt (approaching "rude") waiter. His attitude struck me as impatient at best. He registered displeasure at our every request. He knocked over my water and red wine which spilled on the front of my blouse and jacket. My companion requested a glass of club soda, which he thrust at me with a napkin and without comment. Even if he had had a bad day, his behavior seemed not in keeping with your restaurant.

There are no negatives at all about Pine. My spouse and I spent the weekend in Hanover and had two dinners, two breakfasts, and one lunch at Pine. At all five meals we enjoyed fabulous food and wonderful service. Some culinary high lights: the delicate and delicious deviled eggs we had twice as appetizers; the potato-crusted halibut; the cauliflower steak; the breakfast omelets. As for the service: who ever oversees the staff has done a spectacular job, as they are all highly professional and polished, while friendly and warm at the same time. In particular we would like to commend John McGovern for his superb work, his attentiveness, kindness, discretion, and overall professionalism.

It was fabulous! August 31 is our Anniversary day and The Pine did a great job! Our meal was delicious (o, that filet minion), the presentation was beautiful! And when William, our waiter, brought our cappuccino, we didn't expect any dessert. But he also brought - on the house - a very nice chocolate dessert with a nice white chocolate strip that says - Happy Anniversary! What a warm touch! We are very grateful to people who work at The Pine, they can make your special day even more special!

i've visited the inn for 50+ years. its dining history is, to be kind, a checkered one. the good news is that in its current incarnation new heights have been reached. very, very (if not great) good food, attractively presented at fairly reasonable prices. the ambience is exceptionally attractive, a recent renovation having succeeded admirably. oysters on the half shell have been consistently outstanding. the scallops are prepared just about as well as scallops can be prepared. when ordering salmon i ask for it "rare" because many kitchens tend to overcook fish. the chicken was ok; lobster/shrimp ravioli were better. portions are a bit modest: you're not going to wonder why there's so much food on the plate, but serving sizes are adequate.

The atmosphere is great, service is great and overall, a trendy place for a cocktail or to snack. Dinner was very good, but not off the hook for the prices of some of the mains. I was there with a date and at 10pm (on a Friday night no less), they turned up the lighting and we're setting tables, it kinda killed the vibe and made us feel like they we're saying get out now.... All in all a decent experience, but for what I spent, I expected a little better.

I really liked the ambiance of Pine, it was clean and comfortable and not at all stuffy. I also enjoyed the "snack" options which were perfect for two people to munch on (we ordered the sour cream potato chips and the deviled eggs). The service was quick but didn't feel rushed. I like the Pine a lot--wonderful vegetarian selections, very clean, food is excellent. The music leaves a lot to be desired---just noise and did detract. Might have been better with soft classical (Debussy, Chopin, Rachmaninoff), even Sinatra and Co; somehow the music just did not match the quality of the ambiance or the food. Shrimp, scallops just perfect; and next time: cauliflower steak!

We recently had Brunch at The Pine. The menu is limited and not very imaginative. The service was ok but nothing special. The place was empty but the servers were bunched together talking for much of our meal and were not paying attention to the patrons. I ordered a wine and had to remind the server about it. Twenty minutes after I ordered it, as I was finishing my entree it arrived. She apologized by saying "sorry but I am not used to people ordering wine in the morning", it was 1:30pm when my wine arrived, how thoughtful of her to comment. We are rooting for this restaurant but it continues to just miss the mark. It needs a manager that is present and observant of the staff and a chef that is willing to be a bit more adventurous.

We were sooo looking forward to dining at Pine. We arrived early (6;30) and were seated immediately. A young woman was our waitress, as we found out almost 10 minutes after sitting. Right, then we should have asked for another attendant. As she was not professionally trained and seemed to be more interested in talking to the bus boy then serving us dinner. The food was wonderful, the room beautiful, but the service DID effect our over all enjoyment.

Our group of three hadn't been there before. We arrived on time for our reservation. Another group of three was seated just before us. That group was seated at a table next to a window with a view of the Green. The hostess took us a depressing table in the back of Pine. We saw an empty table next to a window with a view of the Green. The hostess said that table was already taken. Then she went to find the manager. That took about fifteen minutes. The manager was very nice and seated us at that table. The food was excellent. The next day, my wife reacted to some herbs which affected her everywhere. Next time, we will request a table with a view of the Green. We hope the hostess will be more friendly then.

Our lunch was okay. Thought the ambiance was lovely, the waitress was quite annoyed when we talked and didn't order. Sour look, snippy replies were off-putting. The food was okay (grilled shrimp salad), the prices ridiculous - $50 for two salads and iced idea!! Are you kidding me? To end on a good note, though, I must say the two desk hostesses were helpful and friendly. All in all, would look elsewhere for a while, I am afraid.

We went to the Inn because our dad was the buyer three decades ago and loved taking his family there for dinner. The facility has changed in every way, which is not a bad thing. Our waiter, as it turned out, had been our parents' neighbor so we had some fun with him. Service was 5 star, quick, efficient, thoughtful. The food was 'eh' at best, but in Hanover you pay for locale and ambience. We went early, and were glad we did, because it got very very loud by about 6:15 on a Monday evening!
