Named after Earnest Hemingway’s famed fishing boat, Pilar Local Restaurant & Bar is looking to shake things up in South Florida’s dining and nightlife society. The revamped modern American restaurant offers an epicurean experience with a combination of culinary classics and a warm and gracious staff, making the tucked away hideaway the perfect destination for delectable yet casual decadence.

Offering Lunch and Dinner, executive Chef Frank Ferreiro has created each menu featuring brasserie comfort food with nightly dinner offerings with choice of family style sides, emphasizing on the restaurant’s fresh seafood selection and the finest local and imported ingredients.

  • "I love the business lunch specials! Actually, they give too much food and it would definitely still be a great deal if it were just a soup or salad and main course without the need for fries or more salad with the entree. Love the warm cookie afterwards--all included with a beverage. The music soundtrack is usually to my liking as well and the ambience and service are all compatible. "

  • "It had the makings for a lovely neighbourhood find, but it lacked in delivery and charm. Overall the food was well received by our guests, but do not order the Mahi Mahi as its overcooked. Service was really the kicker here... and the kitchen struggled with a table of 6 to serve the table in a coordinated timely manner. Also, bizarre, but it was extremely dark in the restaurant. So hopefully they will sort out the bugs and it can turn into the gem it has the makings to be."

  • "Until a few years ago we had been going here regularly. Then stopped as it really went south. Tried it again last week and were totally impressed. The new owners have it together. Finally, a sensible menu and excellent food. Since we always bring our own wine and were used to the $10 corkage, we were a bit surprised to find they now charge $20. Not the end of the world, but for a neighborhood cafe it seems like a bit much. However, since we were so elated with our return experience, we are going back tonight again. If it remains as good as last time, we will again put it on our regular list. Also, they did a fine job with the decor as well as now having tablecloths."

  • "This restaurant has always been a neighborhood favorite for us . This was the first time we had been there since ownership changed. The food is even better - all four of us had different dishes that we thoroughly enjoyed. The new owners have added some outside seating, new art work, table cloths, etcs. to spiff it up. It seems as though they have also added more tables to the inside and on the evening we were there, we were sandwiched between two very loud tables which made conversation at our table impossible at times - this was the only negative of the evening. We will definitely go back to try more of the new menu itmes but will request a corner table. Our waiter, Scott, was very friendly and helpful with menu suggestions."

  • "Pilar has outstanding food (loved everything except the calamari, no tentacles at all) and service wasps excellent! We had several appetizers and fesh fish entrees, all lovely and well-presented. We sat outside so not able to report on the noise level or ambiance it the rating system requires it, so don't rely on this, it seems ok. Outside seating in on the sidewalk by the parking lot, so not very nice but it was quiet and a nice evening. Would definitely go back. Try it!"

  • "Excellent food, excellent cocktails, excellent service. If you are looking for a hip, vibrant atmosphere, think again and choose another place, as Pilar's usual "crowd" is 60+... But as a place to have delicious food and cocktails, no attitude service, and without the need to fight the traffic... it's one of the best in Aventura."

  • "In a strip mall just east of Biscayne Blvd this was just the type of restaurant we wanted to find. Not a chain and exceptionally good. Very good menu with ethnic options along with "normal" options and a prix fixe of 4 courses and a happy hour (must sit in the bar for the happy hour). A modest looking interior where the food is the focus. Most accommodating staff, pleasant and knowledgeable. Ordered both the Prix Fixe and off the menu. latkes, special salads, Spanish steaks, all fabulous, Definitely recommend."

  • "THE FOOD WAS WONDERFULL. THE SNAPPER WAS GREAT AND THE SIDES WERE WONDERFUL. THE PLACE WAS VERY RELAXING. A LITTLE NIUSY BUT STILL RELAXING. THE SERVICE WAS WONDERFUL. WILL RECCOMMEND AND OF COURSE RETURN OFTEN. OMENU WAS VERY GOOD. SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE EVEN THOUGH THE MENU SMALL."

  • "We had occasionally dined at Pilar. The food was always good, but the service was very slow and the kitchen was slower. We had heard that they refurbished and upgraded, so we went back. The first time, everything was perfect! The second time, service was slow. This time, we were virtually ignored. Won't be back soon! Unfortunately for this restaurant who were so attentive to snowbirds, we are the locals that get them through the non - tourist summers. Too bad, so sad!"

  • "My neighbor suggested it and I never knew where it was until they joined Open Table. Good food, good service, nice ambience. The owner was there and all night he was going from table to table making sure that everyone was enjoying their evening. He was charming and had a devilish sense of humor. We were a party of three - my neighbor had been there under the last owners and I was a newby. She noted that she liked the new menu better and I have to say I was very pleased with this restaurant. Reasonable prices with very good service. My meal (spinach salad followed by chicken parm) was fantastic and all three members of my party left happy. I will definitely return and I would recommend this place to anyone."

  • "A Sunday afternoon lunch at Pilar was a perfect time for a superb lunch. The food was outstanding, and the complimentary mimosa was good, alothough unexpected!! My friend and I did not pick the brunch menu, opting to have the lunch menu. Everything was served beautifully, and the tastes were delicious... We were treated royally, and the very friendly staff made sure we had what we needed to make our dining experience great!!"

  • "We liked Pilar, we really did. Good food, well prepared, nicely presented. Friendly waiter. Decent decor. It was the wine choices and prices that tampered our enthusiasm. Let's see, you can buy a bottle of Santa Margarita pinot grigio for $22 in any supermarket down here, so why are they charging $13 a glass for a skimpy pour? Or did the pour look skimpy because they're using such big glasses? Then, $11 for a glass of Dashwood sauvignon blanc? You get the entire bottle for $13. Waioter touted my wife on the meatball, a new addition to the menu. Veal, beef, cheese. She ordered it as an app, and it was wonderful. Sure, at $15 for one meatball, it had better be wonderful. Overall, though, we enjoyed Pilar's."

  • "Pilar was our weekday fish place for years - until it sold last year. After the change in ownership we went in a few times and left dissatisfied. Last night was a complete turnaround. Hats off to management for their attentive staff, improved menu and delicious food! We had the grilled mahi mahi and lobster ravioli and both were perfectly created, along with the fresh grilled veggies. We'll be back - often."

  • "The new owners at Pilar have made it a great neighborhood lunch spot with a varied menu and a very reasonable Business Man's lunch and excellent a la carte choices. Love the gorgonzola salad! Brunch was far less successful, falling far short on the French Toast. Returned for dinner, which was good. Delicious burger and recommended tuna tartar. Our fish was dry. Service ( better at lunch) was haphazard with our waiter training another, but was in need of training himself. It is new with a young staff and ownership and hopefully will improve as their staff solidifies. We'll definitely be returning. Glad to have it in the neighborhood."

  • "The food at this restaurant was pretty good, not the best I've had, but far from the worst. However it seemed as though the staff was not prepared for such a large Valentine's day crowd. I give them effort for trying to be prepared…..our reservation was for 7, but they called us to come 15 minutes earlier in attempt to prepare. Our servers started out very attentive, but once the crowds came in that attention went out the window. The other couple we dined with waited an absurd about of time for their food. So long in fact, they had to get it to go since we had another obligation. There was never any explanation given as to why things took so long. Also, this restaurant has an extremely elderly clientele."

  • "Heard there was a new owner....ate their a couple of times previously but from the minute we walked in there was something about Pilar that we felt and it started with the owner greeting us, explaining his plans....then the server was just great going over everything in a patient way,.....There is no rushing in this restaurant. The food superb...Everything is on the menu but I had fish, not a big fish eater and it was so so tastey. If there were more stars to rate Pilar I would have gone further than the five I gave Pilar."

  • "Generally nice meal, good wait staff. Rather long wait for entrees, acknowledged by the wait staff. Entrees included broiled fish and hamburger. Certainly shouldn't have taken an hour. Food was tasty. I am not sure if the seared tuna was fresh or previously frozen from the presentation and taste. I asked for a substitution of the vegetables and the kitchen then neglected to place the other sides described on the menu on the plate. It wasn't very crowded, so I don't particularly understand the kitchen confusion. Fairly reasonably priced. Probably would give it another try again.."

  • "Though primarily a fish restaurant, I never had fish there as a main course. The risotto with short rib is perfectly executed, the burgers are amazing. I brought complainers with me, and they had nothing negative to say!! The new items on the menu are surprising (like latkes or chicken wings), but are made the right way, full of flavor, proper consistency, great accompanying sauces, etc. I was there 2 days after the new owners took over, it was a bit rough, but clearly all the rough edges were removed and Pilar will continue to be THE place to eat in Aventura (provided you like good food and elegant, laid-back atmosphere)"

  • "Cheers to the new owners! Although the prices seem a bit higher, they have kept a similar menu. There is a great variety...something for everyone. The food has remained really good. We all had fish selections, which were fresh and tasty! The appetizer salads had good portions. We did not order desserts, but they looked great! The manager bought us each a drink and quickly set up another table to accommodate us. Classy to have compensated us with a complimentary cocktail."

  • "While the food at Pilar was decent, our meal was over shadowed by the poor service. To summarize, there were lots of wait staff, but they did not know how to serve. We lacked water throughout, our food came out sporadically so we weren't eating together, and our order was taken incorrectly so three of us did not get what we wanted. I think the reestaurant would benefit by someone being on the floor directing the staff. Good luck."

  • "Nice atmosphere, a pleasant change from the 'chains' and fast food. They are trying hard to please new owner. The grilled shrimp was the best plate of the four. Polenta was lumpy, tasted like it wasn't from scratch. I'd go back for the quiet relaxed dining in the neighbourhood"
