A word from Piggyback Tavern
Piggyback Tavern, located in Downtown Forest Park just 9 miles west of the Chicago Loop, is all about bbq & beer ... tacos & tequila. ABC Channel 7"s "Hungry Hound" Steve Dolinsky featured us on his TV show and recommends Piggyback.

Our Q is dry-rubbed and smoked fresh every day over hickory, oak and cherry wood. Brisket, pulled pork, chicken and ribs are the focus. Three signature bbq sauces are served table-side. Our tasty tacos are great on their own or on the side. In addition to bbq & tacos, we have an open fire grill that we cook our burgers and chops on. As for the bar, we've got 20 craft beers on draft that we rotate, over 20 cool beers in can, over 20 tequilas, over 20 whiskeys and bourbons, several margaritas, and a fun wine list.

Our lower level speakeasy lounge features craft cocktails and a cool vibe.

Come visit Piggyback, where we have something for everyone!

  • "great smoked BBQ meats...NO Onion rings...NO Bacardi Rum...while squeezing the BBQ sauce container which was clogged the screw on nozzle top BLEW OFF shooting sauce in all directions at great velocity...the barrage of expletives from my wife were impressive"

  • "Food was good but I've had better BBQ in the city. Felt rushed by both the hostess and waiter."

  • "Martinis are watered down and served in champagne glasses. Our server was abrupt, not to say snippy. But the ribs and collard greens are great!"

  • "We went for the ribs and they were out of them at 6:15. The martini was undrinkable. Too bad because the first time I went just after it opened, it was great."

  • "I've had the tacos and the yard chicken (wood-fired), and they've both been great."

  • "The combination of great food and great service is hard to find but we got it at Piggyback Tavern. The waitress was very attentive despite having a large crowd due to the Hawks game. My favorite dish was the Patty Melt - the best I've ever had. The veggie tacos and mac and cheese were also delicious."

  • "We went to Piggyback for Mother's Day Brunch. We had ordered take out before but this was our first dining-in experience. First of all, the restaurant accommodated a last minute request to add 4 to our party, which was great. Overall the food was very good. Love the brisket and zesty BBQ sauce. The burgers were a big hit with the teens and were enormous. Some of the breakfast entrees are very basic but not bad. Wish I could remember our server's name. He was very nice and attentive on that busy morning. Prices were reasonable. I would like to go back in the evening with friends to experience more of the bar scene. I love the central bar and kitchen set up which will makes for a great ambiance all the way from brunch to late night drinks."

  • "Taste and smell combine for a BBQ lover's dream! Delicious food, exciting ambience, great wait staff -- all in this Forest Park gem. Gives westside BBQ joints run for their money. Marvelous restaurant experience, but don't ignore the take-out option!"

  • "We were in a mood for meat, and Piggyback is were we go for mounds of smoked meat on large metal trays that we can decorate with a choice of 4 sauces. The combo brisket and pulled pork which really needs no sauce, was smoky and moist. The chicken and ribs were tender with just a bit of crunch. Really like the Georgia caviar side. Very nice beer list on tap. We've been there with attentive service and with having to flag down random employees for another beer."

  • "We went on a very cold night! We were seated right in front of the door! We had to put jackets on throughout our dinner! We ordered an appetizer, and the entrees were served along with our appetizer! We asked about the ribs and the sauces! Sauces are on the table in plastic bottles! Every sauce tasted and smelled the same! Since they do them in a dry rub with out sauce, We did not like any of the sauces, because they all tasted the same! I did take home half of the rib entrée home and reheated them with Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce, and absolutely loved them! But I really think they were way over priced! Service was also an issue! They have a great selection of beers! I think if I return, it would be at the bar with appetizers!"

  • "Eaten here many times but the last three not good. Tasteless corn bread, cold fries, bitter coleslaw and warm beer. Horrible service. Server admitted the cornbread is not good but did not remove it from the bill."

  • "The sides are awesome especially the mac. The ribs and brisket were a little dry or my taste, but they were still good."

  • "My friends and I came here and tried the brisket/catfish tacos, chili fries, pork nachos, and the slider trio. Everything was top notch. Very flavorful and well cooked. A couple complaints, the service was excruciatingly slow. It took over 45 min to get our food. We each ordered a cocktail and were not able to get another one because our waitress never came to check on us until we got our food. The second complaint was we ordered our nachos with only cheese on half of them, well they gave us a half order of nachos. we understood how the misunderstanding happened but when we got the check we were still charged full price. Annoying! Will probably be back but may only do carryout from now on. Not interested in another 2 hour dinner."

  • "I'm very big into BBQ food and this place was awesome! Had a big group and tried almost everything. I would say everything was delicious except I was not a huge fan of the cornbread. Kind of blan for my taste but besides that food and drinks were awesome!"

  • "What a nice surprise--a BBQ place that has a choice of items for vegetarians! The fish tacos were excellent, and a little spicy. A nice touch. Also, the fried shrimp po'boy was huge and very tasty! You've got to try the "Hot Rita" margarita if you like hot things. It's a different drink and has the right balance of jalapeno and pineapple. The server, Laura, was very attentive and made sure we were well taken care of. It was my husband's birthday and she let him order his choice of dessert, on the house. The skillet cake was so moist and was excellent served warm with ice cream! Give this restaurant a try...I know we'll be going back!"

  • "Piggyback Tavern is a gem, and a great addition to lively Forest Park. Service is excellent and knowledgeable. Dry rub 'cue is off the beaten path for Chicago, but Piggyback does a great job of making it accessible for newbies and combining it with other great tastes. Try the Georgia Caviar salad. Great decor and ambience. There were numerous families with tiny ones enjoying themselves during our Friday evening visit. Great craft beer list - servers are glad to help with a recommendation."

  • "My family and I went here to eat on New Year's Eve. Got there at 5 and got a great little booth spot. The place is very clean and open. The bar is lovely and separated from the dining area. Derick, our waiter, was attentive. Gave us great recommendations on beer from their large selections of crafts on draft and cans. The grown up got ribs. I got pulled pork with mine. They come sans sauce (dry rub ribs) and you can add your own at the table from their selection of 4. It was really delicious. The mac n cheese was amazing. Dessert topped it off - ice cream for the kids and s'mores for me! (The best s'mores I've had.) And a whiskey flight for me and my husband. A great place to eat BBQ. We will definitely go back."

  • "Great relatively new place in Forest Park is THEE place for southern-style Q in the very near suburbs. Although ribs and brisket are the main stream stars here, the tacos are to die for !!! Either pork, chicken, brisket, veggie or a fish taco with catfish ( not the dreaded and overpriced and bottom feeder Tilapia here, kids....). Great craft beer choices: 20 on tap daily. Had both the Tyraneena Rocky's Revenge and the Lakefront Gear, both brown ales, and they are perfect accompaniment to any food choice. Prices are in the middle: not cheap, but nor a rip off. TV's all around to catch all the bowl games and the Hawks, or any sports choice."

  • "The craft beer selection is good but it gets changed a bit too often...so if you find a beer you like it may not be there next time you go in...the food is good...the sauces are good and should be bottled for sale. I personally enjoy the chilli cheese fries and the brisket. Good for watching a sports game on the televisions around the bar...or youcan sit at a table away from the sports and take in the ambience..."

  • "Hostess was great,, sat us down right away. Restaurant looked good, clean. Waiter came over fast and brought water, I ordered a beer. Waited...waited....waited...saw server waiting on other tables...waited....saw beer poured getting warm at bar. Waited nine minutes for the beer and still no beer so we booked out of there. Server was cool but I think had at least half the restaurant and no help. The server was running around busy and appeared to have everything happening to him alone and no one helping. Really can't rank the food because I didn't have any. Too bad, I was really pumped to go to Piggyback but with service like this they won't be around long."

  • "A friend's mother had lunch and said the food was good; so when my friends wanted to have dinner, I suggested we all try it. Then, I searched sights for reviews and got nervous as several reviews stated the food was not good. I ran across reviews in YELP which showed a high overall rating and felt better, until I read some of the lower rated reviews that were unfavorable (the barbeque was noted as dry & awful). However, my friends and I decided to give it a try anyway. Overall, we enjoyed everything we ordered: pork ribs, pulled pork, catfish, brisket, greens, mac & cheese, fries. The only dry item was the appetizer wings which were cooked too hard. Everything else was good -- my favorite being the brisket, catfish and home fries."

  • "We came here to celebrate my husband's bday. All he wanted was good beer and good bbq and they delivered. Service was fantastic as was the ambience. We started off w chili cheese fries which were a delicious treat. My husband ordered a full rack of ribs which were delicious. The pulled chicken sandwich was a hit too. I ordered the fried catfish tacos and I didn't like the cream sauce that was served w it so I just picked out the fish and ate that. We didn't order dessert bc we had bday cake wtg at home but they did sound delicious! We will definitely be back very soon."

  • "Very respectable BBQ and a world class beer list on draft. However service poor (managers and hostesses sat around with little to do....not assisting our incompetent, overworked waiter). Service was even a bit dishonest. Beers that they didn't have, or wouldn't serve on the flight (it said pick any four) they would just substitute something else and hope we wouldn't notice. Be honest, we'd understand! Also service was slow and incomplete (didn't check back once, nor offer 2nd drink or desert!). At the end of the night they left something off our bill. I had to tell them that they forgot to charge us for our dinners! That was the right thing to do, but after such a lousy experience I found it a bit difficult to do!"

  • "This place was open on Monday but not busy. Decor is pub restaurant with sports bar, though kid friendly. Several families with kids finished and left soon after we arrived. We enjoyed the fried green tomatoes appetizer, the burger that got raves from my partner, and the ribs with cornbread by me. The rib sauces were a mixed bag - I preferred the spicy one. They have a great beer list. The keg ran out of the first one we both ordered - one glass was half full - though as a nice touch that one was free. They offer tasting of their drafts before ordering - there are lots of relatively unfamiliar beers on the list. For a tasty (meaty) meal in a casual atmosphere and a great beer list, it's well worth going."

  • "The food was awesome, great BBQ! The service sucked! We made a 7:15 reservation and when we arrived five minutes early, we were told they don't seat reservations until the time it is for and they were running a few minutes behind and were encouraged to have a drink at the bar. We ordered drinks and ended up waiting past 7:30 for our table. Once seated, the service was so-so and when we finished we asked about going downstairs to the bar. We were told to close out our check and then we were welcome to go downstairs. We paid and started to go downstairs when we were told by another person that there was a private party downstairs. We told them we thought we would have been told that when we asked and promptly."

  • "We love this relatively new restaurant in Forest Park. While the basic options are limited (brisket, short ribs, chicken and a few others), the menu provides several variations to fit many tastes. The tacos are excellent. Overall the experience has been improved each time we visit since it first opened. Kid friendly during the day and early evening. Service is also greatly improved since it was first opened and is now excellent. My only complaints are that it can be a little loud in the evening and relies on quite a few high-top tables, which are not my favorite."

  • "I am a barbeque addict, and after living in the South for a number of years, I was pretty sure I'd just have to drive 700 miles back to get the good stuff. Of all the BBQ places I've tried in the Chicagoland area, THIS IS IT. Their pulled pork is scrumptious, and that alone is worth the trip. Their fries are an all-star as well, and even if you think you're getting way too many on your plate, somehow they just, well, disappear. Having southern roots, I also love the fried green tomatoes -- yummy! I brought two newcomers here for lunch, and they were both very happy campers after their meal. Be sure to stop by on Tuesdays for $5 Burger Day -- it also includes pork, beef brisket, and chicken sandwiches as well."

  • "Piggyback Tavern features dry-rub BBQ, a good selection of beers, and hearty portions. I had a half-slab of tasty ribs, which did come with a light coating of sauce, and there is a choice of three sauces at each table. My wife ordered the sliders (chicken, brisket, & pulled pork). Others in our party ordered nachos (huge portion), and pulled pork/pulled chicken sandwiches with fries. Our party also shared sides/appetizers such as fried green tomatoes and "Georgia caviar," which included corn, black eyed peas, etc. I can't comment on the dessert choices because we were all too full to try any of them."
