Diner Reviews
  • "I had been to Pig and Prince twice before but for cocktails only. Most restaurants in Montclair are BYOB, so my friends and I have been meeting up at P&P for before dinner drinks. Every time we've gone, we've ended up wondering why we didn't just eat there. I was very glad to finally get the chance this weekend. Everything was delicious! I had the arugula salad and the skate for dinner. The sriracha potatoes were a little too spicy for my taste but still worked well with the pickled vegetables. For dessert I had two scoops of ice cream - pistachio and cinnamon toast crunch. I didn't try any signature cocktails this time around, but all of the ones I tried before were great. I definitely recommend this restaurant."

  • "the food is amazing and keeps on getting better. you can never go wrong with the small plates and pizza. the bar is perfect and the overall ambiance is fabulous. the best tuna tartar ever!"

  • "Really very good food drink service and vibe. Outside dining looks a bit sketchy on the street and could use privacy fence"

  • "Atmosphere was cool and unique, but portions were small. Food was very underwhelming and expensive. Service was bad. And, oddly enough, there were barely any pork entrees on the menu. I wouldn't go back."

  • "I recently had brunch at Pig and Prince on a Sunday with a girlfriend. I ordered the eggs benedict and she ordered the omelet. I enjoyed my dish and my friend enjoyed hers. We also had brunch cocktails. I had a bellini and my girlfriend had the mimosa. I would definitely come back again for brunch. The food and cocktails were reasonably priced and also very good. The food was so good that I could have eaten more! To that end-I think there should be some more food on the plate-perhaps that is why the prices are reasonable. Also, there should be dessert available at brunch. I have been there for dinner and had dessert. The desserts are delicious."

  • "Dined here several times for dinner, but this was my first brunch. Loved the menu choices. Had the confit with sweet potato has and two eggs done just right. Attentive and efficient server."

  • "Upon confirming my reservation, I was seated. I sat, and sat, and sat. I finally asked who my server is. Reluctantly, one named Dan came over and said he would serve me. I asked if mine was his table. He said no. I asked what happened. He said the server for my table didn't want to do it. That was so weird and made me feel like nothing. I was truly invisible and they cared less that I was there. The place is noisy also and looks like a hangar for old B 52 aircraft from World War 2. Cold is the feel actually, in environment as well as treatment. Dan smiled, but no one else serving did. It made me wonder if management is unkind and even mean. I will never go there again. • "Second visit to restaurant and had friends meet us. Lots of fun and very nice menu even though it is a little limited. Waiter and service was excellent. He really new his wine and beer and was very helpful with suggestions. Good time for all!"

  • "The food and atmosphere were superb. Our waiter was very accommodating and nice. We had a great experience."

  • "I have dined here many times and have been returning less and less. The food is very good but the service is consistently poor. The wait staff is more interested in chatting amongst themselves in than serving customers. Water was never refilled. Recommendations were incorrect. It is such a shame - the restaurant has such potential with the location and fantastic chef. "

  • "The menu is very unique, made up of small plates, entrees, charcuterie, pizzettes, and pastas and everything is so delicious. A little limited in choice, but a great handful of dishes for those with adventurous palates. "

  • "The food and ambience were outstanding. Food tasted great but portions were terribly small- I left hungry. Our waiter was awful. He was downright rude to us at times. I would never return here. "

  • "For the price we were surprisingly disappointed. The food was just okay and we felt rushed."

  • "Went there for Sunday brunch. The food and selection were very good. Many choices and even food for picky kids. Service was excellent. Only issue was price. $40/person (adult) is pretty steep for brunch when you're essentially eating bacon, eggs and fruit. For maybe throw in a bloody mary or mimosa. Regardless,.we.had a lovely time and family enjoyed and we had a great family brunch. "

  • "mediocre food/limited menu with all the fab restaurants in Montclair and environs, I would not go back to Pig & Prince"

  • "For anyone who loves anything associated with the railroad this restaurant is amazing. The original clock stuck on the time it closed (made that up but there is an old clock that is doesn't work). I had the pork chops. Very tasty and tender! The waiter was really nice too."

  • "This restaurant is definitely a stunner, the inside alone is worth the trip but food is also great."

  • "The waiter was very nice. The dessert was good. The wine was good. The appetizer elote was terrible. The steak was chewy flavorless and oy. The sweet potatoes were to salty. The fingerling potatoes were greasy. I would've rather eaten at Wendy's then here and I hate fast food."

  • "Went to brunch on a Sunday and had a great time. Cool eclectic menu. The grilled cheese is outstanding. Bloody mary was nice and spicy, but not much liquor was in it. The decor is really cool as well. Def going back soon."

  • "We arrived at 6:30 and we were seated promptly. We then ordered small plates as starters, entrees, and sides. When the starters arrived there was a portion difference between several of the same dishes. The half portion of risotto served in a saucer...for the price I expected more. The cauliflower salad which was 3 or 4 pieces of cauliflower nicely dressed and presented...but $13.00! Our entrees came a short time later. The full order ($21.00) was served on a dinner plate! Come on put it in a bowl at least so it can be eaten on the bowl not the table. The chicken Kiev came burned on the bottom and the chicken was overcooked. One positive was the server who was knowledgeable. I don't think the Pig is on the menu for future dining."

  • "The atmosphere is cool as it is located in an old train station. Both the bar menu and the regular menu are so interesting, sophisticated and different. We enjoyed our cocktails and food immensely. It is pricey but the food is worth it. It was fun to be adventurous with our food choices."

  • "Pig and Prince is a great spot for brunch. Living in Montclair, there are plenty of options for brunch. P&P is my new favorite. Everything was excellent. Prices are reasonable. And there was no waiting outside on the sidewalk like that other very good brunch spot on Bloomfield Ave."

  • "I was really surprised by our experience because I had heard great things and had been looking forward to our first time at the restaurant. I ordered the short rib and it contained no meat - it was completely a chunk of fat. The rest of the meal was unremarkable. There were 4 of us dining, and all found it mediocre. Desserts which can usually not go wrong - were flat and unsatisfying. I brought guests from out of town and thought this would become our destination for a night out - but it really was so uninspiring that I don't imagine we'll be back. I might recommend for drinks to enjoy the dramatic space, but not for food. I hope this feedback is helpful and that the restaurant can reach its potential. Good luck."

  • "We really liked it and had a good time ,good service. Our waiter had good recos. The scene is fairly hip for NJ, so that alone made me like it. Had a really nice bar area love to come back and try that. And of course easy parking, which also makes it a top choice."

  • "My wife and I have been here a few times over the past 2-3 years. While it has been consistently good, the quality of the food and service took a big step up during our last visit. My wife started with the Tempura Frog Legs, then the Duck as her entree. I had a half order of the Sausage Risotto to start, followed by the Pork Tenderloin. Everything was fantastic! Their desserts have gotten MUCH better over the past few months. We're told they have a new pastry chef, which would explain the much needed improvement. Finally, for the first time we would say the service was excellent. Yesterday was our best experience at this restaurant, by far. We will likely include Pig and Prince more often in our rotation of date night restaurants."

  • "the food was very good and many items were very different . things like lamb tartar with strawberries-- portons were a good size. a lot of thought and imagination was put into the menu. not to many martini specials- actually non at all- but i am sure they could have made anything- except they didnt have peach schnapps. we had ordered a side dish of a vegetable- the wrong one came out . we sent it baack and got the rite one as we finished dinner- manager comped us on that. whise decision on his part. they have many gluten free items on the menu- but they do not serve gf bread"

  • "The description of all the food on the menu, including the ingredients, is truly mouthwatering but the actual food is a big letdown, especially considering the prices. Great beer selection, tasty cocktails, though. If you're just looking for a few drinks this is a great place but I wouldn't come back for the food, personally."

  • "We went to Pig and Prince on a Saturday evening. The service was wonderful despite it being a busy night. The food was excellent as it has been the previous times I have eaten there. The rabbit ravioli was different, but delicious. We also enjoyed the quinoa salad and the best dessert- donut bread pudding with Cinnamon Toast ice cream. Excellent food with a hip vibe. Highly recommended."

  • "The restaurant is in a restored railroad waiting room with high arched ceilings. The space is wonderful. The food is very good (not wonderful). The service was prompt and attentive until the place filled up and then the staff seemed overwhelmed. I would definitely try it again and hope that the kinks are ironed out."

  • "This is a very fun place. I could see the bar scene here really developing. Food was good quality I just wish they had a few vegetarian choices to add. Nice wine list with nice choices by the glass."

  • "We enjoyed a delicious range of food of more unusual taste treats including duck creme brulee was to die for, and bison tartar which could have used a bit more seasoning but was very good. I loved my roast skate with roasted and pickled vegetables and the duck fat roasted brussel sprouts and the sunchoke tots were wonderful. I would go back just for those. Desserts were a little disappointing but I would try again."

  • "Upon my first visit, the Pig and Prince quickly became my favorite restaurant in the northern New Jersey area, and I suggest it as a destination whenever the opportunity arises. The chef uses amazing ingredients in new and interesting ways, and I appreciate that the menu is changed each season to show off great new combinations. The cocktail selection is equally unique and delicious. That staff is always highly attentive without making you feel like they are hovering, and empty plates never stay on the table for long, even on busy holidays like Valentine's Day when the dining room is packed full. Try the Duck Duck Goose appetizer if you want something decadent and different."

  • "Packed restaurant, fairly loud ambiance but still able to hear the person across the table with large cathedral like ceilings to make the room more lively. Although it was busy, service was still excellent, waiter very attentive, and kitchen churning out food nicely. Almost as fast as a Chinese restaurant but I digress. I come from NYC restaurants with fairly new and different foods and feel that this restaurant is quite a gem. Prices reasonable, quality and quantity is just right. It seems like a flair of French American more so American cuisine. Overall Montclair has top rated restaurants and would definitely come here again with my date."

  • "We went here on a Wednesday night for an early dinner. It was pretty quiet. The ambience was spectacular and the interior trendy, but comfortable. They have a great selection of wine and beer, as well as specialty cocktails. They also serve regular water and sparkling water. The service was great. The server that helped us out was super knowledgeable and was able to make suggestions about our food and drink. We got three appetizers: bison tartar, smoked salami (prepared in house), and a chicken liver-foie gras mousse. For the man course, we had duck breast and a pan seared skate. Dessert was the burnt brown sugar ice cream and the cinnamon toast crunch ice cream. All the food was amazing. Overall, a great first time experience."
