Pig and PrinceCool vibe, good food, small portionWe ate at Pig and Prince last night with a group of friends. It was our second visit in three weeks; our first was not great so we thought we would give it a second try. The entrees were definitely better (on our first visit, the menu was changing for the season so there were no specials offered) with a few intriguing specials. The short rib ravioli were delicious as was the steak special. One fish entree was just plain "fishy" and a disappointment. Pig ear app was delicious and salad was nicely done. Unfortunately, even though we shared apps, had entrees and deserts, we were hungry by the time we got home! We are not huge eaters so this is unusual for us. Cool bar & wine selection but Montclair has many equally distinguished BYOs,5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat gastropubVery high attention to detail on great food with excellent beer selection!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMReally delicious!Though the portions are not big, the flavors are! The bread was pleasant and the olive oil was so fresh and flavorful. The pork meatball appetizer atop creamy polenta and a quail egg may sound like an unusual combination, but the different flavors melded together perfectly. The Peking duck main dish is not the usual Chinese-restaurant fare. Served over vegetables and spaetzle it was divine. As was the salmon. Opted not to have dessert, though they sounded really good. Despite the portion sizes and no dessert, left the restaurant sated.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved it - I'll be back!Terrific reception upon arrival. Delicious drinks, food was flavorful and delicious.
The bar scene was crazy! Four deep at one point in the evening, can de distracting as the layout is open with integrated bar and dining areas. Can be a bit too loud!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is definitely a specialThis is definitely a special occasion kind of place based on the prices. The food was outstanding though.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMI enjoyed everything aboutI enjoyed everything about the restaurant except that there was too much salt used for seasoning. If less salt was used I think the experience would be great. I have traveled the world eating at hundreds of restaurants it seems in this area of America more salt is used. Great service and ambiance. You've got a good thing going.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was wonderful andThe food was wonderful and the décor was very pleasant. It was a little noisy. I thought the menu was a little hard to follow, particularly the dessert menu. Everything we got was delicious, but I think the menus could be a little more user friendly.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMNJ SurpriseJersey needs more places like this; not in a strip mall with nice architecture and a bar with more than the normal big distributor offerings. Food is diverse and well prepared. Service efficient but restrained, I'm going back.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother delicious meal byAnother delicious meal by Chef Carrino and his team. The Easter Brunch had something for everyone and all ages.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food; gorgeous venue;Excellent food; gorgeous venue; very attentive service. Really impressed. Will be back!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMFelt a different experienceFelt a different experience and food choices, some entrees seemed to be smaller portions for the prices, but all were very delicious..3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMA couple things weren't spectacularA couple things weren't spectacular, but what they do well, they do amazing!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was outstanding , theFood was outstanding , the server had exceptional knowledge of the menu. A bit of a slow finish to the meal, but overall well worth it.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMBest meal I've had in a longBest meal I've had in a long time. The tuna tartare with avocado mousse was incredible. I ordered the venison with collard greens - amazing! Perfectly rare with a delicious sear. This is my 4th or 5th time here - one of the best restaurants in Montclair, hands down.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous dining experienceFood, service, and atmosphere were excellent. We had the endive salad and the octopus for starters, both were delicious and beautifully presented, and we both had the steak special. The grass-fed, hormone-free beef was delicious, cooked to the temperature requested, and was paired with a delicately flavored potato gratin, sautéed fennel and carrots. One thing that made the meal extra special is that our server let us taste a couple of different wines we were interested in before we chose which to order.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThis little piggy.....My wife and I were very pleased with the whole experience at Pig & Prince. We read about it in NJMonthly and had to try it. We love Charcuterie and cheeses. Being made in house was a big seller to try something unique.
The second selling point was the fact that it was an old train station.
Great experience, definitely make an Opentable reservation. We dont mind waiting but you WILL wait if you do not make a reservation in advance3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGood, not knock-your-socks-offOverall good but not worth a 45 minute drive for us again. Lots of other comparable (or better) restaurants closer to me.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
