My wife and I decided to try Pietrasanta for dinner before our Saturday Broadway night show. The Restaurant is very conveniently located on 9th avenue at 47th Street. I ordered minestrone soup and Salmon which was perfectly prepared, and my wife ordered a chicken dish which she said was excellent. The portions were very generous, and the service was very attentive. I had wine with my meal, and we shared a dessert. The bill came to $75 plus tip which for NYC was a very good value. I would recommend this restaurant highly for excellent food and very good value. You do need a reservation which can be had on open table.

Though I live in New York City, I hadn't eaten at Peitrosanta until just recently. I ate there with a group of friends. The food was good (I had the fish special) and the service was good. Our group had to get to a show and the staff got us there in plenty of time.

This is a great neighborhood find. Food is excellent. Not super fancy but great peasant food.... and I say that in the most loving way. There is plenty of room, no one rushes you, they have plenty of inexpensive house wines by the glass and by the bottle. Awesome inexpensive option.

Only a visitor to NYC, but this is a must go to restaurant whenever I'm in town. Stumbled upon this place in 1996 & have been coming back almost every time I'm in town. Was so glad to find that this restaurant's food was as great as always. Had grilled octopus with a sauce to die for as our appetizer. I had a veal dish, while my friend had a fresh fish dish - wonderful! Desserts were a necessary over indulgence. This place has a varied menu, close to the theatres without the overwhelming crowds. This place should be on one's must do list if in NYC & remotely near this area!

Run-of-the-mill Theater District Italian. Not awful, but nothing special. Dull, predictable menu, quality OK. Service indifferent, but quick enough to make your curtain time. Definite not a special NYC dining experience.

I had a day in New York to break up the return from Italy to the west coast and decided to eat one more real Italian lunch. I had the penne with pancetta and peas in a vodka sauce. I have a recipe for this, but theirs was better (and the pasta was cooked perfectly). Two glasses of a nice Chianti, terrific bread (and I asked for olive oil, very NOTItalian, but couldn't resist getting some more really good olive oil) -- it was the perfect lunch. Another hot and humid day in NYC, so I sat just inside the open side door -- got the breeze but not the hot sun. Pedro offered excellent service. (I asked what was his favorite pasta and he said, I can eat all of them!)

This is a great trattoria in Hell's Kitchen, far enough from frenetic Times Square but close enough to the Theater district. The food & service was top notch. I started with a salad of pistachio-encrusted goat cheese & roasted beets on top of radicchio, arugula, & endive...wonderful! Then onto Ravioli di Zucca (pumpkin ravioli w/ a roasted red pepper sauce)...heavenly! My husband started with the classic caesar salad (he said it was great) and then onto Trenette Scampi (black pasta, sauteed shrimp, asparagus, & tomatoes in garlic and olive oil)...fantastic! This he raved about and I tasted---he was right! We were too full for dessert, but saw some go by and they looked great. The service was fantastic, the pasta is homemade--we will return!

Pietrasanta used to be one of my favorite restaurants and that is probably why I keep on going back. However, each time the experience is less than pleasant and my most recent experience will probably keep me from coming back for a long, long time. We had a reservation. We where seated soon enough but at a dirty and unset table near the door to the outside patio which opens frequently so the temperature of the restaurant was warm to hot. We sat for a while and finally received some bread and water. Bring back the original dinner rolls. The bread served now is not very good. Our salad came out quick enough. The salad portion is small and the price for a side salad is high. We where never offered the 3 course dinner.

The pasta was homemade. I ordered a Farfalle past dish with smoked salmom, asparagus tips mushrooms and radicchio in a light creamy sauce. It was very good - especially the sauce. It didnt drown my dish. Only complaint, the dish was more pasta than the other ingredients. It was pricey for what it was. The service was outstanding and the resaurant was in a great location for the theatre I was going too. Would return to this restaurant.

This is our go-to Italian spot when in the area. They are always cordial and efficient - no long waits for various courses to come out. They are totally used to pre-theatre rush and handle it all so well. The food is YUM! *Note: although they have outdoor dining available, I don't recommend eating near so much traffic.

As always, the food was very good and fresh from start to finish, although the bianca salad's stringy pieces were hard to eat without choking a little. The server kept standing sideways in between our table and the one next to it to take the other party's orders, with his rear end almost in my face and food a few times, but other than that, service was really good. As the restaurant filled up, it got so noisy that we couldn't hold a conversation, but that's typical of NYC restaurants in the theater district. This is a good Italian restaurant to go to about 2 hours pre-theater, and even though the place eventually was packed, no one rushed us through our meal. My adult son loved the place.

We went here before the theatre and we were in a bit of a rush . The hostess seated us promptly and the service was swift and good. We both had the rigatoni bolgnese which was just okay. The sauce was a bit tasteless and the pasta was supposed to be fresh but I could not tell that. It was al dente which was good. All in all I wouldn't return.

Food was good but not great. That's the nicest thing I can say about this restaurant. Arrived at 7:00 for our reservation. Place was less than half full. A nice table inside but opening to the patio was empty but hostess wouldn't let us have it because it was set for 4. Instead we were seated at a line up of tables against the wall that were so close together it was like sharing a table with the people on both sides of us. It was 10 minutes before a waiter came to take our drink order. Then another 10 minutes to actually get the drinks. Did I mention the place was less than half full? Had to keep flagging a waiter down when we wanted something. Went to Azalea the next night and had fabulous food & service. Go there instead of here.

My family and I had dinner on 6/16 and had a wonderful night. All of our dishes (piccatta, chk parm, and bolognese pasta) were fresh and perfect. Saw other dishes in the restaurant that looked fantastic as well. Restaurant is on the corner and open on two sides which we really enjoyed because the weather was perfect. Would definitely recommend to pre-theatre diners or anyone looking for great food at a reasonable price. We will be back on our next trip!

Been here many times and am never disappointed. The food is always good and the service excellent. I think it the best spot for pre-dinner dining as a bit away from the crowds but not too far to walk to the theatre. Our food was served promptly but when we indicated that we were happy to sit for awhile, we were left undisturbed to savor the rest of our wine and not rushed out the door. Many good choices of pasta and a well-priced "prixe fixe" as well.

I was on recent trip to NYC and wanted to find a nice Italian restaurant that was fairly close to my hotel but not in the "thick" of it all and came across this place on this site. I love Pietrasanta, have been going there for at least 15 years and visit at least once during my trips to NYC. The pasta is fresh and very good. I have also tried the Saltimboca in the past and liked it as well. They have one of my favorite "budget" sparkling wines - Marquis de la Tour bottle or glass. They are always quick and you can make your theater plans. Casual dress and very "cozy" place. If you reserve try to get the table by a window.
