Diner Reviews
  • "Great location steps away from Back Bay and Beacon Hill. Feels absolutely like a genuine French bistro. The food was excellent. This would be a five had the waiter been more attentive."

  • "Amazing service and amazing food. The duck is delicious, and none of the dishes are too heavy/creamy. The servers are so helpful!"

  • "Boeuf bourguignon was delicious. Creme brûlée excellent. Sat at the little round table by the window which was a bit busy due to proximity to the front door. Waiter "Kennedy" was great. Would definitely recommend."

  • "Visited as part of restaurant week. Great food, great service. Beef Burgundy was the best; I had the mushroom risotto, which I place second only by an infinitesimally small margin. A little noisy, but there was a large party present. Waitstaff discerned who spoke French and who didn't, and spoke either French or English as needed. English speakers still got a few French pronouns mixed in, but that is not to say their English was hard to understand; quite the opposite, in fact. Highly recommend."

  • "We went for Restaurant Week. What a great deal for $28, and I thank the owner and chef for that. The apps, entrees, and desserts were delicious. Our server was super. She helped us with our menu decisions, was gracious and fun, and overall made the dining experience memorable, so much so that we are planning our future dinners with friends here. Thank you for a great night! We will be back. Yum!"

  • "The food was very average and service slightly below average If you live close by it is worth a visit otherwise not"

  • "Restaurant is cute and staff is warm, but the food left something to be desired. In our party of four, three ordered from the Dine Out Boston special menu. Soup was overpeppered, fish was bland and the creme brulee was cold. On the bright side, the salad with the goat cheese in puff pastry was excellent and the mussels were also good. Sorry, I really wanted to like it."

  • "Arrived here around 6:30 and it the restaurant was extremely quiet for a Friday. That changed pretty quickly and nice, eclectic dinner crowd was on-hand. It was quiet when we got there and my dinner guest had some questions of the server. The server acted with a fair amount of impatience despite the relative calm and made me quite uncomfortable on behalf of my guest. It was as if we bothered her with our questions and that's just a poor way to start a dining experience. The start of the service was also a bit tarnished by the slow speed. All was ok as the dinner did progress nicely once our drinks came. From there, the pace was good, the food very good, and the service improved. All in all, I would go again and would recommend."

  • "It is a nice place, not too fancy or too simple, it really looks like a French bistrot (except for the frames of Pierrot on the walls ;) ) The food is good, not excellent but price is ok."

  • "This is a wonderful gem in the city of Boston. It reminds me of one of the many small, mom & pop restaurants on 2nd ave in NYC - something that lacks here in Boston since we have mainly chains, local conglomerates, and expensive. This place is reasonable and the food is excellent. The risotto of the day is a must try and so is the souffle. the bread is outstanding. Service was very good and they have a lot of beverage choices."

  • "I have enjoyed many bistros in France and this small bistro offers authentic food with friendly, enthusiastic service. All courses were top-notch and our server's recommendations were spot on! While our server was exceptional, she had too many tables and could have used some help. Overall, this spot is definitely worth a visit."

  • "Me and my fiancé enjoyed a great dinner here for Valentine's Day. She had the asparagus soup with ginger cream (amazing!), goat cheese salad, beef medallions, and chocolate mousse. I had the pate triology, warm brussel sprout salad (surprisingly tart, great flavor combinations), shrimp/smoked salmon/artichoke risotto, and chocolate cake with creme brûlée ice cream. The food was fantastic, top notch. The service could have been better - I sensed the waitresses were running around everywhere. Long waits between courses (25-40 minutes) and at one point, our waitress asked us three times if we wanted more bread - yes we do! But all in all, a great night and well worth the $65/person fixed price. Will go back again to try the regular menu!"

  • "I took my sweetheart and his sister's family there for the first time this weekend and had a very nice time. We love French bistro food. I lived in France many years ago but we always go back for food visits. This place is unpretentious, cozy, lively, with friendly service and in typical French fashion, the wait staff is attentive but not lingering. The food was simple and good. It's nice to find places with less expensive wine options on the menu however, it is a little annoying that most of the wine is from Trader Joes and although it's good, we know they are marking up just about every bottle x3. None-the-less, we'd go back."

  • "Very good overall. I do not understand why if you have tables available (were not occupied for the rest of the evening) we were sandwiched in table for two, very cramped. Our space was taken from tables on both sides for their coasts and bags and it was up to us to politely ask "our neighbors" to remove their belongings so that we could sit down. Mind you, we have asked for a nice table for a birthday dinner."

  • "I just discovered this gem a few months ago and now return often. It is always a wonderful true french "bistro" experience. This time my dinner was not quite as unique as the other times but still very good. Will return."

  • "We were looking for a place to go before an event at the Garden. This was a great pick. It was quiet early on Saturday night so we were able to enjoy our meal while not feeling rushed to get to the event. The food was typical French bistro food -- very satisfying and tasty. I recommend the escargot and a special appetizer -- the pate duo (which would have been enough appetizer for two!)."

  • "I thought this was a great local place to go for dinner. The menu was interesting, the food was really good and the service was fine. The duck was especially good. My daughter had the beef medallions and my husband had the cassoulet. We were all very happy with our meals. We will be back!"

  • "I think this place is always on top of its game. The food is consistanlty wonderful and the atmosphere is cozy but also vibrant. The staff is ever friendly and helpful. It's one of my favorite smaller restaurants."

  • "We were there for New Year's Eve, which had a special menu, all of which we tried were quite good, but the "Beef Filet Mignon, Ratatouille and Red Wine Reduction" was out of this world. It was the most luscious filet mignon we have ever had. I have no idea if the regular "Steak, Frites" compares, but someone in that kitchen is a genius with cooking steak. Special call outs for the smoked duck breast salad and the "home made" lobster bisque (which is on the regular menu), too. The service was cheerful, and despite the crush of the NYE crowd, the staff remained relaxed and attentive. The noise level never became oppressive, despite the full house; the acoustics of the space are good. It was a bit close, being so full, but bad at all."

  • "We were a party of five on a busy Christmas Eve. We had an early seating and the restaurant filled up after we arrived. The waitress was uncertain as to the make up of two appetizers and a coworker stepped in and provided the information. One in our party commented that the soup of the day had too much pepper. The other first courses were good to excellent. The wrong salad was brought to one in the party. All entrees were excellent. We had duck breast, scallops and beef. Our disappointment was with the dessert. One dessert was brought out much later than the others, and the two that had the creme brulai noted that the custard was cold. Overall the experience was excellent and Christmas Eve is a tough first judge of a restaurant."

  • "I come to to Pierrot Bistrot Francais pretty often with my husband and my son and we always have great experience. So this time, I took my work collegues out for Holiday luncheon. The place is rather small, but they were able to accommodate all of us (13 people) without any problem. Food is rather simple and hommy: french dishes that are everybody favorites like Boeuf Bourguignon, Steak Tartare, mushroom Risotto, etc. Just what you crave when it's freezing cold outside. Everything was delicious. Atmosphere very warm and cozy. French background music was very nice addition to the luncheon and not overpowering so we could have conversations. My colleagues absolutely loved this place. I would highly recommend this place for holiday gatherings."

  • "This was a last minute find for my husband and I. We actually just came back from France and I lived there for over a year. This was very good classic bistro food. We had the steak frites, salad and escargot. Steak frites were very good...I had the bernaise sauce and he had the peppercorn. The escargot was fantastic! The only so, so portion of the meal was dessert. I had the pear belle Helene, which typically is warm and this was cold and not as great as the rest of the meal...wasn't bad, but not great."

  • "This is an authentic replica of a French bistro. Not fancy but wonderful in everything that a bistro is supposed to be. Wine was good, food was perfect, wervice just right and the French ambiance wonderful. Will definitely go back."

  • "We enjoyed our experience at Pierrot very much. The food was tasty: the salmon appetizer, lobster bisque, cassoulet and duck breast in blueberry sauce were all delicious. The wine selections were very good and moderately priced. The grand marnier souffle for dessert was a treat. The service was friendly and unobtrusive. In all, we had a leisurely 2.5 hour meal in a room with a warm vibe that was quiet enough to have a conversation without raising our voices."

  • "We dined here with a group of 6 and everyone felt as if they were in Paris. French onion soup was hot and cheesy and so delicious. Beef Borgagnon was fabulous and scallops light and buttery. Rice pudding, crime brûlée and cappuccino topped it off. A cozy place, great service and they let us close the place down. Our guests loved it and we will be back!"

  • "We decided to try this place as it is in our neighborhood. Crunchy French bread and sweet butter was served along with our wine. We both ordered escargot which was rather salty. Next we ordered Cassoulet and Beef Bourgignon. The Bourgignon was excellent, in a wonderful wine sauce. The Cassoulet was very salty. Maybe the chef can tone it down a bit. We have plans to return this weekend with a group of 6. I will write another review after that visit. Overall, it's a nice cozy place in the neighborhood that you wouldn't expect, and we think it has possibilities and will be a great place to visit again and again when we want a quiet night and delicious meal."

  • "Although the food was good, it was inconsistent. Lamb was veiny and chewy, duck was to die for. The potatoes and veggies were amazing. Service fluctuated from sarcastic to friendly, depending on the time of the night. I will definitely try it again, maybe it was an off night."

  • "The food was good but not exceptional. Portion sizes were adequate. Restaurant was quiet because it wa a weekday dinner. Service was good. Menu selection was diverse. The atmosphere and vibe was a very quaint french bistro. Room lighting could have been managed better."
