I had to send it back twice and the waiter was very gracious about it and removed it from the bill. The menu and the wine list can certainly support that. The main room as we walked through is stunning. Unfortunately, we got seated in a small room at the back of the restaurant which lack the grandiose atmosphere of the main room. She hadn't experienced Pierpont's before, but wanted seafood and "something special". The hostess and server went out of their way to congratulate her and make her feel special. She even tried the tasting menu and was so excited to experience what she called "the perfect bite". The entire dinner was delicious and the service was appropriately attentive, giving us private time to talk but being available and checking in without interrupting. We love this place for special occasions, but I have also dined here for a business lunch and it was also good. After that, I'm not sure whether the bleach smell dissipated or I just became used to it. I was delighted that they honored my request for a private room. We got a small room in the basement. It was beautiful and elegant, and quiet! The wine refrigerators are on the wall. Everything we ordered was perfectly cooked, including four steaks. The hot stuff was hot, the cold stuff cold...loved it. Emanuel, our server gave us impeccable service, and made it a very special evening for everyone. He was there when we needed him, and not when we didn't...my definition of perfect service. He also told us a little about the history of the room. Just a good meal, good service and a place where the other diners are respectful of each other. We happened to be seated in a room that had a table full of Lawyers. Oh well, two out of three isn't bad. They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks and you can't teach a Lawyer good manners. The steak knives we were given really weren't needed. We could actually cut them with our forks and the service.......our server seemed to have the uncanny ability to show up right when we needed something WITH that item in hand then would promptly disappear until needed again. As if that wasn't pleasent enough, she actually would wait if we were speaking to each other rather than rudely interrupting. Being born and raised in Maryland, I am very picky when it comes to crabcakes, and I was not impressed. It was thin, full of filler, and drowned in a sauce. The calamari, on the other hand was excellent. It was not chewy or rubbery, as is the case with most. I decided to take my wife there for Mother's Day. She and I enjoyed it very much and would certainly go again. Go with the old saying "you get what you pay for", the prices are steep, but the quality you get makes it worth it.
