The restaurant's claim to fame is the view (which is spectacular), but the service and general layout and design of the place made the atmosphere as well. We love the food and the service. The lobster bisque was especially delicious. We have both had the lobster bisque at Tavern on the Green in NYC several years back, and your recipe topped theirs by far. It was literally the best soup we have ever eaten. So our compliments to the chef!!!
The only complaints I would make is that it was much too loud and many people were dressed informally. This took away from the ambience of the restaurant. The view, the food, the service were all amazing. Even the brunch desserts were fantastic. Go early, it gets more crowded after 11am. Definitely going back for another special occasion. My husband and I come here for every birthday and anniversary. We'd come more often, but we travel an hour to get there! Always worth the trip. Before they redecorated the dining room, the best seats were by the window. Since they've opened up the dining room more, there isn't a bad seat in the house. Clemet the wine steward always takes good care of us, and our favorite server is Amos. Food was excellent and our waiter was knowledgeable & attentive but not obnoxious. My husband's surf and turf was excellent. I tried the fish special (golden snapper) at the suggestion of our waiter. It did not disappoint! Dessert was the sampler tray which we shared; it was very tasty and just enough not to feel too full.
We'll definitely be back for another occasion. Pier W is not inexpensive but the food, service and view justify the night! The hostess staff, knowing full well this was our 36th anniversary and thus a romantic evening for my wife and i, sat us at a table next to a party of 9, 8 of which were guys. Although well behaved, they were virtually eating with us as the tables were very close to each other. I didn't realize this until they arrived so perhaps if I had said something we could have been moved but you would think in light of the occasion we were celebrating, we would have been given a more private, more romantic table. The selection encompassed both an extravagant breakfast, as well as a lunch with outstanding selections. We split, two of us ate breakfast, and one of us ate a hearty lunch. Everything we tried was delicious. The only caution I'd give is to get a reservation earlier than the 1PM we chose. Most of the selections were still bountiful, but some of the selections were running low (notably the mussels). As our reservation time approached the hostess kept us aprised of the approximate wait time. Knowing that we were waiting for a window table we were seated with a view of the city across the lake. Our waitress was pleasant and service was timely but not rushed. I ordered the salmon on a cedar plank. It was cold on the plank side,warm not hot on the plate side. Upon mention to the waitress she sent the manager who quickly took my plate and within no time I had a new plate with a hot and delicious piece of salmon. I cannot think of another Cleveland restaurant that has the quality of seafood, the view, the service, and the ambience to compare. It was the perfect place to share a birthday dinner. My wife's strict dietary needs were addressed perfectly and graciously, without compromising the quality of her meal or dining experience. Many of the wait-staff seemed quite young, but they were professional in every way. Kevin was outstanding and efficient. They are all foodies including one person who is an Executive Chef. We were lucky to get a table right next to the windows (they cant gaurentee a window table, but if you get there early you can usually get one and its worth it). The server (Amos) was supurb, he had a vast knowledge of the menu and the timing of the food was perfect. The evening we went they had a special on some of their wines and it just so happened our favorite wine was on special. The food was delicious, my only wish was that they had some off menu specials...its always nice to have a few specials to hear about. For our entree, we both ordered the scallops with garlic gnocchi and spaghetti squash. My salad in particular had way too much dressing on it. The scallops were tasty, but the rest of the meal looked and tasted as if it had been prepared hours earlier and then warmed up to be served later. Mimosa or glass of champagne included with each adult brunch, though not for the 20-yr-old. Enjoyed the live piano music, but it seemed a bit loud at times, though our table was pretty close to it.
Lots of seafood--hot and cold shrimp, raw oysters on the 1/2 shell, delicious bouilliabaise (spelling?), mussels. Eggs Benedict with a runny yolk--hard to find on a buffet! One type of sushi offered. One small, fresh begignet served, very good; probably could have asked for more.
Restaurant has apparently recently undergone a major facelift. The place was beautiful, with views of downtown.
