A word from Pier W
Pier W, a landmark Cleveland restaurant, has been serving a critically acclaimed seafood and contemporary menu since May 11, 1965. Having recently undergone a $3 million interior renovation, the new Pier W resembles a sophisticated luxury liner cantilevered over Lake Erie offering dramatic views of both the Lake and the downtown Cleveland skyline. We would like to request that shorts, flip flops and baseball caps are not worn to the restaurant.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "1 out of the 4 meals we had was unedible .. trout so salty my husband could not eat it and he never returns food and the potatoes were bland and unedible. The other 3 meals were fine .. my favorite restaurant until our experience on Sunday. Our wattress was terrible. Never asked how our food was and after a glass of water spilled never replaced the napkins used to wipe up the spill. SO DISAPPOINTING!!"

  • "The best all-inclusive brunch in the city. Take your pick of a tasty mimosa or cold glass of champagne to accompany selections from the never-ending brunch bar. Every seat in the house boasts a view of the lakefront. I am a brunch fanatic and this is by far my favorite. Amish chicken, smoked salmon, bacon, eggs, fresh fruit, and on and on...Enjoy!"

  • "This is my first time here and I have to say it was amazing. There isn't a bad thing to say about it."

  • "We dined with a couple from California who was residing in Aurora for a few nights. We live in Vermilion so I chose Pier W as a good middle spot. I was a bit nervous since my experiences in the past were inconsistent. Some great meals, some very poor. Marco was our waiter and he was very accommodating and pleasant. Two in our party ordered salmon and the others ordered walleye. All meals were excellent? thank goodness!"

  • "My wife and I have been to Pier W for a number of special occasions. The food is always very good, as well as the service. And the restaurant has a nice view of the lake and the city of Cleveland. We used Open Table to book our reservation, and mentioned our special occasion. When we arrived Pier W not only had our reservation but were also aware of the special occasion."

  • "We have been going to Pier W for brunches and dinners for over 35 years and have never been disappointed. We were very excited when they remodeled several years ago and are extremely pleased with the "new" look. The food may not be the most "exotic" around, but it is one of the premier seafood restaurants and there are few, if any, restaurants around that can top their ambiance and view. We had mussels and lobster bisque as good as any we have had, and the tuna, which we both had simply prepared, was outstanding in its flavor and freshness and preparation...exactly as we ordered. If we were a little younger, we would definitely take more advantage of the hip and lively bar!"

  • "Been here before, service has always been great staff is friendly and helpful, excellent cuisine drinks etc; , view is phenomenal. Will continue to return this is one of greater Cleveland's finer restaurants."

  • "Food was not as good as in the past and the hostess was rude. Will not be going back anytime soon if ever"

  • "My wife and I booked reservations at Pier W for our anniversary. I had heard from several people that it was absolutely amazing. The food was good, the ambiance was excellent with a live pianist playing a good selection of music, and we got a seat right in front of the window on the lake. Prices weren't as high as I expected; we got an appetizer, 1 alcoholic beverage, entree's and tip and were out the door for $120. Nice place - not 5 star but definitely has class and the best views around. Service was average; our waitress could have been a little more professional and attentive."

  • "On this occasion, July 4th, the experience was all but ruined by a piano player, positioned between the bar and the dining room, who pounded out the "dinner music" so loudly that we could barely converse. I don't understand "fine" restaurants like Pier W that employ a pianist (or any other musician, other than perhaps a soft guitarist - for Spanish food), whose only contribution is to provide an impediment to conversation. If I want to go to a piano bar, I'll go to a piano bar (where the food is likely to be far less costly). Moreover, my bouillabaisse, though rich in seafood, was over-salted to the point that I almost sent it back. But one of my companions' lobster was superb."

  • "Such a great restaurant! 4th of July seeing the Cleveland skyline light up for hours was amazing, the food is fantastic. The blue cod tacos is one of my fave apps to start of with and im not even a big fish eater. the drinks Are very good also. The only complaint is once again the service, the I don't want to be here doing my job attitude. I just think for a great restaurant the service should be on the top of things, not giving me a crazy look like I should be disgusted for what I asked lol not all the servers but. other then that was a great time"

  • "Good, tasty, flavourful sea food dishes. That would be the only restaurant I would go to if I feel like having a seafood."

  • "When I made my reservations I specifically asked for a window seat. When I arrived they gave me a seat up against the wood wall which was still very nice but not the seat we requested. The whole two hours I was there no one took the 2 open tables near the window. That was very disappointing but I didn't want to be rude and ask to change tables. The service was very polite and the food was amazing."

  • "We dine at Pier W frequently. We love the food the view of Lake Erie. We love seafood so this is the spot for us. I love open table because it is so easy to make a reservation. Thanks"

  • "Very nice restaurant for a special occasion with my girl friend. Food is good and the service is nice. A little bit waiting time but I think it is normal for a busy restaurant like this. If you can have a window site, the view is very nice. I like it! Will go there if I can."

  • "The view and ambiance were spectacular; the food not so much. My beef tenderloin tips were overcooked, not very tender, and not enough sauce. My husband had the filet steak, and he too said it was just OK. However, the lobster bisque, was the best!"

  • "The food was fantastic. Food coming out of the kitchen was a bit slow. Celebrated a special occasion and at the end of the meal were advised the bill was taken care of. Assumed it was the restaurant. Found out the next day our daughter had paid. Restaurant didn't tell us it was our daughter who paid the bill. Someone dropped the ball on that one. Otherwise, a very fine dining experience."

  • "Took my wife put for her birthday at pier w. Beautiful view but seating is first come, so plan early or later than the crowd. Service was outstanding and they even topped that off with a cheese cake birthday cake for my wife. I had the stuffed shrimp and wife had the crab legs."

  • "I think the unique location is really what pushed this place over the mediocre bar for me... but that shouldn't really be the case now, should it? I kept thinking to myself that if it weren't for the location, the place wouldn't have really stood out in my mind. For the price of the meal for two, ($100+) I was hoping for a little better service and a table by the window as I had requested. Instead we got stuck in the middle even after making a reservation days in advance."

  • "We had an excellent meal at Pier W. The service was excellent, and essentially all of the tables except the bar had a great view of the lake. The salads were fresh with a very tasty dressing, and the Alaska salmon and lobster papardelle were outstanding. Overall, a very enjoyable experience"

  • "Unfortunatley, our food came out of the kitchen all wrong, but the waiter made it right by not charging us a thing! We will give them another try, as we feel this is good management We enjoyed having a cocktail on the rooftop patio."

  • "Food was very good but felt the side with entree should be larger. The atmosphere was relaxing and romantic wine was affordable. Service was great and on time."

  • "Our server took our white wine and added very little to our friends red wine. An honest mistake. There was no correction for my wine. That's ok. Then she brought fresh red wine for our friend. About the same amount that was there before the mistake. If I were making the correction, I would have given a little extra. Then the busboy took our friend's specialty coffee before she finished. It was pointed out and they replaced it with, again, just about the same amount that was lost. Again, they could have given a little extra."

  • "Have lived on east side of Cleveland for 24 years. We usually dine out near home. Recently took my wife and mother in law here for lunch. I had the impression Pier W was located in a condo building. Great to experience the restaurant which is built next to attractive condo building, hanging on a cliff side overlooking Lake Erie with fantastic view of lake & Cleveland skyline. Had great table and service from friendly professional server. Grilled salmon, potatoes, and green vegetable perfectly prepared were delicious....and reasonably priced. Clam chowder was perfect too. Dessert was good but not as special as the restaurant setting and the main course. Wife had the salad with her walleye entree....loved both. We're going back soon."

  • "Arrived @ 6:30 for 7:30 reservation on Tuesday rainy night. Wait line for bar. Never got into bar. At 7 after happy hour ended, hostess seated us in dining room so we could get drinks. At least on Tues there are discounts on good wines. High prices. Long waits. Not very attentive server but good food and a new experience. On a clear night the city view would be terrific."

  • "We had a wonderful dinner for four and a table by the window! Great view of the Cleveland skyline and a sailboat race! Our dinners included the trout, walleye and big eye tuna. All were pleased. Restaurant was crowded, but service still excellent. Great place for a very special occasion. Would return to try lunch or brunch out on the patio."

  • "Have been twice with three people in our party each time. This seems to be a number to draw a table that is in the way back totally out of the splendid view and right next to the piano. After a drink we didn't mind our location and settled in to a great time with good food. Older crowd and faded era decor. An update would go far to make it a first class pick instead of the it used to be good pick."

  • "Took some "foodie" friends from Dayton, Ohio,to Pier W for a Saturday dinner. The table was perfect. The service was incomparable and friendly, management stopped by twice to be sure everything was to our liking. The food was outstanding (Bouillabaise) all around. We weren't rushed. An ultraglider actually swooped over and waved at everyone!! I could not think of a more wonderful way to show off what we Clevelanders have known for a long time. That Pier W is "still the one"."

  • "Though it's definitely a higher end experience, Pier W has an awesome seafood menu and great, fresh specials. I always enjoy the ambiance and the very attentive staff. I had one of the specials, an Asian glazed sockeye salmon that was well-prepared and plated. The fact that descending to the restaurant is like entering the lair of a supervillain always makes me smile and we happened to be there on a clear day and could watch sailboats on the lake. We're been there for the awesome Sunday brunch as well and it's over-the-top with great choices and spectacular fresh seafood."
