Diner Reviews
  • "I went for my birthday. I seen a photo of the place and quickly made a reservation. The wait staff was amazing, they seem to really care about their quality of work. I ordered Vietnamese Style Wings, yuck! They smell of them as they arrived to the table practically killed my nose. They were extremely saltly. For my entre I ordered Jambalaya, which tasted like tomato sauce, no substance or flavor. The rice was undercooked as well. Well at least my Shirley Temple was amazing!"

  • "I enjoyed my cup of clam chowder although I would have liked to have seen a few more clams. The broth was fantastic, but the chowder seemed more of a soup with few potatoes and even fewer clams. I did not taste the seafood alfredo, but 3 of our group members did not finish their meals and explained the dish was bland. The blackened mahi was terrific, though. I was incredibly disappointed with my stuffed shrimp. The stuffing was supposed to be made with crab, but I certainly did not detect much crab. I had only four or five medium sized shrimp totally overpowered by stuffing served over rice. A special sauce was supposed to complement the dish, but I saw only a little sauce, and it was lost amidst all that mushy stuffing."

  • "We were there in the city to celebrate a wedding anniversary and wanted to find a nice place to eat dinner and enjoy some great food. We found it! On-line reservations was the way to go. Got right in when we arrived and we were accommodated for our our request of being by the window."

  • "The Pier Café has great food with an even better view of the Coronado Bridge and Seaport sights! You won't be sorry to make a reservation here. We will come again if in San Diego!"

  • "I really enjoyed having dinner and watching the sunset. There are a lot of seating by the windows and even a patio that is dog friendly. Will def return with my pup!"

  • "The food was good, nice views from the patio. We went to celebrate a birthday, and we were told we could get any dessert on the menu EXCEPT the chocholat cake. Really, no cake for a birthday. It was a dollar or two more then the other desserts. Seems really silly to me. The only cake option offered was carrot cake, and the birthday girl doesn't like carrot cake. Kind of a let down."

  • "We chose this spot because it overlooked the ocean and the scenery is nice. The food is absolutely AWFUL. No taste no flavor not to mentioned overpriced. They had the worst fish and ships I have ever had. I will NEVER return nor do I recommend this to anyone."

  • "We had lunch the food was really good. We were seated at the corner table right by the window over the water. The food was great and the drinks were good. Enjoyed our time there, will definitely be back the next time we are in San Diego."

  • "Excellent selection of mainstay seafood items with a touch of extra special. They produce a quality and unique meal without being pretentious."

  • "Our group of college friends recently gathered in San Diego for a winter get away. Upon reading other excellent reviews about Pier Cafe we decided to give this restaurant a try. We are certainly happy that we did. Awesome view of the water, great for sunset views and just a great all around atmosphere. The staff was willing and able to answer any of our questions about the menu. They welcomed our large group of 7 and we always felt comfortable sitting around after we finished eating just to continue to laugh and talk. The food was excellent and the drinks were wonderfully delicious. If we ever are in the San Diego area we would definitely come again."

  • "Service is always excellent. Very friendly atmosphere . Even though some tables are a little close you don't feel cramped and find most patrons friendly. Fun place great to dine around sunset for the wonderful view of the bay. Food and drinks are always great. Will definitely keep coming back !"

  • "We have been here several times and the food, the view and the service has been surprising us every time! The level of service seems to have gone up, there seems to be more people in the restaurant and they brought back refried beans! Love this place, will definitely refer to friends!"

  • "Meh. Sub-par food, merely OK service. Not much to write about. Should have eaten at Harbor House or gone up the street to the Fish Market."

  • "I love how Pier Cafe looks from the nearest pier. So I decided to have my birthday dinner with the one I love in this Cafe. Everything was great. We enjoyed the food (we both love sea food). We were sitting at the corner table and the view was outstanding. I was surprised with the price. It was reasonable for the location. Other places in seaport village are more expensive. I highly recommend this place."

  • "My family and I were in San Diego for New Years and wanted a cool place to go and eat some good seafood. We decided to make reservations because being new years eve we thought the restaurant might be busy. The place was dead and we could see why. The menu was nothing special, your typical Red Lobster menu, with fried fried fried or their over priced "chef specials". We ordered drinks and appetizers. Fried calamari and fried pickles. I normally like my pickles and calamari with a little coating but this was tons of coating with a little thin sliced pickles and baby calamari. Dinner was the same, over cooked and fried. Dessert menu had to be requested but once again, nothing special so skipped. Bill came and horrified looks after seeing the $"

  • "Don't waste you're money here unless you like unseasoned microwaved mystery fish and undercooked vegetables. We ate what we could, and ran out as soon as we could get the bill. Wallets were emptied for something a very ambitious 10 year old could do in an afternoon trying to impress his parents."

  • "Food was a bit more pricey than I'd like, but I had no complaints with the food. The best part was the service. Best waitress I've had all year, and its December right now. Would definitely go back. That New England Clam Chowder is pretty good too."

  • "The service was attentive and the food arrived promptly. The cioppino was hearty with a good sauce and rich in seafood. Prices are reasonable."

  • "I was expecting a nicer restaurant and professional wait staff. On the harbor in San Diego in Seaport Village I expected a higher quality of restaurant. Menus were old, many of them had burns on them. The wait staff were very unprofessional and the entire restaurant was more like a diner than a restaurant. Not really impressed. The food was decently priced and tasted fine."

  • "Fish choices are limited for a seafood cafe. I ordered grilled bass which was bland. No spices or accompanying sauces/ marinades.. My wife had fried shrimp, which tasted like frozen shrimp tossed in a deep firer and then onto a plate. Kids ordered calamari and chicken fingers - couldn't tell or taste difference. Even the French fries were soggy and no flavor. Couldn't wait to get check and leave to have dessert somewhere else."

  • "We found that the food at Pier Cafe was only fair in taste and quality, and that the menu at the restaurant was definitely missing entrees from the menu on the website. The service was poor, and our server did not either know the menu well or understand the entrees. We were served a dish supposed to be vegetarian that was not. The server did not check back for refills on water or iced tea, and stayed away until it came time to bring the check. We asked to speak to the manager, but were told that he was off-site. During the course of a week, we ate at all the major restaurants in the Seaport Village area and the Hyatt and Marriott resort hotels, and of all those, this was clearly the worst. I would say to avoid this at all costs."

  • "Pier Cafe is a very well-managed restaurant. The view is the best in San Diego, facing the best view on Coronado Island. The prices are great for the food, service and ambience. Pet friendly on the outside patio, if you want to stop for a few and relax. Friendly and coureous staff. Excellent manager!"

  • "I was really excited to go to this place just because of the view. When my boyfriend and I got there we were let down with the food quality. The food was ok but not for the price we paid for it. It's also a place I wouldn't recommend going if you are looking for a quiet romantic dinner for there were kids screming and crying in the background."

  • "Fish was good, all of our sides were look warm. Portions equal to pricing. For the budget conscience this is a good choice for waterside in San Diego"

  • "Had lunch with a co-worker and everything was perfect. Great table, in a great location with floor to ceiling glass and views in multiple directions. Service was flawless and food just outstanding. I had the Fish Taco's which I love at Anthony's, but the Fish Taco's at the Pier Cafe are much better. (Sorry Anthony's) Large thick pieces of flaky fish - the Tacos were so large I had to use a fork. The two Taco's were so filling I didn't touch the Salad and saved it for later. My Co-worker was so impressed he is bringing his wife this weekend for dinner. Really great job."
